“A failure establishes only this, that our determination to succeed was not strong enough.”
The scene opens to a corner of the Dungeon of Pain. Xavier stands tall, holding some kick pads as Marek stands with his hands on his knees, sweat dripping from his forehead. A few marks from the Bushfire Match are still visible but he seems to be mostly healed up.
“Again!” barks Xavier, pushing Marek to continue.
Marek catches his breath and steps forward, unleash two side left kicks, a left knee, and a right backfist into a spinning right elbow.
“Again!”
Marek unleashes another wicked combo before taking a breather.
“Again!”
Marek shakes his head no. “I just need a short break.”
“AGAIN!!”
“No!” Marek says, thrusting his hands toward the ground, causing the gloves to fall to the floor.
Xavier tosses the kick pads to the ground.
“You asked ME to help YOU, Marek. You went through hell at No Hold Barred --”
“No thanks to you. I brought you back, remember?”
“Watch it, kid.”
“Sorry. I am just..”
“Frustrated?”
Marek nods his head. “I just do not feel like my old self. I let my partner down. I let.. I let The Lord down.”
“Who? Since when did you become religious?”
“The Lord.”
Xavier thinks about it for a second. He shakes his head in disbelief when he gets it.
“Whoa. Okay. That’s just weird. Are you actually buying into his shit? I thought you just wanted to give that Peterson kid another shot at the titles.”
“That is how it began, Xavier, but the more I spend time in this place and around Chris, I see that The Lord is not just some crude cult leader but a smart man who knows what he is talking about. Look at his rate of success. He is a former multi-time champion. His two main subjects are former champions as well. The writing is on the wall.”
Xavier sighs. “Just be careful, kid. I’ve never really liked this Hastings fella.”
“Do not worry. I am not some naive student any longer. I am one half of the future Co-Op Champions.”
“That’s what I like to hear.” Xavier says with a smile. “Now...”
He raises the kick pad up to chest level.
“Again.”
Marek nods in agreement as he steps forward toward Xavier.
“What the fuck, man?” Ezekiel says, as he ducks a flower pot flying toward his head. “What the hell are you doing?”
“I can’t take it anymore, Zeke!” Scarlet screams, collapsing on the floor, her back to the wall. She looks up at Ezekiel with tears in her eyes. “I’m not even a part of your life anymore. All you do is smoke weed, train with Ezra, and watch cartoons.”
“Well, not exactly in that order. If I smoke before we train, it doesn’t really work out.”
“That’s exactly my point, Zeke! Everything is just a fucking joke to you.”
“Life is too short not to laugh a lot, Scar. When did you start taking yourself so damn serious?”
Scarlet pushes herself up from the floor. “It’s a part of growing up. I’m guessing your mentor never taught you that.”
“Don’t diss on Big X. His only part in this fight between me and you was that he never forgave you for burning me alive. Or did you forget that? I know it was an accident so I have forgiven you.”
“Don’t hold that over my head. That has nothing to with why you’ve tossed me to the wayside. It’s like I don’t even exist. It seemed like things were getting better last week before you let that little bastard get away with calling me a bitch. You just stood there and let it happen.”
Ezekiel shakes his head and crosses his arms. “His emotions were running high. We’re leading up to the 2nd biggest show that will happen this year, Scar. I figured you’d understand but you never will bec---”
“Because why?” she interrupts “Because I’m not a competitor?”
“Yes. That’s exactly it. I’m not trying to degrade you, I’m just saying that you’re not able to understand it.”
Scar shakes her head and grabs her jacket. “That’s bullshit.”
She storms out of the room as Ezekiel sits down on the couch. “It’s 80 degrees outside...”
“Ladies and Gentlemen, my name is Joe and I’ve been hiatus lately for personal reasons but something as huge as WrestleStock needed recognition, so here I am before you with the newest episode of THE RUNDOWN.”
He fixes his glasses and reaches for some notes that were sitting to the side and puts in front him.
“As well as the usual rundown of the events for WrestleStock, I will also be showing what I’ve been learning in my ‘Investigative Journalism’ class in school.”
Joe clears his throat and looks down at the notes.
“Unlike last year, Day One of WrestleStock will showcase the influx of teams that have formed since the beginning of the year. When UGWC re-opened its doors after their yearly break that follows Horizons, only one team existed that is now a part of WrestleStock. The Piercing Weapons were not even considered Co-Op Title contenders as we closed out the year but at the first big show of 2012, they claimed the belts from the Dungeon of Pain.
As they head into WrestleStock, it’s safe to say that no one can match the experience of TPW but it is also safe to say that Jet will not be the only ‘wild card’ in this match. One half of Remitude, Vaughn Brennen, hasn’t really ever gotten wind beneath his wings since he began wrestling in UGWC and some folks consider him a setback to Remi Monroe, who has proven to be a solid singles competitor. This team just doesn’t seem to click. Forget ‘magnitude’, this team doesn’t even have fortitude.
Speaking of fortitude, the Lords Enforcers are full of it. Chris has overcome setbacks in training as well as tough decisions involving his family to become a rising star while his partner has overcome the death of his ENTIRE family as well as losing his entire purse. This team stands as one of the top prospects heading into WrestleStock but they aren’t my top pick.
