Directly After Synergy:
“That sonofabitch!”
A loud crash is heard, followed by a shriek. Two more loud crashes come from within the door marked ‘The Vain One’, followed by inaudible yelling. The door slowly opens, and the camera zooms in. It is a scene that nobody thought they would ever see.
‘Vain’ Alan Wallace is shown standing in the center of his locker room, with nothing but shards of broken glass and pieces of frames surrounding him. Standing on the couch to the right is Vain’s main lady, Candi. And she looks absolutely petrified..trembling, her hand covering her mouth, as she surveys the damage that is in front of her.
“How dare he, Candi? How dare he, to thee?”
Candi slowly steps down from atop the couch, carefully maneuvering around the remnants of Vain’s three cherished full-length mirrors. Slowly, she moves over in front of Mr. Ego.
“Would you please calm down, Alan. You’re scaring me.”
Vain’s head snaps around, the look in his eyes like something out of ‘The Shining’, as he glares down at his soon-to-be wife.
“Calm down? You expect Vain to calm down? After what just happened?! You did SEE what just happened, correct?”
Candi nods in the affirmative, carefully searching for the right words that will bring Vain down from the ledge that he is precariously leaning over at this point in time. After a few moments of silence – and a few more moments of Vain’s stare burrowing a hole into her – Candi speaks.
“Yes, Alan, I saw what happened. But it isn’t worth losing your head over. It was one match..there will be others. You know that.”
“What Vain KNOWS is that he was screwed over. Screwed over by a man that was supposedly his friend. Where was >\/< before Vain began putting feelers out about his possible return to the company? ‘The Vain One’ will tell you where he was: working 12-hour shifts at the lumber yard, trying to make ends-meat after his gash left him with nothing. And he repays ‘Mr. Ego’ by attacking him when he wasn’t ready…and then has the audacity to pin VAIN?! How dare he, God dammit?!”
Vain looks like he is about to explode, and Candi looks like she’s had enough. Her timid demeanor suddenly transforms into something much harsher, much more angry, and in a flash she has slapped Vain across his face. Caught off guard, Vain rubs his cheek, as he seethes over such blatant disrespect.
“Just who in the hell do you think y…”
“STOP! Just STOP! Shut your mouth, and listen!”
Vain is shaking with anger, but he doesn’t say a word. Candi continues.
“>\/< didn’t blatantly screw you over, regardless of what you think. It was an honest mistake that he made while in a blind rage…that blind rage coming over him when he was coming to YOUR aid. So while you might be pissed off at losing the match, your anger is being directed in the wrong place.”
Vain attempts to interject, but Candi is having none of it.
“Alan, if you know what’s good for you, you will keep your mouth shut, and you will listen very carefully. You and I have been together for many years, and for that entire time, I have dealt with your many intricacies. I’ve put up with the attitude, I’ve dealt with the ego, and I’ve looked past your delusions, all because I love you. And it is because I love you that I am going to be perfectly honest with you.”
“For the last few weeks, ever since OUTLAST, there has been one major problem…one main reason why you keep coming out on the short end of the stick, in matches that you are more than capable of winning, against wrestlers that you are more than capable of beating. That reason?”
“You, Alan. You’re the reason.”
Vain’s facial features begin to soften, but he says not a word. He merely sits in silence, his head slightly lowered, as he listens to what he is being told.
“I’ve listened to you bitch and moan about how things aren’t going your way…how you’re being given the shaft by management…and how you are the best that this company has to offer. And you know what? Talent wise, you might be the best that this company has to offer. The problem is, you’re getting in your own way, in your quest to reach the top.”
“You suffered two losses at OUTLAST in the Main Event, but not just two losses. Two CONSECUTIVE losses. The match that you were supposed to use as a catapult to the top of UGWC, and quite honestly, Alan…you shit the bed. I’m taking nothing away from Eden Morgan at all, because she was a great champion…but she made you look silly. ALMOST as silly as you’ve made yourself look lately.”
“And tonight – a match pitting you against two great wrestlers, Phrixus Deimos and >\/<. If you had just gone in and let your wrestling ability speak for itself, there very well could have been a different outcome. Instead, just like the beginning of the Main Event at OUTLAST, your constant need for attention…and your constant need to stare at yourself incessantly…was your downfall.”
Vain attempts to interject once more, but is cut off again.
“I am not finished. As much as I am forced to listen to you talk…you damn sure are going to listen to what I have to say.”
Exhaling in defeat, Vain leans back on the couch, allowing Candi to continue.
“Everyone knows that you’re Vain, Alan. You had it all when you first took the wrestling world by storm. The looks, the ability, the demeanor…you were indeed ‘Mr. Ego’, or whatever other moniker that you wanted to go by. But beyond all of that, beyond all of the posturing and arrogance, it was your wrestling ability that propelled you to those heights, and that was what you loved more than anything else – going out and embarrassing people with your skill in that ring. Everything else was just an added bonus.”
“Since you’ve been in UGWC, you’ve had everything ass-backwards. And THAT is the very reason why you are not having the success that you thought you would have. Focus on what’s important – focus on wrestling – and everything else will fall into place.”
Candi yanks her purse off of the sofa and walks towards the door. Turning, she looks down at Vain.
