Well the title says it all, we have a favorite movies thread, so I thought this might be a natural progression. If you've seen a movie recently, old or new, and you want to rant about it, or even praise it, this would be a good place to do so.
I will be telling you all what I personally thought of 'The Crazies' and 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' sometime tomorrow, but hell feel free to talk about them if you feel the need to before tomorrow.
Might be a good way for us all to get to know a little more about what each other enjoy...

Haven’t been to the movies in ages… have wanted to see A-Team just for lolz, but not enough to actually organise shit and go see it. I think the last film I saw was Iron Man 2. Was definitely better than first IMO, since it wasn’t so vomit-inducingly pro-America. But it was still pretty much diarrhoea of the dick. It basically turned into a live action cartoon show as soon as Sam Jackson showed up. I never thought the day would come where Sam Jackson would be an unwanted presence for me, but Iron Man 2 accomplished that mighty feat. Well-fucking-done. Downey Jr. is still da Man Champ, though.

Took my sister to go and see "The Last Airbender" it was pretty good for a Shaminlyn(or however his name is spelled). And by good I mean that I was confused out of my mind for the first half of the movie, probably because I hadn't followed the show like my sisters had, but it still managed to keep my attention for the hour and forty-five minutes. Going to go see Predators this weekend, and I pray to God that it doesn't bomb as I love both the Predator and Aliens films. But then again, can it really be worse then AVP1?

The GF and I saw the A-Team last week, we found it to be enjoyable so long as you don't try to think about it...at all.
I compare the Iron Man movies to Raiders of the Lost Ark/Last Crusade (I pretend ToD doesn't exist...apparently so does Spielberg). First is a better movie, latter is more fun.

So as promised, my thoughts on 'The Crazies' and 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo'.
I'll start with The Crazies which is a remake of a George A. Romero film about a town that is over run by an infection that turns it's inhabitants into psychopathic killers. Now obviously, with a plot like that I wasn't expecting too much, a technique that I have found has helped me enjoy many movies that would otherwise despise. Unfortunately even my low expectations were not met.
The storyline was a clumsily written journey, with the obvious goal of killing as many people as possible, the problem with that being there was not even one memorable scene in the entire movie for me.
Plus, although I know in every 'horror' movie suspense is created by splitting up the lead characters, but when the lead male character sneaks past the army to successfully rescue his wife whom 'he cannot live without', he spends the rest of the film finding reasons to leave her on her own, in a town full of 'crazies'.
The entire film is characterised by this kind of lack of logic, from the plans of the 'heroes' to the containment tactics of the army, which resemble that of a small childs plans. of the, the entire film feels fabricated beyond the scale of most far fetched horrors. Don't waste you time.
The second film I've seen recently is a Swedish one called 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' also known as 'Men who hate Women', which is an adaptation of an international best selling series of books. It's the tale of a young female computer hacker and a middle aged journalist, who are thrown together searching for the truth behind the disappearance of a girl 40 years previously.
This is quite simply a great film, and shows what European Cinema can accomplish, and blows away the majority of thrillers coming out of Hollywood recently. There are scenes inside that pack a real emotional punch, and some graphic and uncomfortable moments. But unlike much cinema, the graphic feeling of being violated is not just used as a gimmick, it is integral to the storyline and the development of the characters.
The first hour or so is a little slow, and harrowing in places, but by the end I could not wait to see the next instalment of the trilogy, and read the books. The entire feel of the film is phenomenal, and is undoubtedly one of the best thrillers of the year.

right, seeing as I'm the only Teen in this place (I think haha) I can say that I saw this film in 3D and not seem like a wierdo. Toy Story 3. Won't give away any of the storyline incase someone here is going to see it, however, I will say that unlike most of these Disney/Pixar animated films, this trilogy equalling film did not suck at all (unlike Shrek the third....only decent thing about that film was that it had the Ramones in the soundtrack). Anyone who liked the first two ('90s kid.....I grew up with 'em) will enjoy this film as it draws a curtain over the Toy Story film bracket. the only thing that I will definately reveal is that Andy ends up going to University, and "donates" the toys (at first) which leads to one of them attempting to find Andy again and return.
if you are thinking of seeing this film, do it, you won't regrett it.

