[Smoke clings to the air and floats on top, like the ocean clings to the surface of the earth. It weaves and moves like a sentient creature, attracted by other smoke clouds, intermingling with the fresh air. The sounds of Monster Magnet echo around the large cavern. The entire room in view is almost full of smoke, there are shadowy figures, motionless in the haze. Occasionally a figure will stand from whatever horizontal position they have adopted, and stumble out of the room.
As we adjust our eyes to the dull light it seems the room is actually heavily populated with many different people; few of them seem to be conscious from what we can see through the fog. Nonetheless, we are here for one, and he goes by the name of Travis Roberts. We seek him out, and take in the sights as we do so. We pass a couple, obviously high on some substance, so high that both parties have passed out in the middle of the act of felatio. Then we pass a table, a group of men and women; sit slumped around it, staring thoughtfully at a mouse, running excitedly around its cage.
In time we pass more people in various states of intoxication, the looks on their faces, their general demeanour suggests they have been in this room for days now, the empty fast food packaging splayed around the room attests to such a theory. After much searching, and many unholy sights we finally come across the focus of our interest.
“The Blessed One” is sitting some distance from the other ‘revellers’, and he is clutching what seems to be a Title Belt in his hands, staring into the gold plating at his own reflection. His appearance is of a man who has not slept, his hair and clothes dishevelled, burn holes litter his black silk shirt and his eyes look sunken and gaunt. We are here for one reason, to take a trip, in “The Headliners” Mind.
And all the while, the music plays]
”This belt….it means so much to me, everything it represents I strive to hold true…those who have held it, on the most part, carried it with dignity and respect…it may only be a symbol of my long dead past, a past I cannot let go of.
But why should I? Why should I let go and forget about the best times of my life? Why should I accept that those times are over?...I miss those times, the people, the fans…the adulation! Why should I believe that that era is over? No it’s not over, it merely lies dormant, the TWiSTeD Guardians will one day rise again…and I will be at the forefront once more, taking my rightful place at the top.
This new set I find myself with, they don’t know what I’m talking about…they’ve never felt community like it….they just cannot grasp the magnitude of what TWiSTeD stood for. I’m sure they’d all love it if I just didn’t exist, so I couldn’t remind them what they could become…if only they had the drive.
But I’m on my own…who is there to forge destiny with? They just don’t understand me, they don’t want to understand me. eD’s hearts in the right place….hell he’s as TWiSTeD as anyone I know…but…he’s not the power he once was….he doesn’t have the ability to make TWiSTeD a household name again. Together we are like ex-cons...re-entering the world…institutionalised…unable to find our place in a new kingdom…
In this new…strange land…who’s gonna teach me how to dance? Who’s going to show me how to fly?”
“Was this the right thing to do? Should I have listened to eD in the first place? Did we really need to come back? Have I made a mistake? Is this destined to be a failure? Can I rekindle past glories?...I have so many questions of myself….and they have more…Why Didn’t I show at BoolZ’ side? Am I going to join Global Domination? Can I still keep up with today’s younger generation? Am I washed up?...They have their doubts…
And maybe they are right…I have my own doubts….maybe I got lucky on my first Sentinel…and I’ll be exposed at Toxic Intent...does anyone remember me? Is Randy right…did the rest of the world just forget about me…like a bad dream?
This is my bad dream, my waking nightmare…I’m not strong enough to start it all again…is it even worth it? Do I really have the energy to overstay my welcome…should I just face facts, and put the legend to bed…
Is there even a legacy? People have called me deluded in the past…but I just figured they were jealous….but maybe I’ve only ever wanted to see what I want…hear what I want…maybe I was never the star I thought I was…
Maybe that’s why she left?..I’ll never know for sure, she’s far too busy these days…she’s far too…successful. She got that divorce, and since she wants nothing to do with me…I’m probably to blame…who wants a husband who’s in a coma? Even if she had hope I’d pull through…she knew….she knew I’d never be the same again. She knew there was no-going back…I can just see her laughing now…hearing about my return…I’m sure that’s entertained her and her new man no end!
