eD – 'Are you sure you know what you're doing?'
eD cASe asks his client, Travis Roberts, whilst they both sit in a beach side bar. Travis takes a sip on his Mojito and looks over his aviators at his long time agent.
Travis – 'Despite your propensity for asking stupid questions 'The Blessed One' is nonetheless surprised you feel the need to ask.'
eD – 'No, you're right, what could be questionable about teaming up with Dirge? It's not like this man played a very large part in the destruction of GIW or anything...'
Travis smirks and shakes his head at his agent.
Travis – 'You seem to be forgetting we welcomed the death of GIW, and used it to bring about UGWC, Dirge and his contacts proved useful, they brought drama and excitement to the proceedings, and in this industry that is what matters.'
eD – 'You can't seriously trust him?'
Travis – 'Do you think 'The Headliner' is a fool? Trust is a fantasy in this business, but 'The Blessed One' knows exactly what he's getting with Dirge, he's never hidden behind a false façade, one thing interests him, and one thing only...power.'
eD – 'But why didn't you confide in me, I am your agent.'
Travis – 'You're also the man who lost half his agency to Nathan Specter, forgive 'The Headliner' for not trusting you with sensitive information.'
eD – 'Are you sure you're not rushing in to this. I know you want to help Donovan anyway you can, but was him becoming World Champion worth rushing in to a deal with the devil?'
Travis almost chokes on a mint leaf from his Mojito and splutters in response to eD's question.
Travis – 'Rushing in? When have you ever known 'The Blessed One' to rush anything. Despite the picture some try as hard as possible to portray 'The Headliner' as an impaired buffoon, that simply has never been the case. If anyone out their thinks all this was a last minute scheme to put the Championship on Hastings they're going to continue to be surprised as the weeks and months progress.'
eD – 'Then what is it about?'
Travis – 'Fixing the industry.'
eD – 'If you hadn't noticed it's been pretty healthy of recent.'
Travis – 'How so?'
eD – 'Well for a start the company has been breaking records consecutively since Outlast...'
Travis smirks once more.
Travis – 'Remind 'The Headliner', when was it 'The Most Influential Icon in Sports Entertainment This Millennia' made his return?'
eD – 'Even you can't have enough of an ego to suggest your the reason for the success?'
Travis – ''The TWiSTeD High Commander' has never believed in coincidence let's just put it that way.'
eD – 'You're really going to disregard the rest of the roster?
Travis – 'Why not? The majority of them disregard 'The Blessed One' on a regular basis, and that highlights the problems inherent in this industry.'
eD – 'That they don't worship at your feet?'
Travis can't help but chuckle.
Travis - 'Hardly, 'The Blessed One' is hardly Donovan Hastings, that's never been an ambition. But since 'The Headliner' returned to this company he has been called 'washed up' and a 'has been' on an almost weekly basis by numerous members of this so called illustrious group of athletes.'
eD – 'I still don't see how that's a problem? This industry is built on trash talk and belittling your opponents.'
Travis – 'That's because your head is full of fluff, literally, and you've never had the ability to see the big picture. Let 'The Headliner' ask you a question, if 'The Blessed One' is a 'has been' what does that make them?'
eD – 'I guess they would say they are the reason UGWC didn't close down last year, that they are the reason there was a company for you to return to, and that they changed the landscape for the better, they represent the present and the future.'
Travis – 'Really? So what does it say about them when this old washed up and irrelevant fossil of the past returned and won Battleground and the Global Challenge consecutively? On two separate occasions 'The Headliner' bested a host of them in the space of just one night, despite his irrelevance to the industry, despite almost three years out of the ring.'
eD – 'They might say you got lucky, at least the second time.'
Travis – 'You make your own luck in this industry, they should all know that, but that's the problem. It's one thing to save a company from dying and another to make it truly great. Who was going to do that? To take this company to the very top echelons of this industry the bar needs to continually be raised, expectations need to be exceeded, new standards need to be set each and every PPV. And if you look at the evidence, only one person has been doing that consistently since he returned, and you're lucky enough to be sitting opposite him right now. But no matter how truly phenomenal this 'Has Been' is, he can't so it alone.'
eD – 'I'm not sure I agree, siding with Dirge is as risky as it gets.'
Travis – 'Why? Because he'll point blank refuse to sycophantically slap 'The Blessed One' on the back and would never dream of being part of self-indulgent circle jerks? That's not a flaw if you ask 'The Blessed One'. Look at the end of 2013, what did the landscape of this industry look like to most observers? 2014 was expected to lie in the hands of the DMW and the PMN. The Devil's Most Wanted have displayed on more than one occasion that their quaint 'club', and all the foolish exploits it encompasses, is their primary love. The PMN focus their time on ensuring the world sees more of Pepper Phoenix. Whilst they were slapping one another on the back and looking forward to what the new year brought, the new friendships they could strike up, and ignoring the fact their crowning achievement was bringing a serial killer back into active circulation, do you know what we were doing?'
eD – 'Evidently not.'
