Victoria Jenson stands impatiently at the entrance of Travis Roberts' beach side property as eD cASe paces and flaps his arms around her.
eD – 'I really can't say anything else...'
Vix – 'Do you really think I'm going to stick around indefinitely for a man who's already half an hour late when you won't tell me what he wants.'
eD – 'It's not my place to divulge his business, he asked me to get you here so I did.'
Vix – 'I don't know what world the two of you exist in, but it's not 2008 any more, the world no longer revolves around Travis Roberts.'
And right on cue 'The Headliner' himself comes walking through a pair of double doors to the side of the room, swinging them open as he dries his wet hair. Vix glares in his direction.
Vix – 'You're late.'
Travis – ''The Blessed One' lost track of the time whilst working out in his gym, Travis is sure you understand that with Battleground around the corner 'The TWiSTeD Icon' needs to ensure he is in peak condition.'
Vix – 'That's not much of an apology.'
Travis – 'What does 'The Headliner' have to apologise for?'
Travis looks genuinely puzzled before his eyebrows slowly rise and he nods his head.
Travis – 'Of course you wouldn't understand what it's like to have an event of the scale of Battleground on the horizon and all the opportunities it brings with it. Travis often forgets that not everyone leads the same life as him, and for that 'The Blessed One' will apologise, Travis Roberts is sorry you're not more like him.'
Victoria can't believe what she's hearing and stands speechless.
Travis – 'But that's why you're here today, opportunity. You're smart enough to know you can never be like 'The Most Influential Icon in Sports Entertainment this Millennia', but you can gain a lot by being in his presence.'
Vix – 'That's a very diminished presence nowadays...'
Travis – 'Really? Then why else are you standing here? Why else would Chaos feel the need to comment on my social life? 'The Blessed One' is still the name on everybody's lips, his return is still the biggest story in the industry, despite Zane claiming the World Title about 2 years past the date he should have matured to that stage, and Donovan making a return to the company he should have dominated during 'The Headliners' elongated hiatus. Everything else pales in comparison to the intrigue surrounding what Travis Roberts will do next.'
Vix can't help but chuckle. eD at this point is slowly removing himself from the room, very slowly edging his way towards the double doors to make an escape.
Vix – 'The only reason people are still talking about your return is because no-one quite understands why you came back! You've managed to look both gormless and smug at the same time, a feat that I would never imagined possible. Of course people are interested in you, just like they are Miley Cyrus...you're a car crash waiting to happen, and people can't look away from that shit!'
It's at this point eD finally slips away, he was in Travis' vicinity the last time Victoria decided to stand up to him and he wished he'd had made himself scarce on that occasion. However if eD had hung around this time he would have been surprised to see Travis smile at Vix's response.
Travis – 'That's another reason you're standing here, your stubbornness, your fight. You see 'The Blessed One' is surrounded by people who only agree with him, people that wouldn't challenge anything that comes out of 'The TWiSTeD Icons' mouth. These are clearly very educated people, they know there's no point spending time arguing with Travis Roberts only to realise they are wrong. You on the other hand, are too young and naïve to understand that the world works that way...'
Travis now starts to pace thoughtfully around the room.
Travis – 'You have focus, and drive, but more importantly than that you don't take shit, even from someone who is clearly more intelligent than you. That's the kind of thing 'The Blessed One' needs right now...'
Victoria has visibly loosened up now and is doing her best not to smile, this was the moment she'd been hoping for when she got the call before Outlast, this is the reason she let herself get involved with Nate again, she'd taken a big risk but it was about to pay off.
Travis – ''The Blessed One' would like you to meet someone you'll be spending a lot of time with in the near future...'
This just kept getting better, Blessed Immortality would be reuniting on Synergy, clearly Travis wanted her to meet the newly returned Donovan Hastings to discuss future strategy, two legends for the price of one, she'd hit the jackpot.
Travis – 'Captain!
Victoria had never heard anyone refer to Donovan as Captain, let alone screamed at him in such a manner, she knew both men were close but never expected to here Travis' voice ever go so high pitched.
Travis – 'Cappy!'
And she couldn't quite get her head around the sound she could hear, was 'The Lord of Pain' running excitedly down the corridor in a pair of floppy sandals to the sound of Travis' voice? Nothing was making sense, but then the answer came bounding around the corner and through the doors.
We cut to Travis who has a huge smile on his face and his arms open wide.
Travis – 'There he is!'
Running, slobbering and panting through the door comes a very happy Bulldog, Travis lowers himself to his knee's as the dog launches into his arms. Travis cradles him and stands turnign to face Victoria who is standing open mouthed.
Travis- 'Victoria, ;The Headliner' would like to introduce you to the newest member of the TWiSTeD Family, Captain Bastard.'