It’s my own fault, she fell in love with the glamour, the TWiSTeD determination…she knew that that was gone the moment she saw my eyes open for the first time in two years…she was quick to realise…that I was sucking the life out of her…”
[Travis slumps forward, the belt that he clutched in his lap slides to the floor. He holds his head in his hands, and seems to be weeping. After a minute or so, he rubs his eyes, and spots a half smoked rollie in the ashtray, lights it, and then proceeds to lean back into his chair…and the music still plays]
“What am I thinking?...I mean, what the hell is Travis Roberts thinking? It’s clear ‘The Blessed One’ enriches the life of those around him…it’s just not part of ‘The Headliners’ role to ‘suck life’ out of people…that’s what they do to me…there is no need for doubt, if Mary-Jo decided she no longer wanted a life that was blessed…that’s her loss. “The Blessed One” is doing just fine without her…Travis Roberts doesn’t need a women…hell “The Blessed One” should never deprive the rest of the female population by being married…that’s just uncaring…
A lot of questions are being asked of ‘The Headliner’…so what? When has Travis Roberts ever cared what other people think? If they can’t keep up that’s not ‘the Blessed Ones’ problem, Travis Roberts doesn’t have problems anyway…nothing flusters ‘The Headliner’. The dirt sheets, like Global Impact Playa, think Travis Roberts is suffering from ring rust, they just have not been paying attention. Travis Roberts is not ‘The Well Trained Man’ nor is he merely a ‘Technical Expert’…Travis Roberts is “The Blessed One”, the guys that writes those dirt sheets would be wise to do some research. Two years in a coma couldn’t stop Travis Roberts, he stands strong in front of Global Impact Wrestling, ready to take his place right back at the top of the Sports Entertainment Industry. Maybe they just don’t know what being ‘Blessed’ truly means…to be worthy of adoration, reverence, or worship …and why is ‘The Headliner’ worthy of such things, because he’s got the most natural talent of any warrior who has entered the squared circle. Just because the people ‘in the know’ at GIW haven’t recognised ‘The Headliners’ talents, it’s no reason for Travis Roberts to doubt himself…
GIW has yet to fully comprehend the magnitude of ‘The Blessed Ones’ arrival in its arena. Just over a week ago, The Blessed One stumbled out, alongside BoolZ against Savage and Hasting, ‘The Headliner’ took his turn, and planted the Nazi’s face into the matt, and Travis Roberts made GIW’s scene.
”BoolZ forgot about Travis Roberts, and he is convinced the world has forgotten the legacy of the ‘TWiSTeD High Commander’. ‘The Headliner’ can understand BoolZ state of amnesia, after all without ‘The Blessed One’ watching his back he got a hell of a beating from Komosube. Travis Roberts isn’t naïve enough to think just because Randy was able to cause trouble late on that his memory wasn’t affected by that moment…
It matters not, Toxic Intent is merely days away now, and ‘The Headliner’ will be able to refresh BoolZ’ memory. It’s easy to understand why Randy’s mind would deceive him, the stark truth that he will never attain a level higher than that of ‘The Blessed One’ would be too much for him. ‘The Blessed One’ cannot pretend he understand what it is like, knowing that you will be Number 2 no matter how hard you work, it must be crippling for ones motivation. Travis Roberts will do his best to help Randy come to terms with this basic fact of life, when Toxic Intent is over, BoolZ will comprehend what being truly ‘Blessed’ means, and hopefully he will then accept his fate with dignity and honour.
As for Cara Costello, and Global Domination, is Travis Roberts destined to join their ranks? Whilst BoolZ believes the world has forgotten about ‘The Headliner’, the world itself is focusing on ‘The Headliners’ next move. Will ‘The Blessed One’ take up the offer Miss Costello placed in his lap? Whilst Travis Roberts does not need any help in reclaiming his place at the top of the wrestling industry, Cara’s offer is attempting one. With the support of those in power, ‘The Headliner’ would be able to dominate Global Impact Wrestling, and take the company to the next level…
‘The Headliner’ hopes the world is not naïve enough to believe that Travis Roberts would be the only one to benefit from such an arrangement. GIW’s sponsors will be pressurising Cara to get Travis Roberts as much exposure as possible, to help this franchise make the big time. It’s obviously in Cara’s best interests that Travis Roberts is part of Global Domination, because as she stated if you’re not with them, you’re against them. With the growing pressure from the money men of GIW to involve ‘The Headliner’, Cara Costello cannot risk Travis facing off against and humiliating her guys…
Come to think of it, Cara needs ‘The Blessed One’ more than that, it’s clear that Global Domination need a leader. Unless we are at a show, they exist separately, with separate agenda’s…it’s rare ‘The Blessed One’ actually see’s Global Domination as a team….whilst one is strolling around a park…another is kneeling in front of Grandfather clocks, and hanging around outside people’s homes.
Global Domination are falling into darkness, running blind. They have problems, it’s true, but they all begin with themselves…
“Why did ‘The Blessed One’ ever doubt Travis Roberts? It’s clear that ‘The Headliner’ is still the icon, the legend that he always was, merely he is now in a much smaller pond. Like a fallen angel ‘The Blessed’ one crashed into the desert like surroundings of Global Impact Wrestling. There are signs of life, but life that lives in the extremes, on the edge of society. ‘The Headliner’ has made this his brand new home, and his entrance has already left a mark, a crater on the landscape of this company. Whilst the souls that inhabit GIW, feed from the success and the brilliance of Travis Roberts, whilst ‘the Headliner’ makes stars of all those that cross his path, Travis Roberts will defeat them as fast as they come. At Toxic Intent, the wrestling world can breathe a sigh of relief, their saviour has returned!”
[We remove ourselves from the mind of “The Blessed One” and prepare our escape, just as Travis Roberts passes out. Scene ends…but the music continues to play]
