Induction:
The Creative Director of UGWC, “The Lord of Pain” Donovan Hastings, steps out onto the stage and approaches the podium.
Hastings: There are two things that make a Hall of Famer, to me. Legacy and accomplishment. What did you achieve in your career? What have you left behind for others to follow? What did you do that set you apart, that you did that nobody else had ever done, that nobody else may ever do? What made you special? Our next inductee checked all those boxes, and more.
Hastings: Ezekiel Pax traces his roots before UGWC, to one of our “parent” promotions, Global Impact Wrestling, all the way back in 2008. His first victory came over a man named Garth Gaffney.
Fan: FUCK YEAH GAFFNEY!
Hastings: I see the beer stands are still open. Chaos should be happy. As I was saying, Zeke made his name in GIW alongside his partner, Marek Daisuke. Together they were known as War and Peace, and that year at Horizons they fought American Muscle in a brutal Three Stages of Hell Match to become the first-ever GIW Tag Team Champions. Legacy and accomplishment.
Hastings: After UGWC formed, Zeke came into his own as a singles competitor. He won both the Chaos and Cross-Hemisphere Championships within his first year in the promotion. He won the Cooperative Championship alongside Mickey Dragon. He won the World Heavyweight Title inside Hell in a Cell. You all know what that makes him. Grand Slam Champion. How many of those do we have now? Eight? When Zeke did it, he was only the third. Legacy and accomplishment
Hastings: There have been seven Hell in a Cell matches in UGWC history. It is a horrifyingly brutal match that takes years off your career and leaves scars not only on the body but the soul of anybody that steps within it. To win it, you not only have to conquer your opponent, but you almost have to be able to get inside their head. Nobody has ever participated in two Hell in a Cell matches in UGWC, except Ezekiel Pax. He did it three times. Who did he step inside that cell with? Moss Edwards, Hall of Famer. Phrixus Deimos, likely first-ballot future Hall of Famer. The Drunken Buzzsaw, Chaos...Hall of Famer. Legacy and accomplishment.
Hastings: Zeke and I have had something of a complicated history. We had a misunderstanding of sorts, I can’t seem to recall over what but I am sure it was his fault, but we worked through it and he joined me at the Dungeon of Pain and enjoyed the greatest successes of his career, both in the ring as well as giving back as a mentor and instruction to a new generation. Then he was a dick again and I had to shit him with shit. But Zeke never backed down from big moments. When the Drunken Buzzsaw was on the verge of being known as the greatest Chaos Champion in history, it was Ezekiel Pax who stepped up and said, if you want to be known as that, you’re going through me. Now the journey of the Hall of Fame, of our history of legacies and accomplishments, goes through him. Please join me in welcoming to the stage our newest Hall of Famer, the Red-Eyed Warrior, Ezekiel Pax.
‘Iron Man’ by Black Sabbath plays through the PA system as the Red Eyed Wonder makes his way onto the stage dawning a red three piece tuxedo, black shirt, and red tie. He shakes Donovan’s hand with a nod of respect. The cheers are deafening as he makes his way to the edge of the stage and takes in the reception from his loyal fans. He reaches into the inside pocket of his tuxedo and pulls out a pre-rolled treat. Zeke lights it up with a smile on his face and pockets the lighter before exhaling a massive cloud above his head. He turns and walks to the podium and exhales another cloud of goodness. Pax holds the joint in his hand and gets ready to talk but the cheers pick up even more.
Chants of ‘WELCOME BACK’ echo across the building and morph into chants of ‘PAX! PAX’ PAX!’ as a broad smile spreads across his face. He takes another drag and blows some smoke into the air and before flicking the joint off the edge of the stage.
“Man, oh man. Feels great to be back. Even for just a moment. Last year around this time I was sitting in the crowd as Moss Edwards was inducted into the Hall of Fame and deemed me one of his greatest rivals. And he playfully reminded me that he kicked my ass nearly every time we fought. Well, Mossy…”
Pax smirks slightly as he adjusts the ring on his hand.
“Does this look reminiscent of last year?”
He looks outward to the crowd and raises a middle finger before smiling again and adjusting the ring back to his ring finger.
“In all seriousness and with all the respect in the world, Moss Edwards changed the game in these parts and elevated me to be a better competitor. And for that, I give thanks.”
