AFTER SYNERGY
Zane strides through the halls after the end of the show. The blood on his face is starting to dry and crust on his head in a coppery color after the crowbar attack on him by Marek Daisuke. His eyes look intense, yet not angry as one would think that they would, and his mouth is pulled up into a sick looking smirk. The UGWC Cross-Hemisphere sits draped over his left shoulder and he occasionally looks down at it, causing the smirk to stretch ever so slightly. He walks with great confidence in spite of the nasty looking gash on his head, cruising through the hall like a man on a mission. He rounds a corner and a man walks up to him, holding onto something. Zane looks down at it with a smile.
"Excellent", he says. "It’s the souvenir that I wanted".
The man hands it to him with a nervous smile and then quickly makes tracks away when Zane lifts it up and smiles darkly at him. It’s the crowbar that Marek used on him at the end of their match and his blood is still wet on it. He pulls his hand up and runs it along the handle, rubbing some of the blood off of it with his finger. He lifts the finger up and sniffs it before licking it off with a smile.
"Don’t think that I'll forget Marek", he says. "I never forget".
"I also never forgive".
He stares at the crowbar for a few moments before lowering it.
"I have more important things to deal with than you at the moment. You can bet though that you’ll be seeing me again".
He lifts it up again with a pleased grin.
"Who knows...I may invite your friend here along for a visit".
He walks away, whistling to himself as the swings the crowbar back and forth.
A Few Days Later
"Jesus Zane, you need to bathe", Damarest says with incredible disgust in his voice. "You smell like someone gutted a Rhino and forced you to sleep inside the rotting remains for the last few days".
Zane looks up at Damarest with a dark glare and continues swinging the crowbar, practicing the motion. Damarest walks up to him and leans over, looking down at him in mild confusion and obvious annoyance.
"Are you listening Zane ?", he presses.
Zane looked up at him again, glaring out of the corner of his eyes before looking back down at the crowbar and resuming the motion. Damarest rolls his eyes in response and steps forward, leaning down and reaching for the crowbar when he’s interrupted as Spyder and Colin enter the room.
"We'll handle it Dave", Colin replies.
Spyder walks over to Zane and grabs his wrist on the back swing, holding it fast. Zane goes to forcibly pull his arm down but finds that he can’t get it to budge under his teacher’s grip. He lifts his head and glares up at him.
"Let...me...go", he growls through clenched teeth.
Spyder looks down at him and doesn’t budge, or slack his grip in the slightest. Colin walks across the room, which is revealed to be a large training space and bends over, pulling a refrigerator open. Zane and Spyder stand before a long table. Zane has the table adorned with multiple prop skulls. Most of the skulls are broken and have red liquid oozing from them.
Zane continues to try and free his arm from Spyder's grip and with each successive failure he becomes more and more enraged. Colin walks away from the fridge with a bottled water in his hand and tosses one to Spyder, who catches it with his free hand and slaps it down onto the table. He twists the cap off and flicks it onto the floor before picking up the bottle and taking a deep pull from it. He swishes it around in his mouth for a few moments and then turns around and looks at Zane.
"Don't", Zane growls at him.
A smirk pulls at the corner of his mouth and he swallows the water before laughing at Zane, who is noticeably not amused by it. Spyder picks up the bottle and takes another drink before unceremoniously throwing the remainder of the bottle into Zane’s face. Zane’s eyes widen in rage and a loud growl escapes from him. Spyder smirks at the reaction and Colin and Damarest both chuckle in amusement.
"At least he's a little closer to being clean now", Colin opines with a shrug.
The remark draws a glare from Zane before he turns back to Spyder and unceremoniously drops the crowbar. It lands on the table with a loud “clang”, nearly missing one of the remaining undamaged skulls. He looks over at Spyder, who releases his arm and walks over to where the crowbar landed, picking it up and tossing it to Colin, who catches it and places it in his lap. He turns to Zane and pats him on the face.
"That's better", he replies with a smile. "Sit".
Zane looks up at him before walking over to a nearby chair and dropping into it. Spyder walks over to the table and takes a look at the assortment of skulls before looking to Zane again.
"Practicing for something", he inquires. "It's not your match with Deimos and Monroe, because using that crowbar on them will get you disqualified".
Zane shrugs with indifference at the comment and a smirk spreads across his somewhat haggard looking face. Zane looks like he hasn’t slept much in the past few days as his eyes are slightly sunken and have dark rings around them. His face is covered by a few days growth and his skin looks a little gray.
"At least I'd still have my Championship".
Both Colin and Spyder shake their heads and roll their eyes in unison as Damarest grins. Zane looks from Colin to Spyder and back to Colin and shakes his head in amazement and looks a bit creeped out at his mentors.
"I hate it when you two do that", he says. "It's unnatural".
