Sarah Selena Grey-Lacklan had been disappointed over inability to topple the World Champion at Battleground, but when one door closed, another one opened. She could have easily fallen off the map after her loss, but while others took time off, she and her Beloved were still fighting, this time on Chill, and she was in the main event against her ‘Frienemy’ in a match that was sure to have golden implications for her…she just needed to make sure that she still had all the right people in her corner.
She stood outside Ichabod’s door, glancing around to make sure that her wife was nowhere to be seen. Kenzi didn’t trust Ichabod and she didn’t think that the man had the best intentions, but what her wife failed to realize was that this was a business and while being the best in the ring was a huge part of things, it wasn’t everything. Working all the angles was the other half of the equation and that is where The FireStarter excelled above all others.
Sarah smiled as she reached for the door knob, only to have the door open up and to find herself face to face with one of the past people she expected to see. Sarah blinked as her mother-in-law stepped out, assessing her with a critical eye. “Sarah.”
Sarah retuned the look with an equally critical one of her own, “Mother Grey. What brings you here?”
Sid raise a single eyebrow, “I could ask you the same…” She let a slight chuckle escape her as she dabbed at the corner of her mouth. “…but I’m sure its not for the same reasons.” Sid watched as the wheels inside Sarah’s dirty little mind worked. She leaned casually against the doorframe, folding her arms. “So, you and Maggie Lockheart are finally gonna…get it on…huh?”
Sarah gave a massive eyeroll at the connotation. “I am going to bitch slap the pretend Cross-Hemisphere Champion and remind everyone that I am the one who never lost that title!”
Another chuckle from Sid, “Well, hopefully you don’t lose. That is what everyone would be reminded of, if you do. However, they can always look back on the last episode of Chill and revel in the moment that my daughter drew against her…” Sid looked to the side as she stroked her chin absently, “I mean…that has to count for something in the scheme of things, shouldn’t it?”
Sarah grumbled under her breath; something about helping with that draw. When Sid gave a questioning look, Sarah waved it off. “Nothing Mother Grey.” Sarah glanced at Ichabod’s door, chewing her lower lip for a moment before asking, “Business or pleasure with Icky?”
“Wouldn’t you like to know!” Sid came off the door jam, looking down at Sarah, “I’m actually here to secure my daughter’s future in the Coalition. She has the benefit of three years under my tutelage and I am going to be sure to maximize that time by showing her just how the business of professional wrestling really works! Kind of like this little dust up with Angie and Dave. It’s a good first lesson…don’t you think?”
Sarah narrowed her eyes, “Angie is Kenzi’s friend…this isn’t a lesson, just a little misunderstanding.”
Sid shook her head at this, a look of disappointment on her face. “That’s a shame Dear, I would have thought that someone like you had a handle on that lesson already. Hell, even Angie knows that when it comes to championships, there are no friends…” Sid laughed as she patted Sarah on the shoulder and brushed past her, “…no family either.”
Sarah turned, watching Sid walk off as she turned the woman’s words over and over inside her head. After a moment, she called out after her; “JUST FOR THE RECORD, #ICHNEY IS GOING TO BE A THING!”
Sid raised her middle finger without bothering to turn around, leaving Sarah to her secretive musings.
