To William Everknight,
My name is Andrew but my friends call me Andy, I'm a fourteen year old boy from Florida and I'm your number one fan.
I've been following you since you first appeared for PWL back in 2006. I remember the first time I saw you, Bloodmonger was killing you in the ring and Mom wouldn't let me watch because there was 'too much blood'. Then my friend Kyle called me after the show and told me you'd won. I was hooked right there and then.
I watched every match I could find online and I bought every DVD. Then eventually I convinced my mom to take me to a show in the area and I finally got to see you in a person! That was the night you defeated Harry Cunningham for the PWL World Championship. I was so happy when you won and even happier when you spoke to me and signed my shirt. I framed it after the show and it's been hanging on my bedroom wall since. I know you probably don't remember me but I will always remember you. That was the best day of my life.
Anyway, I'm not writing to tell you my life story, I'm writing to thank you.
At the beginning of 2008 I was diagnosed with cancer. I felt fine at first, I felt normal, like nothing was wrong. I tried to live a normal life and for a while I did but that all changed. I got a headache that wouldn't go away, my temperature went up and down like a yo-yo and I couldn't stop throwing up. The pain got worse and worse. They had me on a drip because I couldn't eat or drink and after a while I couldn't do anything. I couldn't even smile and that broke my mom's heart.
They said I wouldn't live and we were all preparing for... They said I wouldn't see 2009 but here I am. Not only am I alive but I'm getting better and I could be completely clear of cancer by the end of the year. People are calling it a miracle but they're not giving me the credit I deserve! I'm not here thanks to magic or a gift from God, I'm here because I refused to give up.
I remembered your victory against Arch Angel Anarchist and it gave me hope. I remembered when you overcame 31 other men to win the Indy King Cup and it gave me strength. I remembered your ORW World Championship win WITH A BROKEN NECK! And I thought to myself, if you can overcome odds like that, I can overcome cancer.
You inspired me to show the same fighting spirit that you've shown throughout your career. You inspired me to fight back and never give up, like you've never given up!
That's what I like about you – it's not the fact that you win, it's that you lose and come back fighting, you lose and come back stronger than before. And when you do win, it's always against the odds. Take your first month in GIW. In your first match, you had to defeat TWO people. In your second match, you're fighting for the GIW.com Championship! Then at Toxic Intent, Michael Cappeli got to pick the stipulation and you still won!
Now you've got to face the Immortal, Lord of Pain, Donovan Hastings! A GIW main eventer in your fifth match.
I know you'll defeat Donovan Hastings – if I can defeat cancer, you can defeat him... but if you don't, you'll go down fighting and you'll be back, fiercer than before. And I'll be cheering your name no matter what.
Maybe thinking of me will give you the inspiration you need to win, like thinking of you gave me the inspiration I needed.
Good luck (even though I don't believe in that).
And thank you again for saving my life.
Andy