Both men look at him and smile before Spyder walks up behind him and cuffs him hard upside the head. The action catches Zane completely off guard and he almost falls from the chair.
"Stop being an asshole", Spyder says.
"We didn’t spend all of this time on you for you to resort to something gutless like cheating to retain your Championship. What happened to wanting to bring dignity back to it after Monroe’s less than..."
"Heroic", Spyder interjects.
"It'll do", Colin replies. "Championship reign".
"I hate how you two finish each others thoughts like that", Zane says, shaking his head.
"I admit that even I find that behavior to be a bit creepy"; Damarest answers.
"Yeah", Zane says, pointing at Damarest with his thumb. "He's not afraid of anything. The man has no conscience. He's a fucking sociopath".
"They get the point"; Damarest replies as he pulls out his favorite weapon and starts running his thumb over the blade of it.
"Always to the point, Dave", Colin says with a chuckle.
"No pun intended, right", Damarest replies with a grin.
"Who, me", Colin replies innocently. "I would never".
"The point Zane", Spyder says, returning the conversation to the point. "Is that for you to take a shortcut in order to win, while that is a form of strategy and one that has often been used in wrestling, also happens to be one that Spyder and I...as well as your Master, would be very disappointed with you for using".
"I'd still have the belt though"; Zane replies.
"Yes", Colin retorts. "And in retaining it in such a manner you would be no better than Remi. IS that what you want Zane ? If I recall correctly, you said early on after you won that Championship that you wanted to be better than Remi and bring dignity back to the Championship".
"Yes", Spyder continues. "As I recall, you accused Remi of treating the Cross-Hemisphere Championship like a "whore". Or am I mistaken ?"
"No", Zane grunts. "You’re not".
"Then, as Jim said, stop being an asshole", Colin says. "This match is the biggest of your young career. You are not only facing Remi Monroe, who for all his faults is still a fantastic athlete and wrestler, but you’re also facing Phrixus Deimos, who as you know is a master of strategy and head games. You are familiar with both and you’ve lost to both, so stop acting like a child".
"Exactly", Spyder adds. "You still have a lot to prove. In spite of everything that you’ve accomplished and all of the progress that you’ve made, the general belief is that you are still unfit for and very lucky to be holding that Championship. I like the intensity that you're showing right now, even if the scent that it’s imparted on you is more than slightly repulsive, but you have to keep it under control. If you want to keep that belt, you have to keep those two from getting into your head while helping them in getting into each others".
"Your best strategy is to let their animosity and acrimony towards each other rule the day", Damarest says. "You don't have to be smart, which is good because you aren't, but that's not the same as not being stupid either. Don't be stupid and play into their hands".
"Insults aside", Colin adds, "I know that you want to strike terror into everyone and just steam roll both men into submission. I think that you know that using such a strategy is fools errand that will bring you nothing but failure in the end. Show everyone who you are by putting your training and your sudden interest in tactics to good use. Whereas it's usually foolish to tell your enemy your tactics like this, the simple fact is that while both men are professionals, they also hate each other passionately and at some point every man's ego gets in the way of his good sense and overrides his self control. If you are willing to let them pick the tune, they will eventually dance themselves into exhaustion and defeat".
"I know", Zane replies. "I hate Remi as much as Deimos does. I don't like Deimos either, but I loathe Remi. The man is a narcissistic sociopath who doesn’t deserve to hold my Championship. Nothing would please me more than to keep it from him. Deimos is just collateral damage".
"Deimos is a statement", Spyder says.
"Yes", Zane replies, standing up and walking over to the table. "He is".
He looks at Colin, who tosses him the crowbar. He swings it downward and loudly demolishes one of the remaining skulls, sending chunks of it, as well as the blood simulant inside, flying all over the room. Spyder walks over and takes the crowbar form him, walking around to one of the remaining skulls.
"Your form is ok", he replies. "I would recommend striking here though"
Spyder promptly spins and swings the crowbar in an upward arc. It slams into one of the skulls at the part where the skull would meet the spine, impacting it violently and lifting it slightly upward before slamming it face first into the table. The face impacts and makes a loud crunching noise as the nose shatters and then the head bounces backwards and slams off of the table, splitting the fracture of the skull wide open and spilling the contents all over the table. Zane watches the entire process with rapt fascination.
"That", Spyder says as he thrusts the crowbar back into Zane’s hand, breaking his concentration. "Is how you use that weapon properly on someone’s head".
"Listen to the man, he is the master", Colin says with a grin as he stands up from the chair and begins to walk out of the room.
"Yeah, and you’re an amateur", Spyder says with a grin as the two men walk towards the door. "Now let's go get lunch".
"And for fuck sake Zane, take a goddamned shower", Damarest blurts.
The promo ends to Zane, Spyder and Colin laughing at Damarest’ rare loss of self-control as the four men walk from the room.
