SR: "And to think I thought I might never have to come here again. Now, twice in the same day."
She pauses before the hospital, looking up at the sign above her head.
SR: "Too many sleepless nights."
She sighs and shrugs to herself. She wears a pair of hip hugging jeans, a wide belt of white with two rows of holes, and two posts that fit into them, securing the belt in place. Her t-shirt is blue with dark green adorning the collar and the edges of the sleeves. Her watch is as usual on her right wrist. A small leather band adorns her left, an intricate pattern of colored beads that may or may not carry a significance. It is also a rare time for her to have earrings in, small light blue studs that you'd miss if not for light catching off of them, making a fetching flash. She kicks at the ground with her worn jogging shoes and, shoving her hands in her pockets, passes once again through the doors. She recognizes the nurse at reception.
SR: "Hello, Elise. How are the kids?"
The redhead looks up and smiles politely.
Elise: "Miss Seito. Interesting seeing you here. Did your friend forget something? I can check lost and found."
Risa smiles, shaking her head.
SR: "No. He's fine. I have another friend here. I came by and saw her earlier, but she'd just been medicated so I don't even know if she knows I was here. Last name Morgan."
The nurse smirks.
Elise: "Oh. With that weird whateveritis?"
Risa nods.
SR: "That would have to be Chadwick."
The nurse nods.
SR: "At least you know the visiting hours."
Risa waits and is escorted back to one of the privacy wings where she had been once before. She is passed off to the nurses station just outside of the corridor with Eden's room. This nurse she doesn't know, but she has the definite look of someone highly annoyed. She gives a number and points. Risa nods and, having followed protocols, pauses at the door and knocks. The door opens and Risa has to look up to see the eyes of Chadwick peering out at her. After a little convincing, Chadwick lets her in. She pauses near the door as it closes, looking at Eden. Propped up now in her bed, a glass of water on the table nearby and what looks like the Library of Congress of magazines piled around her bed.
SR: "I hope you left a path to get to the bathroom through that."
Eden looks up from a photography magazine.
EM: "Yeah. I got two of them, one for when I go and one for when I come back."
Chadwick hesitates, even whines a little when Eden asks to have a moment alone with Risa, but finally Risa notes to him that he looks like he needs a little air. She promises not to bother Eden or touch her. She hands him a twenty, directing him to a nearby tea shop to pick up some herbal teas that might be just what all three need. He still hesitates, but Chadwick finally departs. Risa leans on the door, exhaling to blow a bit of her bangs up.
SR: "I'm not going to complain about him. I envy him this situation."
EM: "Oh? How so?"
Risa walks over to a chair and pulls it around so she can face Eden and lowers herself into it.
SR: "When I'm looking over someone, they're usually not responsive. I've only had to do it twice. Only one woke up."
Eden quirks an eyebrow.
SR: "I came by a while ago. They'd just drugged you up with pain relievers. You were pretty gone."
Eden tilts her head.
EM: "I sorta remember something. I thought it was a dream. Either you there or it was Madame Razz."
Risa nods, smiling.
EM: "As long as it wasn't Shadoweaver. Like Orko's evil twin sister."
Eden gets a smile.
EM: "Normally I might chuckle at that. Right now, humor hurts."
Risa closes her eyes and nods.
SR: "Sorry. I'll try to keep it a little less comedic. I had come by to thank you for the notes."
Eden blinks, closing the photo magazine, tossing it haphazardly off the side of the bed.
EM: "Notes?"
SR: "Yes. The one you left for me at Synergy. In my locker."
Eden nods.
EM: "Yes, well. I left that to be delivered to you in the case you won. I had a feeling you would."
Risa nods.
SR: "And for the note about Ichiro."
Eden shakes her head.
EM: "I never sent any notes about him."
It's Risa's turn to quirk the eyebrow, tilt the head. Her brow also furrows.
SR: "It wasn't you? I got a note at my hotel that there had been some kind of threat made against him. I had assumed you would be the only one who gave enough of a damn to warn me."
Eden shrugs.
EM: "Probably, if I'd known. But I didn't. The only note I've sent is the one you found in your locker."
Risa leans back, she looks puzzled and perhaps a little troubled.
EM: "Something wrong?"
Risa nods.
SR: "Maybe. I will look into it. If you don't remember my visit, you don't remember me warning you about this week's Synergy?"
