Personally, I think it's the no-shows that are bringing the place down. Now, don't think i'm trying to call anyone out, I know better than anyone how much life gets in the way, but it's difficult to run a good fued when half the participants may or may not be there from one week to the next.
Honestly, I think what Wayne was simply saying, in his Wayne way, was that the friend vs friend match is generic and overdone... it's still entertaining if you work with it. Part of the fun of this game, in my opinion, is figuring out how to take something you'd rather not do and having fun with it... such as special stipulations by the opponent, handicap matches, matches against friends, or what have you. We could all just face our in character enemies week in and week out, but that doesn't hype fueds enough for them to be entertaining.
We don't just need more additions to the roster, we need more participation from what we've got.

On the subject of booking, I'll say this and nothing more: when I asked (and admittedly I could have done so in a kinder, gentler way) why my guys were constantly getting booked in tag matches with Jet Somers, the answer I recieved was something along the lines of "because it amuses me."
ThRob is right, the shit can't go on like it has been. I'm willing to shoulder some blame for morale being low or whatever. I've been a real dick lately, and a lot of it isn't justified. I don't feel like I've gotten a lot of warm fuzzies from everybody, but they say you get what you give, right? Thus (and I'm sure someone will make some kinda shocked comment like they never thought I could be anything other than a jackass,) I'm saying that I'm sorry.

Having recovered some what from my illness today, I have to admit I have a more positive outlook on things as they stand.
Let me first say I was not having a go at anyone in particular in my last comment, was just venting, which is something I think I rarely do in public.
I'd love to get more members I really would, but a few obstacles I think stand in the way. Firstly I don't have the time to go recruiting, it's just too time consuming for me to do on top of everything else, if others wish to try and do so I have no problem with that.
Secondly, because their is such a tight nit community here, we all pretty much know what the next person is gonna say OOC before they've even read a post, that can to some be quite intimidating, as it there is the ovious fear they won't be able to break into the groups (which is a valid fear, but under the surface we are all very welcoming)
It probably also doesn't help that the same guy that runs the fed has been champion for almost a year now, I can imagine quite a few RP-ers think 'Whats the point, the boss will only put himself over', which I hope you guys know is not the case, but at the end of the day for that I blame all of you for voting my way.
But as Ichy says, we don't necessarily need more members, the members we've got can tear this place up, we just need to ensure their is more participation.
I think the point I was trying to make with the friend vs friend thing is the majority of the characters in the fed seem to be alligned to either The Covenant or Group Therapy in some way. This obviously makes sense given the amount of time you guys have been in the game together, but it DOES make creating original and interesting cards that much more difficult when so many people are alligned or affiliated with one another.
Also on that note, many of the stories and threads running throughout the year (Donnny & Travis, Moss & BoolZ, Raenius & Jet/Salem etc etc) have made it difficult to mix everyone fully, something that I hope will change after Horizons when hopefully a lot of those threads can be resolved or at least put to bed temporarily.
I think jet is right, the no-shows do drag the place down somewhat, and it's dissapointing because we can have some outstanding weeks, but they are generally followed by a couple of duds. Now speak up if this is because my card booking sucks donkey balls and fails to inspire you all, but otherwise we need to try and sort it out. I think it's just a case of people being more realistic about the time they have available in the next week. Sure sometimes shit can happen that forces us to miss a post, but surely not most weeks. The likes of A-Kis, R!, Ad, JK, Chassie, Donny and others will regularly PM if they think they'll struggle to post the next week, and they get left off the card. I don't think it's that difficult to have a bit of foresight into the next 7 days and determine whether posting will be too much, and I have no problem giving people a week off the card, just ask the aforementioned set of guys.
And I wanted to address a few things Wayne mentioned. Firstly I apologise if I was so glib regarding being tagged with jet, what I should have said is given the fact you were both in the same stable at the time it made sense to tag you together, also the contrast between KvK and jet was entertaining to write. I say this because it's likely the same thing will happen this week (but only due to what I have in mind for Horizons next week).
I would also say, thanks for the apology Wayne, but I'd also like to point out this is not any one persons fault. Yeah sure you can be cantankerous, but you were like that the moment you signed up to the boards, so anyone who's surprised or even offended by it is quite clearly slow on the uptake. And sure sometimes you get peoples backs up, but seriously who the fuck doesn't in this place, your just a bit more upfront about it. Sometimes this game can make us feel like shit, and the 'warm fuzzies' feel like a rare species, I know I feel like that on a regular basis.
I have some idea's about how to make my own personal experience a bit better, and in turn that will hopefully improve other peoples experiences as well, so lets see.
But thanks for the input guys, it's nice to know people do take this place seriously and it gives me some reason to look to 2010 with optimism.