That spot belongs to Scott N Stein aka the Monsters of Mayhem aka the Gurus of Genocide aka the Admirals of Ass-kicking. These two guys came on the scene with a vengeance. Did anyone watch No Holds Barred because I know I did. Alex Stein stomped out the competition like he was stopping a forest fire while Mr. Scott DOMINATED Moss Edwards in losing effort. Going in WrestleStock, Alex and Zane are hands down my pick for becoming the Co-Op Champions and they may achieve it faster than anyone else in history.
Movin---”
“You forgot a team, dumbass.”
“Shh.”
“You ‘shh’.”
Joe reaches forward and aims the camera off to his right to show Franco sitting in a chair, reading a magazine with his feet up.
“Ladies and gentleman, this rude individual is Franco.”
The camera turns back to see Joe.
“The ‘team’ he is talking about is CajoolZ and Chicken Lickin’ aka ChickenJoolZ. I’m not going to get into that.”
Franco walks into the picture, slaps Joe in the back of the head with the magazine, and exits the room. Joe readjusts his glasses.
“Like I said before, moving on past the Co-Op Day, we have the Cross-Hemisphere Day. The champion, Moss Edwards, walks in with a lot on his mind. Even though he now has assistants and other folks helping with his duties as Head of Creative, most people would say that his attention isn’t solely on the Cross-Hemisphere Title. He held on to the belt by the skin of his teeth at No Holds Barred and a re-focused Zane Scott will be determined to succeed where he failed last time.
Zane will have 24 hours to recuperate after his shot at the Co-Op Titles and whether or not he succeeds on that day could determine whether he walks out as champion on Day Two. A loss could hurt his morale and cause him to be demotivated and win could keep the steam going into his 2nd day and cause him to walk out a double champion. More on that later.
Out of the people in this match with something to prove, Calypso Desmona is at the top of the list. She held gold with Chris Peterson but has, to my knowledge, NEVER held any form of singles gold. She undoubtedly has the skill to capitalize on this opportunity but can she win the big one or will she continue to sit in the backseat?
Two people that have rarely even been seen.. could.. uh.. get the chance to.. uh.. nevermind. Moving on.
My pick for this match is Remi Monroe. Unlike Zane, where success or failure could determine how he does in this match, Remi can prevail either way. He’s been carrying his huge partner on his shoulders from the get go and this is chance to shove him off and replace that spot with some gold. Despite a hard fought loss to Ezekiel Pax at No Holds Barred, the Cajun Crusader has continued with his bravado and swagger and, in my opinion, will continue even more so after WrestleStock after wriggling the title from the grasp of the Wrestler Formerly Known as Prince.”
Joe reaches offscreen and grabs a glass of water, taking a short drink before returning it to its original place.
“With the sudden disappearance of Tyvola, the title picture for UGWC was unclear. That was until Phrixus Deimos won the Global Challenge and was crowned the champion. He was unstoppable at first but not nearly as unbeatable as Tyvola. Going in to WrestleStock, he has no constant threat at the title but he also hasn’t had a real challenge since he faced Alex Kiseragi at Rising Sun.
Don’t get me wrong, JK is a formidable foe but not for someone like Deimos. Toss him in the Cross-Hemisphere Day if he really wants to win some gold. He doesn’t stand a chance against the men he faces in this affair. He can kiss The Dragons ‘cave’ all he wants but when it comes down to it, JK can’t win the big one. He was even beat in the match he invented last year. The Cyclone will whirl in with his head held high but will waddle out with his tail between his legs.
The recent pairing of Donovan Hastings and Ezekiel Pax is a bit intriguing. The two could be a force to be reckoned with if they could be serious for a moment. Cue the Lance Storm jokes. Both men have held plenty of gold but seem to dawdling a bit. Donovan scored a HUGE win against Alex Kiseragi at No Holds Barred but where does he go from there? His focus on his Dungeon and that’s fine but training only gets you so far. And Ezekiel has amounted to pulling guest coach spots for Donovan while getting stuck fighting mediocre talent. Anyone remember his fighting Medos for a month last year? Damn you, Pierce. That was awful to watch. Put this two in the Co-Op Day and I’d bet my money on them but as far as this match goes, count these two out. Stoner jokes and pranks can only get you so far.
Alex Kiseragi may be the one to watch here but I don’t see him getting the ‘W’. The Year of the Dragon has been riddled with disappointment after disappointment. The fire inside seems to have been extinguished and rumor has it that if Alex fails to come on top, no pun intended, he may hang up his boots and head for the showers. And no, that’s not a metaphor towards his sexuality.
Speaking of Alex, ‘The Other’ Alex Stein is heading into WrestleStock with a head of steam after a destructive performance last month at No Holds Barred. This guy is huge so you can’t miss him but he will be the one to watch in 2012.
Imagine this folks. SnS win Day 1. Zane wins Day 2, even though I’m rooting for Remi. Stein wins Day 3. Abigail somehow manages to hold on to the Chaos Title. 4 titles, 3 superstars. Talk about domination. The Triumvirate of Terror could be the most dominant force in UGWC history, not like their have been many dominant groups so far.
Going back to the Chaos Title, rumor has it that one strong competitor may set his sights on the Chaos Championship if he fails on his own day. And it’s a man who claims to be the longest reigning Chaos Champion in history. Let’s just say that it may not be a peaceful weekend for Abigail Knight.
Well, folks, it’s been real, it’s been fun, but it hasn’t been real fun. My name is Joe and this was the WrestleStock Rundown. It’s going to be a long weekend for a lot of folks and best of luck to them.”
He salutes the cam as it fades out to black.