Eden smirks, fumes, takes a drink of water. Risa imagines the effect of the obvious heat in her eyes turning the water to steam, sending it gushing out of Eden's ears and nose. She manages to keep a straight face.
SR: "I see you found out somehow."
EM: "That bastard Zane. And Damarest."
Risa sits up, eyes wide and attentive.
SR: "They were here?"
She nods.
EM: "Don't know how, but they were. Only good thing about it was I got to see Zane's face. Made me feel a whole lot better about how I look."
Risa leans back in the chair again, the troubled look passing across her face again.
SR: "You did leave him in quite a mess. They had to send for an ambulance to take him out. Hadn't thought they'd bring him here."
She rubs at her eyes.
EM: "So, is Itchy free yet?"
Risa nods, her palms plopping onto her thighs.
SR: "Yes. He's been in perpetual motion for the last two days since he got out. He's finally resting. We got a party invitation. He wants to go. So he's trading me taking him and going along in return for being a good boy and sleeping."
Eden smiles, chuckles despite herself, wincing.
EM: "Dammit. I want to be able to chuckle again without it hurting."
SR: "I know a bit of how it feels to have him feel he needs to prove a point, but I never thought even he would do what I watched on the monitor."
EM: "I can just imagine. So what are you up to on this weeks card?"
Risa leans forward, scooting to the front of the chair.
SR: "Wish Chadwick was a little faster, I could use that tea. As for me, I have that Raenius guy. I assume it isn't a good thing when someone hands you a pre-order form for a casket."
Eden considers this not funny. Then she realizes Risa is being serious.
EM: "Do what?"
Risa nods.
SR: "Someone slipped a pamphlet under the door of my now old hotel room. Pre-order your own funeral. Normally I'd have been shocked, maybe even outraged. But after what I've seen the last few weeks..."
She lets that trail off.
SR: "It was nice to see the Consortium crawl out from under whatever rock they were under. I sent them a message and actually got a reply. I have a meeting with them on Monday, before Synergy. I have a few things I want to ask them. Non-confrontational. Probably the only thing all night that might have the potential to be pleasant."
Eden nods, sipping at her water again.
EM: "What does Ichiro think?"
Risa shrugs.
SR: "I haven't told him. He would severely disapprove of my reasons for talking to them. Probably wouldn't like what I want to ask either. But it has to be done. I have spent too much time over the last couple of months worrying about the health of people close to me. I need a distraction."
Eden opens her mouth, intending to ask just what kind of distraction the Consortium could provide, when the door opens and Chadwick enters. The box he carries looks like it should have a small cake inside. However, when he sets it down on the table and opens it, three elegant looking styrofoam cups steam within. Risa gives him a polite thank you as he hands her a cup. He fusses over getting napkins wrapped around Eden's cup, and waits until she is settled and comfortable with the temperature of the beverage before taking his own and settling into a nearby seat.
SR: "So anyway, that's where things stand. When I leave here I am taking the car down to the mall and doing some quick shopping. I need something to wear tonight if I'm going to be escorting Ichiro. I don't have much that is..appropriate."
Risa looks at her watch.
SR: "Speaking of which, I had better get moving. I have to take Ichiro to Friday's tonight, too. Glad I finally saved up enough to buy a used car. A Toyota made in Kentucky. Who would have known?"
She stands up, bowing.
SR: "It was good to get to talk with you, Eden. Chadwick, a pleasure. Keep keeping an eye on her. She's lucky she has someone like you to make sure she is well taken care of."
She gets a polite nod from Chadwick, who still seems to be deciding if he really thinks she can be trusted any further than he could through the Empire State Building. As for Eden...
EM: "We'll have to do lunch again soon."
Risa smiles to that.
SR: "Next time, pancakes are on me."
Risa slips out of the room, taking her tea with her. For some odd reason, Eden smiles for a few moments after Risa leaves, before she realizes that despite the visit, she is still, for now, cooped up in this room with the magazines. She duplicates Risa's bang blow and crosses her arms, settling back against the pillows.
EM: "Shadoweaver."
She snorts, but smiles a little. She sets the tea on the table and slides down, settling her head onto the pillows again, deciding to try catching a nap.
(Eden Morgan's conversation with permission. Kinda had to write Chadwick in. Hope just posing for him is good.)