I also take blame, the no show was uncalled for...again my life got in the way. Doesn't help finals are upon us(Took my practical in my cooking class, think I made an A.) got a final and practical, a paper, and a study session all due tomorrow, then work my ass off on the books and go in next week to clean house and take the other two finals. . .
I know compared to what some of us go through that's nothing, but I've never really excelled in school before, and now that I am I don't wanna stop. Anyways, for all my part in this mess, I too am sorry. Forgives me.
This is going to sound like a baby steps bush league idea, but it may have come to this at least temporarily. There is an entire day between the results and the card usually... since this roster is so in and out, why not hold a 24 sign up sheet? If you're going to be available to post, say so, and you get booked.
I do have this to say, from what I've seen so far, Rob is pretty open to suggestions. If you have suggestions for matches, I'm sure he'd like to hear them. And Rob, on that vein, I'd say keep your mind open, because that is people telling you what they'd find entertaining.
Guys, I've been involved in ewrestling in one form or another for over a decade, and i love the game. i don't have the time I used to, but I would like to put my self out there to help out making the game entertaining. What I'm saying is, if you are dry for ideas, or you have a fued you want to hype over a period of weeks before it's culmination, drop me a note in the PM box. I always have interesting ideas, I think, and I can usually get a feel for people's characters and motivations, and sometimes even help them find new motivators. Everyone I've seen here has interesting stories and gimmicks, but it seems the hang up is coming from where things should go next. I'm willing to throw ideas at you if you'll have them. Don't expect me to have time to read ninety roleplays though. If I had that kind of time I'd be writing matches every week, trust me, heh.
I too apologize for feeling like a downer or uninterested with Jet at times, it's just a new character, and this is the only fed my 10 year vet character hasn't been a part of.

Our group hasn't been able to "break into" yours, though. We all came in together, and you guys were all here already. It's why the thing with P kicked off, it's why there's been bitchiness in the past and there will be in the future. We haven't become a part of anything, really. Or at least that's how we feel.
But saying that some new person coming in will be intimidated - I call bullshit on that. Everyone does when they join a fed, if they're new or they've been doing it as long as we have. It's always the same. Any new game community that you join, you're always worried about being accepted in some form or fashion.
I take this place as seriously as I've taken any fed I've ever been in. I love this game, that's why - Like Ichy - I've been doing it for over a decade. But when it comes to be that I can call the winner of every match on a card, simply by looking at their names (like I did with the last card, the 29th) then something's gone wrong somewhere.

If you couldn't do it last week where every match had at least one no-show it'd be very worrying.
When it comes to you guys not being integrated though, I think T-Rob will agree with me that in the begining especially, you didn't really try to be. Sure you were here but the first feuds you put yourselves in were with each other. I seem to remember alot of promo feeds advising you advising you to come into the GIW world more.
I mean, this place isn't uninviting to new people. I was new once and thisis my first e-fed. I didn't know what to expect but I just let myself get picked up by whatever came along and was swiftly submerged in the whole thing.

I gotta agree with that statement of feds being intimidating to new fedders. GIW was my first real RP based Ewrestling thing, withstanding the fact that Bebo feds sren't necessarilly real Efeds as there are multiple promos and the winners of the matches are generally decided on well before the card itself is posted, and I have to say that I did feel somewhat aloneish with all the different cliques all set out, and to be completely honest, even now I am a little hesitant before posting stuff here even though I'm probably more comfortable with the settings of the GIW.
also agree with T-Robs' point on bringing in some new guys. I tried to run a fed earlier this year, and long story short, it epic failed. Namely because I wasn't able to really get some recriting under way due to the time consumingness of doing it on my own. maybe if we each tried to do a little promoting for the GIW, we may wind up with some newer talent that could be used for some new storylines, as it has mostly been re-kindled feuds, and the Covanent vs. Group therapy, not that those aren't entertainging though. take your shots atit, just thought I should give my two cents.

