In the bleak nothingness that is a darkened screen, slowly the ever growing in popularity words etched in white begin to appear.
“The following is a Syndicate production, paid for by Bryson Enterprises”
A montage of various scenes begin to flood the screen with sights of classic uCw moments, all revolving around the once lead interviewer of the epic wrestling fed that put so many on the map. Only made more dramatic by the opening theme song for uCw Tuesday Night Havoc, Godsmack's “Keep Away”. Various scenes of past backstage interviews with the likes of Klaus, Dirge, a masked Cypress Morgan as The Boogeyman, Chaos, “The Grinning Reaper” Carnival, Mickey Dragon... and Raenius. The video ends with a scene of a jam packed crowd, the echos of “UCW...UCW...UCW...UCW!!!”
As the video, and the chants fade away, our scene comes into being. A simple background of shadowing reds, cascading shades of white over black. In the middle of it all, center of the scene, a large flat screen mounted to the wall, reflecting a revolving “Glasses” logo. Before the television sits a massive silver non-reflective desk adorned with two white laptops laid open, two table-top microphones, and various Syndicate related merchandise including but not limited to an “I'm an Eden Morgan Guy” shirt hung from the front of the desk, accompanied by a Killian King “Better Breed of Badguy” shirt and other Syndicate swag. Sitting behind the computer to left of the scene we find none other than the voice of Universal Championship Wrestling, and Play by Play Icon... Glasses. To his left and our right one of of the current UGWC Co-op Champions, Killian King. His championship belt is displayed in front of his computer on the desk.
Glasses: Welcome everyone and thanks for joining us for our premier podcast, also available for viewing on The Bryson Video onDemand option with a monthly subscription. First of all, if you've been living under a rock since a wrestling fed took over the internet... my name is Glasses and my guest at this time is none other than “Her Majesty's Most Beloved Grappler”... Killian King.
Our camera pans over to find Killian King, viewable from the waist up in a white collar shirt, the first several buttons undone to reveal a swarthy expanse of chest under a black sports coat. Killian rocks back in the large plush office chair, nodding to the camera, before wrapping his hand around a bottle of water and sipping from it.
Glasses: I'm gonna go head and put this out there... this is a no-malarkey interview. We're going to discuss some issues that break down the boundaries of kayfabe and everything in between... so let's get this started. It’s almost like kayfabe has died. Back in the day, even in uCw you would watch the product in the ring, and whatever happened in the ring that’s where you got your heat from. Cypress, then known as Boogeyman, took the title, and he held the heat. But now if the story doesn’t go the way people want, they’re mad behind the scenes at the writers. They lash out at the people “behind the scenes”... How do you handle that? The reactions with Eden... The PMN storylines?
Killian: Times changed... Just telling a story and people accepting that storyline for what it is, as a storyline, is gone. A large portion of your audience just buys into that. Another large portion of your audience... who thinks they know everything that goes on every five minutes of every day. They're the ones that grow to hate us... Everyone pays their money and they're allowed to hate whoever they want. I've always enjoyed heat, it makes me a better villain to get that reaction, the same can and will be said for Eden... The hate for Eden, the hate for us... it just goes to show how good we are at what we do. First of all let me set the record straight: Everyone involved knew what was going to happen at Sin City... save Jet, and that was done for pure reaction. Jet Somers is one of the best “feels” guys in the business, so to get that “over” with the audience, he couldn't know. I don't think Zane knew everything, and by that I mean I don't think Zane knew until Wallace and I walked into the office, and they said “Ok... here's the new PMN.”
Glasses: So you're saying right now... Pierce knew?
Killian: Travis knew... Rumors backstage were that he was gonna be the one to go heel and turn on them... but from what I understand, he didn't want to commit to the heel angle. For whatever reason he turned it down and Eden picked up the ball.. and she bloody fucking well ran it down the field. The fans forget... where the storyline ends our real lives begin... They know more about what’s happening sometimes than we do. And I think you get to a point where they just want to go the opposite direction. They want to see a certain thing, or they think a certain type of thing is what works. But it's not their call, it's ours. We told a story... we made you feel something, even if you hated us for it... and they still do, the wounds are still fresh... but it's a story. We did our job... and Eden did it better than anyone.
Glasses: With all of this going on, is Kayabe dead?
Killian sipping his water, gives a shrug.
Killian: Is it? What's the reality of it? The rumors? The dirt sheets? What do you want to believe? You have pictures out there of me and Eden, next thing you know the internet explodes and her and I are dating.
Glasses: Are you?
Killian: Are we? You ask me if kayfabe is dead... and then you ask me to pull back the curtain. The fans pay the money, they buy the shirts, the hats... that's on them. I could tell you yes... or no. But you have the fans who believe what they want to. There were guys backstage who thought Pierce was her guy, they all-out believed it. That's on them. That's their call. Pay the money... believe what you want. I’ve read the fan fiction. You still writing any?
Glasses: I can neither confirm nor deny such... I was backstage with you guys when the bosses came in and said Vain's picking up another title... and he's also going to hold the HSW title as well. At that point what are you thinking?
Killian: Excited... Alan deserves everything he gets, and some he doesn't. He's put his time in and he deserves everything he has. He's a sodding work horse... and he busts his ass when others won't. Now I have no doubt, word's gonna come down this weekend. I don't see us leaving with all the titles... but for the record, he deserves it. The same can be said for Zane Scott.
Glasses: Exactly... This is a business where sometimes you got a portion of the crowd that feels like he hasn't earned that at all. So when the finish went down the way it did … he ended up getting the heat out of that, and the resentment from the fans because they were mad at the writing staff..