Saw Predators today and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The acting was pretty good(my fav character out of the bunch was the Russian), story also worked out both for those familiar with the franchise and those seeing a Predator movie for the first time, action sequences were great, and the soundtrack really helped out too. So in other words, a perfect reboot for the franchise.

No need to feel guilty over Toy Story, JK. I grew up with those flicks too… they were awesome lol. Seeing it in 3D on the other hand… hang your head in shame for being a skank. :P
Aighte. Saw Predators the other day. My review:
Anyone who has seen a preview and has seen any other Predator film will likely be able to work out the storyline in its entirety. Yes, it’s a bunch of guys being hunted with no rhyme or reason. So why the writers wasted 20 minutes setting up the ‘story’ (lol) is a fuckin' mystery to me. The film drops hints that there are bigger things at play, but NONE of them are explored in any way at all. Shit just sort of happens and we have to go along with it. Same with the characters. Most of them seem interesting enough, but we don’t learn much about any of them at all. They’re pretty much defined solely by the weapons they’re carrying and a couple of laughably thrown together what I will loosely (and I’m talking Travis’ momma’s rectum amounts of loose) describe as ‘moral dilemmas’. Even worse are the bad clichés they use… they have the token Black guy, token woman, token Asian, token geeky dude, token leader with a past (but good luck finding out what it is), token prisoner, token polite, but dangerous, foreigner… damn, it’s ass. So it’s basically just a story of how these random people are going to survive. That would be fine, but…
All the characters are fuckin’ retarded. Full on, drunken, dribbling teenagers being hunted by Jason amounts of mongoloid. One of them talks about a mission report where some guy (Arnie) hid his heat signature from the beast by wiping mud on himself. The very next scene shows the group surrounded by mud in the jungle, but with NONE of the mud on them AT ALL. So what was even the point of brining it up? Why even bother associating this film with one that was actually good? And that is but one example in a long line of nonsensical laziness on the part of the writers. Some monsters can survive a barrage of minigun bullet, but not a knife, supposed survival experts implement the effective defensive tool of ‘standing there doing shit all while a predator comes to kill them’ and the ending contradicts essentially everything we have learned up until that point and is basically just a big diarrhoea stain of an excuse to make ‘Predators 2: You Thought You Didn’t Care Last Time’. This stupidity makes it impossible to suspend disbelief so even as a ‘big, dumb action flick’ this thing fails utterly. Speaking of…
There are points where the movie actually attempts to deliver some sort of philosophical message about violence and the world that human beings have defined. But it lacks even the basic elements of intelligence to pull this off – it’s just a bunch of random, half thought out lines of dribble from equally as random people. I actually ended up laughing during these moments. Imagine Killswitch writing poetry and that's basically what you have here. And the ending takes The Dark Knight approach and completely flip-flops on the message it is trying to deliver, sending two completely opposing ideas in two subsequent scenes. Fail.
But probably my biggest problem with this film is that we’ve seen it before! It’s way too similar to the original Predator, except it’s inferior in every way. Similar environment, similar storyline and there’s a dude with a minigun who isn’t remotely as entertaining as Jesse Ventura.
On the plus side? Not fuckin’ much. The action is, generally speaking, decent (but again, not even close to that of the original Predator). You can clearly see what’s going on, so that alone makes it infinitely better than AVP2. Though there aren’t really any extended combat/fight scenes and we (all the people I saw it with) had trouble telling the difference between the different predators most of the time.
The acting is pretty tight. Most of the characters were able to at least interest me. And the fact I didn’t really care about any of them was pretty much entirely the fault of shitty writing - the actors played their parts well.
End of the day… I was able to sit through it and not kill myself, but I have no inclination of ever watching it again and you won’t be missing much by avoiding this. But you could certainly do much worse.

I doubt he's managed to stay alive this long. Especially if he lives near a busy road or body of water.
Oh and are we allowed to discuss TV shows in this thread too? 'Coz I just saw the first ep of Flashpoint. Was crazy good. Will post a review once I've watched more, assuming anyone here cares haha.
