That's because you knew I was yet to get into this brother... That being said, I'm the youngest of three brothers and comicbooks, 80's hair metal, and pro wrestling were the blue prints of my early life. The classic good verses evil, not like today where you didn't know who was who. Some of my earlier memories including my brother beating the crap out of one another in the backyard... And as things go my wife has seen the pictures in joined in on the violence knocking my middle brother out cold with a wooden train set to the face... I was 2 and a half. My parents nearly banned wrestling for us because I screamed for my other brother to make the count. This did not set well with my mother.
1. Jake "The Snake" Roberts, the man as Ad said was a god on the mic, and his promos were textbook and legendary. His in ring ability was top notch, unparalleled. I think there was so much to be said for beig the guy who built "the next big thing" in wrestling, if you go back and watch older shows... Everyone who feuded with Jake, went on right after to become the next champion, because once he made you look the part... You were ready. On that same note, it's a shame that he never got to be the champion that he sent so many others to become.
2. Raven... There lives a man, in this world who knows pro wrestling. He doesn't sell it like Vince, he didn't have the pockets like Eric... He just knows wrestling. That mans name, is Paul Heyman. For Heyman he saw something in Raven that no one else did, that oh so special something, and he gave Raven that chance, that one chance to break away from what wCw, and the Wwf had chosen. And Raven would go from there to rewrite wrestling as it was meant to be. The fueds, the promos, the matches, the world would take notice... And everything you know about "attitude" about anything "extreme". It all began here... And it makes sense when you look and realize who he learned from. "So it is written, and so it shall come to pass. Quote the Raven, Nevermore."
3. EC F'n W. The land of extreme. The land of misfit toys. There were those gifted of the highest caliber of wrestling ability, but they were denied by the big leagues because they lacked the look. There was those who were shuffled off because of a gimmick that no longer worked. They were all given their pink slips. They were the unknown, and because of one sick mother fucking genius... They gave the big leagues hell for years. Enough so that they were raped of storylines, talent, and air time because they made people realize what they were capable of. Thank you Paul, thank you.
4. The nWo... I loved em. You loved them, perhaps you just don't want to admit it, but you did. I recall a certain Bash @ the Beach, in 96... My best friend (a-Dogg) decked all out in every stitch of Hulkamania gear available. And to watch his jaw drop, with Hogans leg... I cried tears of laughter. Heartbroken was the word, and that night I became a Hollywood-ite. Almost 20 years of being the face of all faces, and he said "fuck you, brother".
5. The short but ever so sweet at least for me, formation of "The Midnight Sons". Voodoo Strange (myself), El Gallo Negro, and Gangrel (yes that Gangrel). Thunder Pro Wrestling in Jacksonville Fld. This was the highlight of my short career. Managed Luna Vachonn, at that time married to Gangrel. Short in that we lost Gangrel who was then resigned to Wwe, and Thunder was shut down soon after when the owners nephew (New Jack) shanked a guy in the ring, I was at that show, Wayne would have been too if he hadnt been drunk and gave me the right number to call.
6. The Road Warriors. Just plain and simple, the greatest tag team ever. All other tag teams were based off of this formula and formation.
7. Halloween Havoc, my favorite Holiday, my favorite PpV, that simple.
8. Mick Foley's "forgive me uncle Eric" run in ecw. Brilliant , there are no other words to describe this. I loved it then, but as I grew out of being a mark, and learned the business I saw this storyline for what it truley was, and that was brilliant.
9. Rowdy Roddy Piper. I've had dinner with the man, and he is everything you see on tv. There is no character, that is him. I idolized the man before that, and he did not disappoint.
10. Percy Pringle, Paul Bearer, so many people don't know who he really was and all that he contributed to the industry. You knew him as the sidekick to The Undertaker. I knew him as the man that came up with te idea for the undertaker. The man who guided my career helped me see where I needed to be to get to that next step in pro wrestling. Sadly I never used all his advice a d my career came to an end. But I still have the urn that he and my manager gave me.