Killian: Again... and it seems whenever we find ourselves in the midst of a debate, we find “The Syndicate.” No. There’s a lot of ideas, backstage. We choose what we think will be best at the time, but he’d be the first guy to say in private that he doesn’t know what he's going to do with the title just yet. But he’s got a pretty damn good track record, if you ask me... he deserves it. In my mind he should have never lost it to Cypress, or the rematch should have seen a different ending... no one got that chance. The way I see it, that title was never Cypress' to lose, and it's not that Hastings, Jet, and Remi didn't deserve it... because they absolutely did. Eden was brought on the scene to save the credibility and she did a smashing job. Like it or not... she's one of the most talented people on the roster today, yesterday... and I think she will be for some time to come. I would say the same for Donovan and Monroe, but they were renting space on Zane's championship. He busted his ass for it, he put in the time for it and he got fucked. No it wasn't supposed to stay like that, and word has it Cypress was supposed to drop the strap back to him in a rematch, but end of the day Zane's your champion. No one deserves it more than him.
Glasses: It’s such a catch twenty two in this business... It seemed like for a time, people really wanted Eden Morgan, and they were given everything else. Eden played her cards right, wins a shot at the title... and cashes in. They demanded Eden but when they got her as a heel, the people got a little hot under the collar. You seem to have hit it right on the head when you said “whenever we find ourselves in the midst of a debate, we find “The Syndicate.” Why is that?
Killian: When we don’t tell the story well, be it bad writing, bad execution, whatever have you... people don’t buy it. Especially when they “know” the reality of it. There that word is again... the quote unquote known... what they think is the reality behind it. When you look at what we did from a storyline aspect, we always... and I mean always get a reaction from the fans, the people behind the scenes...we wrench the feels from you. Years ago, you just follow that storyline. “Oh, he must be good, he won at the end of the match.” This new fan base says “no, they’re pushing this bloke. I don’t want them to push him or her.” But that's their verbal right to say so... again, that's fine. But how about giving these people their just dues because they busted their ass, not because they won another title, or they turned on one of your favorites. We're heels, that's what we do, and “The Syndicate” does it better than anyone else.
Glasses: How does this translate to say... the locker room?
Killian: The same thing... we get a mixed reaction. There will always be a general heat for whomsoever is on top of the mountain. Vain's collection of championships... Right now Zane has the spot light and a mass of people have their knickers in a twist. There are those who are screaming about how Klaus was the rightful number one contender... how KvK should have been next in line for that shot. The good news is he still is! No one is holding back anyone is this fed... you get exactly what you give.
Glasses chuckles briefly.
Glasses: I've known Mr. vonKnorre for years, and for part of that time, he was the first ever uCw Universal Heavyweight Champion, and mind you.... he won the inaugural title under similarly questionable circumstances.
Killian: I recall watching the situation from the outside, I hadn't crossed over to the states yet, but I was already friends with Alan at that point. I recall saying how ballsy of a move that was... but with all the rap they gave him, Klaus earned the title, no matter how he got it. Do I think he has it in him to do it again? Absolutely... Do I see it happening? Negative. It's Zane's time to shine. And all I can hope is that the fans see that, and think about it, and take a step back. Is he the one you want to win? Maybe
not... But does he deserve it? Abso-fucking-lutley.
Glasses: Next up... Killian, Id like to throw out some names... and you respond with the first thing that comes to mind.
Killian: This could get brilliant...
Glasses: 'The White Knight' Bryan Bryn Bryson
Killian: Greatest in-ring performer ever. He's a fucking legend.
Glasses: Alan 'Vain' Wallace
Killian: Greatest all-around performer. He's a brother...
Glasses: Eden Morgan...
Killian: Classy as fuck... To me, the most underrated mind for the business, and storylines. She’s very blunt with people, she just says what she thinks, and if you don’t like it, too bad.
Glasses: Phrixus Deimos...
Killian: One of the most underrated performers in the ring. A brilliant in-ring psychologist.
Glasses: Zane Scott...
Killian: Respect... he's an animal. He's got so much potential that he's still yet to tap.
Glasses: Cypress Morgan...
Killian: Icon... but that makes him a target in my book.
Glasses: Klaus vonKnorre.
Killian: Another time... another place, we could have been allies. But I've seen what he does to his friends... He has no place for talking shit to Eden about backstabbing.
He's just as good at it.
Glasses: Jet Somers
Killian: Unbelievable technician. Maybe sometimes he takes himself too seriously. When he comes back... I look forward to crippling the poor bastard.
Glasses: Pax...
Killian: Sod off...
Glasses: Was that your answer or a request?
Killian: You choose...
Glasses: I guess this brings me to my wrap up... This week, Mainstreamer... and the man now known as Dave Rydell. When the match is over, who do you see walking away with everything?
Killian pauses for a moment.
Killian: I respect Martin for what he's done. I respect his storytelling, and I respect his ability to switch his style and make himself a name again. He didn’t wait for anyone to do it for him. He didn’t bitch backstage. He made it happen. The same can be said for Rydell... The time came for it... he evolved. They evolved... and that’s the nature of our game. If it doesn’t work for you, change... try something new. This weekend we're in a match, that's never been done before... something that has never before been witnessed. We plan on tearing the arena apart... and I feel for anyone who has to follow that. Mainstreamer and Rydell are coming for the brass ring. But, that brass ring still belongs to myself and Wallace. At the end of the night... “The Syndicate” still puts the asses in the seats, and when they're packaging up merchandise to send back to the office, they wont have to ship any of ours, because like every show we attend, it'll be sold out.
Glasses: Sadly... that's all the time we've had for tonight. I’ve enjoyed this immensely. Good night.
Killian: Good night.
Scene fades.
