Cartwright: That’s a wrap!
It’s become that simple, hasn’t it? Going through the motions, checking off the list, wrap it up and sign off.
It’s not just the newscast. It’s been the approach to pretty much everything for most of this year, hasn’t it? Opie and I were so excited to be working together again after Horizons that we took our eyes off the ball. We became so lost in the expansion of the Network, the promotion of new endeavors, that we lost sight of what we originally set out to do with each other. We let ourselves go soft.
Cartwright: Another great show, Trav.
Pierce: You couldn’t have scheduled somebody, I don’t know, a little more significant for our Outlast show?
Cartwright: We were a little behind schedule after everything that happened at DragonCon.
Pierce: Whatever, excuses. I was planning on drinking that coffee, you know.
Cartwright: Then you shouldn’t have thrown it at Forewell.
Pierce: I don’t care what he thought somebody drugged it with, he shouldn’t have spat in it.
This is what we spend our time doing now. Should I really be surprised that we lost the Co-Op titles? Jet let himself get preoccupied with all this stuff with Jez, and I actually bought into Chadwick’s bullshit story. We’re better than this, at least we used to be.
Cartwright: You got a letter of apology from that Brandon guy from the ‘con, by the way. He says the staff didn’t realize you aren’t the Travis that is into that sort of thing.
Days away from my sixth Outlast, and I’m sitting here dealing with an interview with a lunatic and getting an apology from a nimrod because of what he wanted to do with his stupid rubber fist. An “I’m sorry” doesn’t begin to cover it on that one, by the way.
Pierce: Did I see Edie in here before?
Cartwright: Yeah, she wants to make a few adjustments to her set for this week’s Eden the Odds.
When I got into this industry, it was because I wanted to make a name for myself, and saw it as a stepping stone to move onto bigger things. Travis Pierce wasn’t going to be a wrestler. It wasn’t going to be as simple as just an “Entertainment Professional.” He was going to be an Entertainment Icon.
Trouble is, somewhere along the line I got good at this. I’ve been the World Heavyweight Champion. I’ve been on top. The forward step that makes the most sense isn’t one that takes me further from that. I want to get back to it. I need to get back to it.
Travis Pierce was not meant to be a first-day WrestleStock event. He is not supposed to be just happy to be here. Travis is supposed to be the headline, by which I don’t mean “The Headliner,” rather I mean THE headliner.
My name is on this building. This network is my creation. Yet I feel like I’m the bottom rung on the depth chart. It’s nothing against Opie or Edie. They’re family, and I’m happy for all that they’ve accomplished. It’s just time to remember what I have accomplished, and what I should be out there doing.
I’m not going to Outlast to stand there and look pretty while Jet settles his scores and Edie defends her title. This past week I hear a lot of chatter about “Travis.” After Monday night, they’ll be talking about how Travis is back. Not Travis Roberts, but the Travis Pierce that we’ve seen time and again, the force to be reckoned with that was the reason the Human Resources Department took UGWC by storm a few years ago, that was the innovator of the Piercing Media Network, that was the face of the Young Guns.
Cartwright: You okay? You look like something is on your mind.
Pierce: Don’t worry about it, Rob. That’s a wrap.