Zeke gives a slight nod toward the crowd and rubs his chin while thinking of what to say next.
“Let’s blast to the past a little bit, shall we? Donny covered this a bit but let’s dig a little deeper. This story begins for me in 2008 when I was escorted through the halls of the GIW arena by my stepfather, Xavier Bryan. None, and I mean NONE, of this would be possible without him. I was just bumming along in life till about a year before that when he lit a fire under my ass and convinced me to team up with this little skinny Asian dude named Marek Daisuke that was kicking ass at his gym. Two young kids that were polar opposites and formed the aptly named duo of War & Peace. Angry kid who needed an outlet teaming with a chill stoner dude. Opposites attract, right?”
He pauses and takes a breath while running his fingers through his hair, remembering his dear friend.
“Nobody pushed me harder than Marek did.”
He looks down at the ring for just a moment.
“He deserves this more than I do. To Marek.”
Pax raises his hand with the ring on it upward as the crowd erupts in cheers. He wipes a tear from his cheek before a smile crosses his face once again.
“Big props to my bro, Donny, on that induction speech, right? We haven’t always gotten along but some of my favorite memories have been with that crazy son of a bitch and I’m glad he remembers me so fondly. Also, just to clarify, we had beef because you burned my church down, dickhead. But after that we somehow became allies and I joined you at the Dungeon of Pain, bro. We had good times in that gym before you and Trav plotted against me and cost me the Global Championship. But.. shrug. There was more good days than bad days, am I right?
Enemy. Friend. Partner. Protege. Enemy again. Nominated for feud of the fuckin’ year! Thank you, Donny.”
The crowd erupts in more cheers as Pax reminisces on his past with Hastings.
“I can’t let you hog all the glory of kicking my ass though. That’s a long list. Someone who definitely should be mentioned on that list.. Phrixus Deimos. Without sounding disrespectful, I beat this dude when he was seemingly unbeatable. BUT.. if you were to look closely at my face you would see the legacy that he left as he helped me earn my favorite nickname that was coined that evening by the awesome UGWC commentary team. Indestructible. When I won the World Heavyweight championship it was by scratching, clawing, and fighting my way through that man. I was never the same again and for that.. Deimos. I thank you.
I also had some solid moments with the other men joining me on stage this evening. JK and myself formed a short lived little group known as The Vicious Kind but before AND after that we beat the hell out of each other. I enjoyed every moment I stepped inside that ring with you, dude. Whether it was with you or against you. Thank you.
And then there’s Chaos. I can’t mention the other men I faced in the Hell in a Cell without mentioning this mother fucker. As Donny stated, I wasn’t going to let this guy just claim himself as the best Chaos champion of all time without stepping in his way. I proclaimed myself as the gatekeeper of the Chaos Title. Not only because of my reigns as champion but because of the reign of my best friend, Marek. In one single reign he held that title longer than anyone else has. Except Chaos. Everyone called me crazy for willingly stepping in front of the Drunken Buzzsaw but I haven’t exactly been known for my sanity. I was unsuccessful in my mission but I didn’t make it easy for him. It truly is an honor to be inducted into the Hall of Fame next to him. Thank you, Chaos.
I have had several names and titles during my time here. Lackey. Leader. Criminal. Partner. Champion. And now, thanks to all of you, I can add another title. Hall of Famer.”
Cheers of ‘ONE MORE MATCH’ begin to echo throughout the arena as Zeke’s signature smirk appears once again. The cheers continue as he reaches inside his jacket and pulls out another joint, lighting it up. He takes a long drag off the joint and exhales the speak up into the air above him. The crowd quiets down as he prepares to speak again.
“Who knows, boys and girls. There could be more chapters written in this story where I walk down that ramp and get into that ring and get my ass kicked in front of all of you, the amazing fans, once again. Whether you cheered for me or booed me, you always let yourselves be heard as I made my way to the ring. For now you’re just going to have to do what Arnie said in Batman & Robin.”
Pax takes another long drag with another exhale before leaning into the microphone.
“Chill.”
The arena erupts into cheers as Ezekiel raises his hand into the air with a peace sign, his original symbol that he was known for in GIW. He bows then waves and makes his way off stage as the cheers continue.