Initially we did tend to stick with "our own", but to say that we haven't made any attempt to find feuds with anyone else is grossly unfair. R! and I have both tried to find feuds outside of the "Covenant-Sleaze and Brewtality-Group Therapy" thing. For R! and I the feeling is not that we won't or can't feud with anyone else, it's that we feel that even when we do feud with others that we feel that we can expect to lose more often than not...at least at PPVs where the matches are voted on. It's hard to stay motivated to RP when you carry that feeling around with you and R! is right that generally we feel that we know who's going to win a given match as soon as we look at the card.
I admit that we're not the easiest group of people to crack the shell of, but as a group we're willing to work with anyone. R! and I both have feuds developing, he with Roberts and me with Hastings. I gotta tell you that while the buildup has been good for them it was wounded (if not killed) by having two straight weeks where at least one of us didn't show up on the card. Now we're booked against Korpi and Jet. I have no problem RPing against Wayne and Ichy and they know that, but it leaves R! and I wondering if the feuds that we're building up are still happening. I have no storyline feud with KvK or Korpi now that Salem is gone.
With R! and I our main issue is feeling like regardless of what we do that at least when it comes to PPV matches that we're going to lose. I'll be honest that every time he and I are booked for a match on a PPV that we feel like we're going to lose and I'm going to be the reason why. Maybe Dirge is a tad too cerebral a character for some around here, I don't know. I don't like watering him down to make him more "accessible" as a character though. I don't do humor with him, at least not clownish humor. He's an insidious heel type and yeah, he has a move set that would be finishers for most people. I've always played him that way. This is the first place I've used him where I feel like a liability to my team. That's a real motivation killer, let me tell you.
I'm with R! on the whole "intimidation" thing though. I've been doing this game for almost 15 years now and that's a non factor for me.
That's my two cents anyway.
Why choose a lesser evil, folks? Dirge. Presidential candidate of the future.
Post by T-Robosaurus Rex on Dec 3, 2009 8:47:55 GMT -5
A very simple point here, you guys probably wouldn't lose if people actually bothered to vote....I mean you have a lot of supporters, but pretty much every PPV they don't bother to vote, because apparently sending a list of names in a 24 hour window is just too much to ask, and correct me if I'm wrong but you've never been whitewashed anyway, losing by a few votes isn't that bad, and I can tell you you'd probably be surprised at who does actually vote for you guys.
And as for this weeks card, it's the last before Horizons, and whilst we are building feuds between Raenius and T-Rob and Dirge and Donny they are gonna be more apparent after Horizons, seeing as the major focus for Donny anjd T-Rob at the moment is one another as they are facing for the biggest title on the biggest PPV of the year.

I think T-Rob will agree with me that in the begining especially, you didn't really try to be. Sure you were here but the first feuds you put yourselves in were with each other.
Another thing I call bullshit on. We've been in fed after fed together and this was the only place that we felt we had to have storylines with each other because we couldn't with anyone else. You say we didn't try, and that we only stuck together. We say no one accepted us and we were forced to. Six of one, half a dozen of the other.
My post wasn't intended to bitch about anything, I was just telling it like it is. I genuinely like most, if not all of the denizens of GIW and Rob is a great fed-runner, but like Ad says, when it comes to the cards, we never feel confident. When it comes to feuding with other people, we feel like there are more important things for them to do than bother with us.
Post by The Greater Evil on Dec 3, 2009 14:05:35 GMT -5
Yup. R! said it a lot more succinctly than I did. Nothing to disagree with there. I'm merely trying to express frustration and motivational challenges, not call anyone out.

Cool. Thanks Rob, that clears it up perfectly. I was curious as to what was going on and not intending it to come across like a criticism or complaint.

Ok I don't want to say you guys never have tried. Certainly recently your feuding with Roberts and Hastings respectivley has been my favourite stuff you've done. That's just the impression I got very early on.