Victoria is dumbfounded, she hadn't experienced such a fast swing from excited hope to desolate despair since her Senior Prom, and she wasn't quite sure what was happening.
Vix – 'But...why?'
Travis – 'Because he's a beautiful specimen, much like 'The Blessed One' himself, plus 'The Headliner' has never had a pet....'
Vix – 'No...I mean why did you want me to meet your dog?'
Travis – 'Because 'The Blessed One' can't be home all the time, and Cappy here cannot come everywhere 'The Headliner' goes. Travis can't very well leave him with eD, in his own words; to Captain Bastard he's a “Animated Chew Toy”. So he needs someone to keep him company, and it's not like your calendar is overflowing with bookings.'
Victoria can't believe she's still standing in 'The Headliner's' home, but yet here she is, and she finds herself entertaining his reasoning.
Vix – ' You want me to what? Be your dogs Nanny?'
Travis – ''The Blessed One' can only imagine what's going through your mind now, this could change your life beyond your wildest dreams, but it also comes with great responsibility, you must be so fearful that you could upset 'The TWiSTeD Icon', but Travis Roberts has faith in you.'
Travis now walks over to Victoria and hands her Captain Bastard, she instinctively cradles the animal, not wanting to drop him on the tiled floor, and he thanks her by licking her all over her face.
Vix – 'But what made you think I'd be suitable for this.'
Travis – 'Like Travis Roberts said earlier, you don't take shit from anyone, even if they are more intelligent than you. And believe 'The Headliner' when he say's there will be a lot of shit, Cappy hadn't been house trained yet. You should probably get on that...'
And before Victoria Jenson can really process what has just happened Travis waltzes out of his house leaving her with his newly acquired Bulldog.
Vix – 'Shit.'
A room with a group of journalists, a podium flanked by two flags, one the Stars and Stripes, the other The UGWC logo. This set up can only mean one thing, Travis Roberts' first Press Conference since returning to UGWC. 'The Blessed One walks through the curtains and is tasken aback briefly by the fact the room is only half full, this is something he is unaccustomed to, but he takes it in his stride and walks up to the podium and motions to someone in the first row.
Journalist – 'Barry Townsend from WrestleTalk.com, welcome back Travis, you've been back in the industry for around a month now, why have you been so reluctant to make any media appearances? Have you been worried by the lacklustre response to your return?'
Travis – ''The Headliner' has not been 'reluctant' to do anything, Travis Roberts lives in front of the camera's, the spotlight is oxygen to 'The Blessed One. However considering the public had been deprived of 'The TWiSTeD Icon' for close to three years, in which time The Piercing Weapons are widely acknowledged to have been the most entertaining aspect of this company, it was felt that the audience simply weren't ready for the bar to be raised quite so quickly. '
The journalists raise their hand in unison and Travis selects the next questioner.
Journalist – 'Rebecca Richards, Pro Wrestling Enquirer, as you said it's been nearly three years since you were last in the ring, what are the most striking changes to the business you've noticed since returning?'
Travis – 'Rebecca, it's a different world, it really is. The question isn't what has changed, because so many things have been turned on their heads, the real question is whether 'The Blessed One' is surprised what he has returned to? And the answer to that is no. Travis Roberts foresaw the depths this business, and this company in particular could end up languishing in, and that's why he made his exit. But in leaving 'The Blessed One' hurt this industry more than he could have ever imagined, when he walked away he left the future of this business in the hands of the likes of Jet Somers, Phrixus Deimos, Alex Kiseragi, the Beta Travis, Ezekiel Pax and 'The Cylclone' JK. When Travis Roberts left the defence of this industry from the onslaught of the window lickers he set in motion the events that led to the state we find ourselves in now. As 2010 drew to a close 'The Blessed One' didn't see a challenge in the industry, now the entire industry is the challenge.'
Travis points to another male journalist.
Journalist – 'Pierre Le Fondre, GrapplingWorld.org, you've always talked the game Travis, and in the past you backed that up in the ring, your two outings so far in UGWC have been unimpressive, getting g yourself counted out and then acting like a comedy character in a children’s play pool. Why should we take this return seriosuly, if you will not.'
Travis – ''The Blessed One' had nothing to gain from either of those matches, and Travis Roberts has the ability to look at a calendar. Battleground has always been around the corner, why would 'The Most Influential Icon in Sports Entertainment this Millennia' risk his chances of winning it for the second time? That's one of the problems these days, people want instant gratification, 'The TWiSTeD Guerilla' has always thought two steps ahead of the crowd. These past few weeks Travis Roberts has just been reacquainting himself with old surroundings, but in just over a week at Battleground you'll know just how seriously you should take this return.'
