The Global Challenge Tournament returns in 2023!
What is this?
The Global Challenge is a Round Robin tournament unfolding over the first six weeks of the UGWC calendar year. Ten entrants will participate in the event, which is first come, first serve, and is open to new members of UGWC as well. The winner of the event will receive the first of four keys to be awarded during the year that grant the winner access to the Keeper of the Keys event in November.
The ten entrants will be split into two blocks, and each participant will face the other four members of their block one time. Scoring possibilities are listed below. At Infinity on February 13, the participants of each block will be ranked and will face off against the same ranked opponent from the opposite block. Ties are broken by head to head performance. While all five match-ups will have a prize on the line, the top ranked competitor in each block will compete for the Global Challenge Key.
How do I participate?
You can sign up by responding to this post. If you are new to UGWC, you should also post a bio on the Roster Board. By participating, you are committing to having a match on four of the five following dates: Jan 9, Jan 16, Jan 23, Jan 30, Feb 6. You are also guaranteed a match at Infinity on February 13.
Of the dates from Jan 9-Feb 6, you will have one week off and will not be booked. If you have a preference as to which date that is, please tell us by December 31. The full tournament schedule will be announced by January 2, and once the schedule is posted no-showing a week for any reason will result in an automatic loss and matches cannot be rescheduled.
The reigning World Champion is not eligible to compete in the tournament, however it is open to everyone else. Should the Cross-Hemisphere or Chaos Champions participate in the tournament, they will defend their title at Infinity. Should the Conquest Champion participate in the tournament, all of their matches will be title defenses as well. Additionally, they would still be required to defend the title on what would have otherwise been their off week.
ALL TEN participants will have a prize to compete for at Infinity.
Good luck!
