Synergy has ended. The show has gone off the air, though the crowd that remains still hope for attention from Numinous Fate and the recovering Sebastian Everett-Bryce. It was only moments ago that Donovan Hastings shockingly attacked Seb moments after their cooperative victory, striking the reigning Chaos Champion with his own title belt and callously draping the title over his fallen body.
Of course, it is not the attack itself that anyone finds shocking. Hastings has a well-documented history of not playing well with others. Despite his numerous Cooperative Championship reigns, he has double-crossed or outright abandoned many an Entertainment Professional over the years. Rather, this may well be the first time that Hastings has directed any sort of competitive attention to the champion of the chaos division. His narrow focus on the World Championship has driven the majority of his behavior over the years. In this regard, this attack was most unexpected, and perhaps the reason why Seb was unprepared. Still, many questions remain.
Which makes it fortunate that as The Lord of Pain passes through the curtain into the backstage area, that Roxy Malone is waiting for his attention.
Malone: Lord Hastings! Can we get a quick word?
Donovan smirks as he approaches her.
Hastings: Your Lord knew you’d be here awaiting his arrival. I have to admit, Roxy, if you’re about to ask about the “shocking” actions that I just took, I’d have to characterize my response as a bit disappointed. After all, this has been a long time coming.
Malone: You might say that, but in the entire history of UGWC, you’ve never shown any interest in the Chaos Championship before.
Hastings: And what makes you think that my perspective in that regard has changed?
Malone: Well, you did just brutally assault the Chaos Champion.
Hastings: I did no such thing. I didn’t attack the Chaos Champion. I attacked Sebastian Everett-Bryce.
Malone: ...who is the Chaos Champion.
Hastings: You tell me, you seem to always have all the answers.
Malone: What?
Hastings: Second base.
Malone: What are you talking about?
Hastings: What are YOU talking about?
Malone: I don’t know.
Hastings: Third base.
Malone: What?
Hastings: Second base.
Malone: I don’t know what’s happening right now.
Hastings: You said Who is the Chaos Champion.
Malone: Sebastian Everett-Bryce.
Hastings: Who.
Malone: Sebastian Everett-Bryce.
Hastings: Who.
Malone: Sebastian Everett-Bryce.
Hastings: Rabbit season!
Malone: Um?
Hastings: Oh, I’m sorry, I thought we were having an argument.
Malone: About what?
Hastings: The name of the Chaos Champion, obviously.
Malone: Sebastian Everett-Bryce.
Hastings: WHO!!!
Malone: I’m so confused right now.
Hastings: And that’s because you’re entirely missing the point, Roxy. Just like I imagine so many other simple-minded people are. I don’t care about the Chaos Champion or the Chaos Championship. I care about Sebastian Everett-Bryce, I care about the person whom I was meant to defeat at Horizons over a year ago and who has dedicated his time and effort ever since to avoiding the dark fate that awaited him at my hands.
Malone: You’re talking about the main event of Horizons XV?
Hastings: See, you’re getting there. That was the night that my destiny was to vanquish the Sophisticated Suplex Machine and complete my opus, but Sebastian couldn’t hold up his end and make it to face me, and I posit that was because he knew that I would finish him. He’s spent much of the last year hiding in the chaos division, using it as a shield against me because he knew I wouldn’t taint myself with a setting that is beneath me, but I’ve waited long enough. I will wade into the murky waters to meet my prey. If the Chelsea Crippler is going to hide in the Chaos division, then the Lord of Pain will venture into it to find him.
As Donovan is talking, Roxy is handed a note from off camera.
Malone: I’ve just been given a note that you’ll appear in chaos division action next week with a match against the Dark Destroyer.
Hastings: Well I’ve never been one to take things slowly. Seb thinks he is safe from me within the confines of his division. I intend to jump directly in. The opponent is irrelevant. I’d have faced the Drunken Buzzsaw or Le Bord de Dieu if they were available, tear apart a past stalwart of the division with my bare hands, or perhaps more appropriately, with whatever weapon is available. It doesn’t matter to the Lord of Pain. Instead, I suppose I’ll have to make do with whatever, whoever, is available. This is a showcase, Roxy. This is a demonstration of what is lying in wait for Sebastian Everett-Bryce. This is a final warning of what is coming for him. He thought he was safe from me, but he’s about to be reminded that our destiny is inevitable.
Donovan smirks again before walking away.