“When my words have finally sunk in, and when you understand what I am saying to you, I’ll be at the hotel. I love you, Alan, but you really need to get your priorities straight.”
With that, Candi disappears through the doorway, leaving ‘Vain’ Alan Wallace alone with his thoughts.
Scene fades.

Wednesday Evening:
The scene opens to the set of ‘The Vain Vault’. Instead of production assistants running to and fro, and instead of the seats in the audience being filled to capacity with screaming Vainomaniacs…instead, the place is empty. Well, empty except for one person that is leaning against the talk show hosts desk.
A man that has been well-known throughout the industry for years, yet a man that has a look of uncertainty upon his face…
A man that has more titles to his name in a mere few years in the business, yet a man that looks worn down over not winning a simple match…
A man that has been known by many names over the years, yet a man that really doesn’t know himself anymore.
‘Vain’ Alan Wallace.
As the camera zooms in, he looks up, the look of arrogance normally on display replaced by a look of determination. He speaks.
“Vain has been many things over the years, but humbled had never been on that list. At least not until Candi read Vain the riot act a few days ago. And after thinking about it long and hard for the last couple of days, ‘Mr. Ego’ has come to one conclusion.”
“She was right.”
“Vain has lost his sense of self, allowing the inconsequential to completely override what matters most; and that is to perform at the highest of levels in the ring. Since being back, Vain had attempted more to make his name off of what he had done in the past, and less off of what he is doing in the here and now. And the losing streak that ‘Yours Truly’ currently finds himself in is the perfect testament to that.”
“Don’t get ‘The Vain One’ wrong…he knows that he’s still the most handsome man this company has ever seen, but now, he’s set to prove that he’s also the best wrestler that this company has ever seen. And that will begin this coming week, when Vain takes on Donovan Hastings, in what will be Mr. Hastings return to UGWC after the vicious assault at the hands of Zane Scott, which almost led to Hastings retirement from this industry.”
“Vain will be the first to admit that he doesn’t know much about Donovan Hastings, so he had to do his homework when he heard that he was booked against ‘The Lord of Pain’ this coming Synergy. And what Vain found during his scouting mission was rather impressive. Simply put…Donovan Hastings is the real deal.”
“He has been one of the main stars in three different companies: The Lock Wrestling Federation; Global Impact Wrestling; and the Unified Global Wrestling Coalition.”
“He has beaten the very best that the wrestling industry has had to offer during his illustrious career.”
“And he has won a grand total of 11 championships during the course of his career.”
“For a man of his stature, simply coming back would be sufficient in and of itself. Alas, he’s coming back with vengeance in mind, and a score to settle in his heart. And rightfully so, in Vain’s honest opinion. The last time that Donovan Hastings was seen on UGWC television was back in June, at ‘In Your Hands’, when he faced off in a grudge match of epic proportions against our reigning UGWC World Champion, Zane Scott. To say that things went badly for ‘The Lord of Pain’ would be a huge understatement.”
“During ‘In Your Hands’, he was pummeled mercilessly by Zane Scott, enduring more punishment than any one man would normally see in a lifetime. And while Mr. Hastings dished out almost as much punishment as he received, in the end his knee was shattered with a steel chair, and he was unceremoniously pushed off of the stage while strapped to a gurney. For him to come back after an attack of that magnitude speaks volumes about the heart and determination that he has. For that, he is to be commended.”
“Now that he is back, he has his eyes set on redemption, as he looks to seek a measure of revenge when he faces Zane Scott in a World Title Match at BATTLEGROUND. And for his first test after being sidelined, he has been scheduled to take on ‘Mr. Ego’ this coming Monday, on Synergy.”
“Most fans might view this as a squash match. ‘The Vain One’ has been on a bit of a losing stretch as of late, and Donovan Hastings has extra motivation to dispose of Vain quickly, so that he can go on to participate in his very own ‘Clash of the Titans’ at BATTLEGROUND. But Mr. Hastings should be very wary of possibly overlooking ‘Arrogance Personified’.
“Vain has heard that you are coming back a much different fighter, Mr. Hastings. That’s a good thing, because the Vain that you will be squaring off against this week isn’t the Vain that has merely just shown up in recent weeks.”
“This Vain, like you, is more focused.”
“This Vain, like you, is more determined.”
“And this Vain, like you, is hell-bent on making up for past transgressions.”
“On September 30th, 2013, ‘The Lord of Pain’ Donovan Hastings makes his long awaited return to the squared circle, and standing in his way is none other than ‘Vain’ Alan Wallace. And while ‘The Vain One’ has nothing but respect for what you have accomplished in this industry, know one thing, ‘Lord Hastings’: your road to BATTLEGROUND runs through ‘The Money Maker’, and Vain would love nothing more than to spoil your grand return to UGWC.”
“So prepare yourself for battle, ‘Lord Hastings’…because your King awaits you. And on Synergy, Vain will not be relinquishing his crown. Instead, he will be squashing the uprising of the former ruler, and cementing his own legacy as the greatest to ever live.”
“Destruction is imminent, ‘Lord Hastings’. Such a pity that your grand return will be marred, when you once again are unceremoniously cast aside by someone that is your better.”
“See you on Monday, my Lord.”
The scene fades.
