Miwa: "HIKARI!!!!!"
Hikari sat on a bench, enjoying the cool breeze blowing between the buildings of the Shrine. It was a rare moment that she wasn't hustling here or there, tending a fire, bringing water. She was used to hearing her name called, yelled out, even in the dead of night. Everyone seemed to trust that she knew what to do and how to do it. She had dedicated her short life thus far to doing just that. Hearing Miwa screaming, and sounding in a panic, gave her chills. She sprung to her feat and ran for the place she had last seen Miwa and the visitor, Risa. She stopped in the doorway, her breath coming in short pants. There before her was what her heart had feared. The visitor, Risa, was face down on the floor, a few mere inches from the fire. Kneeling next to her was a wide eyed Miwa.
Miwa: "Get Kazue."
Miwa's voice was calmer. Her fingers resting on her friend's neck. Apparently finding a pulse, Hikari prayed. Spinning about as she moved, Hikari set off as fast as she could. She nearly plowed over two others, sweeping leaves from the rock path she ran, bounding as fast as her legs would carry her. Kazue was enjoying a bowl of rice with vegetables as Hikari pelted in out of breath. The bowl in Kazue's hands went to the table quickly but carefully. Kazue needed not a word, but got to her feet and the two ran...

Miwa: "Whatever vision she was having, it was extremely powerful for her. I could even feel the intensity. I've never felt anything quite like it."
Miwa and Kazue stood in the hallway of one of the other buildings, guest rooms. Behind Miwa, in the room, Risa lay, her entire body covered in sweat. Hikari covered her body with a sheet, leaving from the collarbone up uncovered.
Kazue: "It was something rather powerful indeed. The sudden onset of a fever isn't too unusual from strong visions, but to this degree? I've never seen it."
A voice spoke to them, old, yet strong.
Megumi: "I have."
The two women turned, embarrassed that the matriarch had come upon them unnoticed. They blushed and bowed to her. She waved her hand.
Megumi: "Kazue. Go to my room, retrieve my bottles. Miwa, take the bucket from Hikari and get more cold water."
The women moved. As they departed on their own tasks, Megumi walked in. Hikari bowed, a little scared. Megumi's hand on her shoulder didn't calm her as much as the elder had hoped.
Megumi: "Move to the other side, please. Keep the cloth on her forehead. Remember everything you see and hear, but do not remember it."
The instruction may have sounded odd, but Hikari bowed with a quick acknowledgement and moved to the other side of the low bed. Megumi settled in next to it, kneeling. She touched Risa's shoulder and drew her hand back quickly from the intensity of what she felt.
Megumi: "Her spirit, her heart and her body are all at war with one another. She saw something, encountered something, that has torn her asunder."
Hikari nods, her eyes wide. She had rarely seen the elder outside of the audiences, so this was a whole new experience for her.
Megumi: "I will need to ask something difficult of you, Hikari. I will need you to stay with her until this breaks. It will either do so when she awakens or when she passes from this life."
Hikari bows.
Megumi: "Good."
She looked at Risa, a softening in those fire filled eyes.
Megumi: "This fever won't leave her easily. I will do all that I can. She cannot be allowed to die without all that we can do."
Hikari looked up at her. Megumi sees the unspoken question. She nods to Hikari.
Megami: "Let us pray. I will not give up my Great-Granddaughter without doing all I can for her."
Hikari blinked, bowed her head and began to pray. Megumi joined her. Outside another half dozen or so attendants, dressed like Hikari, gathered around a small, portable fire which had been set up. They, too, began to pray as Kazue returned with a brown leather bag from one direction and Miwa from another, carrying the old wooden bucket. They dashed into the building and a strange stillness overtook the Shrine...