Travis – 'Concentrating on the industry. Whilst the success of their 'Network' and 'Motorcycle Club' are what drives them, we're all about taking this business to the next level. 'The Blessed One' has no interest in stealing the show at PPV's that don't sell out, 'The Lord of Pain' doesn't want to hold a World Championship for a company that's biggest stars are more interested in how their make up looks on camera than actually competing for titles, and 'The Great Evil' wouldn't even want his gardener associated with a business that relied on drunken bikers to generate creativity.'
eD – 'Let me get this straight, you stand side by side with Dirge to save the company?
Travis – 'Exactly, despite their many obvious flaws and deficiencies this roster is not beyond saving, they just need the right people to pull their strings.
eD goes a paler shade of yellow but has nothing moire to say, which is music to Travis' ears.
Meanwhile in a Tree house not far away....
Forewell Boding and The Natural Born Killer, 'The Weapons of Mass Deduction' sit in Forewell's base, a child’s tree house, and when we say sit The Killer is crouching, his arms around his legs and head leaned to the side as it crushes against the roof. Forewell however shows remarkable flexibility and manages to sit cross legged on the floor.
Forewell – 'Monday night presents a great opportunity for us.'
NBK – 'Yes we anticipate it greatly, The Screams shall dance once more...it feels like an age since we tangoed...or waltzed...with the Screams of another...'
Forewell – 'That's great, but don't let your desires and emotions cloud your judgement, there are more important things at stake.'
NBK – More important than the dance?
Forewell shakes his head.
Forewell – 'I feel for you friend, I really do, and one day we will banish your pain from you, but we cannot do it when they are still lurking in the shadows, we have to focus on uncovering them, and when we do we shall be able to search for a cure...'
NBK – Cure?
Forewell – 'Of course, they're must be a way to rid you of your pain...'
NBK – 'Yes...'The Dance'...this is not Television...this is who we are...'
Forewell waves a hand dismissing his partners comments.
Forewell – 'Monday presents us with an opportunity to get one step closer to reaching our goal.'
NBK – As long as there will be pain and violence involved.'
Forewell – Yes plenty, but hopefully mostly for our enemies.
NBK – 'We do not mind who's, for the Screams will dance within the pain, they will be silent and I shall have peace.'
Forewell – 'Well I'd like to experience as little of it has possible, but I am well aware that Monday is a night worth getting hurt on.'
NBK – 'Why?'
Forewell – 'Because it provides us with an in. You saw what happened at Infinity, somehow Dirge has got his claws into Travis, and it's going to be up to us to save him and get to the bottom of this, and the only way to do that is from the inside, are you ready to be a double agent?'
NBK considers this for a moment.
NBK – 'Do I still get to...hurt people?'
Forewell – Yes, and maybe more than you have for a long time if everything goes to plan. We need to get close to Travis, Donovan and Dirge, and it just so happens the man they possibly pissed off the most is the leader of the DMW, and our opponents this week are members.'
NBK – 'And if we hurt them we'll be inside...'
Forewell – 'Not quite, Travis and his associates won't take us seriously unless we consistently show ourselves to be a true force to be reckoned with, we need to dominate anyone who sets foot in that ring with us, otherwise they'll think we're a joke.'
NBK – So...you want 'The Killer' to do most of the heavy lifting?'
Forewell – 'Well yes, you're the brawn and I'm the brains. I didn't think you'd mind. We have to play to our strengths.'
NBK – 'We don't see that as being a problem....'The Screams' will gladly take the greater share of punishment...it's why we're here.'
Forewell – 'great we're on the same page, and lets ensure we keep it that way. The prize is great, if we infiltrate this new alliance, not only may we be able to save Travis, but it's possible I could get access to Dirge's vast empire and it's data...'
NBK – 'The Killer has no interest in stocks and shares...'
Forewell – 'This isn't about the financial markets, they're a very small part. I'm sure I've spoken to you of the 'Great Coconut Shortage of '09', the 'International Koala Smuggling Ring', or the career advisor’s that recruit for them...even 'The Rubix Cube Murders'. Do you know what they all have in common? The trail goes dead at one of Dirge's many 'investments', he's professional, he knows how to cover his tracks, the only way to get some of the most important intel any man could ever see, is to get inside.'
NBK – 'Can we ask something?
Forewell – 'Of course, but you realise anything above Category 3 information will have to wait until you receive clearance...'
NBK – 'Dirge is very rich, correct?
Forewell nods.
NBK – When we get 'in', before you expose him could you do something for us?'
Forewell – 'What?'
NBK – 'Get him to build us a bigger base'
eD cASe asks his client, Travis Roberts, whilst they both sit in a beach side bar. Travis takes a sip on his Mojito and looks over his aviators at his long time agent.