Journalist – 'Fiona Westen, Turnbuckle Time Blog, this coming Synergy you'll be teaming with Donovan Hastings for the first time in years. However backstage sources suggest your relationship is not in the best place at this moment. If true is this because Donovan resents you leaving in the first place, or are you disappointed he wasn't more successful in your absence?'
Travis – 'Donovan wouldn't have been human had he not felt negatively about losing 'The Blessed One' as an ally, but their has never been any resentment. And how could 'The TWiSTeD Icon' be disappointed in Donovan's achievements in his absence, after all Travis Roberts' absence left him handicapped in the war of attrition this place had become, week after week dealing with the various window lickers and the charismatically devoid would have finished a lesser man, just managing to get out of bed and come to work should be considered a success not a failure. Context is important in these things.'
Journalist – 'Gerald Bowker, WhoGivesAShitNews.org, so what are your thoughts on your opponents at Synergy, they are the current UGWC Cooperative Champions, given you and Donovan having teamed together in so long, would you consider yourself outsiders for this one?'
Travis – 'Probably, honestly what is in this for us? Neither of us are interested in the distraction of competing against hastily cobbled together teams of people who have nothing better to do on a regular basis, and given the only possible motivation is to highlight what a mockery the entire division is Travis Roberts would imagine The Devils Most Wanted representatives might have a little more to fight for. After all, if they lose to us they can hardly lay claim to being the companies premier Cooperative team can they?'
Gerald follows up on his question.
Gerald – 'But what about Cypress and Chaos? What are your thoughts on them both as they are just some of the new faces you will encounter over the coming months.'
Travis – ''The Headliner' tries not to think about them too much, otherwise the DMW and SoA story lines start to bleed into one another. In honesty 'The Blessed One' doesn't know a great deal about the two of them, they're clearly tough sons o' bitches, but you'd have to be to repeatedly bend over and let Dirge and his associates have their way with you. They seem to take great pride in doing the jobs Zane and his goons deem to be beneath even them, which suggests they lack some of the values many deem essential, such as dignity and self-respect.'
Journalist – 'Rebecca Richards again, both men have made quite the impact in a relatively short amount of time since joining, is all this posturing because you are worried that they represent the future of the industry and this company. The fans clearly react to their brand of entertainment, it could be said that you are worried that Synergy could expose just how out of touch you are and your trying to make excuses before you've even failed.'
Travis – 'The fans will react to anything they're told to react to, how else can you explain the fact Deimos is considered a main event draw? As for their 'brand of entertainment', Travis Roberts doesn't see anything new or special. 'The Blessed One' was forming 'clubs' with rules and honor systems before FX even knew who Charlie Hunnam was, 'The Headliner' was looking good in shades and leathers before this millennia even began, and Travis Roberts has been singing the 'Jet Somers is shit' song since before they even knew who Jet Somers was. However 'The Blessed One' has never felt the need to be responsible for, implicated in, or even in the general vicinity of a violent crime or murder to be entertaining, all 'The Blessed One' needs is a camera and a microphone.'
Journalist – 'Glenn McAvoy, Pro Wrestling Insider, lets cut to the chase, are you confident that you and Donovan can win on Monday.'[/font]
Travis – 'Can we win? Yes. Will we win? Travis Roberts has been in the industry long enough to know you can never make a statement like that, what I can tell you is that Blessed Immortality has faced many a team and come out on top. Maybe you should go and ask Cypress and Chaos if they're ready for what they are about to face? Spending most of their existence in UGWC feuding with The Piercing Weapons could well have made them forget what real opposition looks like. From what 'The Blessed One' has heard Cypress is more focused on 'The Headliners' movie career, which ended before he fell into a coma in the mid 2000's, than anything he achieved after he returned in the latter part of that decade, because whilst Travis Roberts was possibly the worlds worst actor with the worlds worst agent, when it came to the ring he was the polar opposite. For all we know they haven't had time to even think about Blessed Immortality, they've more important things to focus on, like amassing an army to take down a three man empire.'
The journalists hands shoot up, but Travis waves his hands.
Travis – 'That's all the time your getting today, if one of you doesn't manage to win the sports journalism equivalent of The Pulitzer prize after this you need to reconsider your careers. eD will be at the exit to greet you with your commemorative goodie bags, have a safe trip home, and try not to get too depressed at the realisation that your careers are unlikely to ever top this moment, try to enjoy the pinnacle while it lasts.'
And with that Travis turns from the podium and disappears behind the curtains.
eD – 'I really can't say anything else...'
Vix – 'Do you really think I'm going to stick around indefinitely for a man who's already half an hour late when you won't tell me what he wants.'
eD – 'It's not my place to divulge his business, he asked me to get you here so I did.'
