Location: Austin, TX, Ed Leonard’s Office…
Fading in on Dave Rydell, he is sitting in the office of his manager, Ed Leonard. The two are just sitting there, laughing, chuckling, what have you, about stuff.
Ed: So, I’ve been hearing a rumor that you’ve signed up for this thing called Battle Mania? What is this?
Dave: It’s some company’s inter promotional battle royal with thirty people. I took it as a good way to get UGWC some exposure, maybe get some fresh faces in there. But now I’m taking it as a chance to step my game up.
Ed: How so?
Dave: I don’t know these people. Well, I know two of them.
Ed: You do?
Dave: Yeah, remember the Cyclone?
Ed: Jordan King?! Of course I do. Funny story about his father…
Ed is cut off by Dave’s hand going up.
Dave: Another time. And you know how I love your stories.
Ed: Who else is in the match?
Dave: Eden Morgan…
Ed: You’re kidding?!
Dave: Nope. And when she found out JK and I were in it too, she about shit a brick.
Ed and Dave just chuckle for a moment.
Dave: But honestly, I’m here to just shoot the shit. Everything that’s been happening to us over the past few months, let’s just put it on hold for a little bit.
Ed: I suppose we could. Besides, you’ve got some things to focus on. With the Streak and now this battle royal. So what are you going to do? What’s everyone saying?
Dave: Well, from what I’ve seen, people are just going on and on and on about nothing. They sound like robots using promo’s from other wrestlers who have been in 30 man over the top matches. “I’m gonna throw him out, then him out and argh! I’m gonna be king of the battle mania!” And dumb s**t like that. The only thing I know for certain, is that I’m going to go out there and bust my ass to win this thing. It’s going to be one hell of a career boost if I can take out 27 people I’ve never met, and 2 people I actually know, and 1 who has just been the biggest thorn in my side.
Ed: How’s that whole thing going?
Dave: Eden and her stooges are just exactly that. Zane thinks he’s tough, but he is just another poser.
Ed: And King and Wallace?
Dave: That’s a discussion for another day.
Ed: Understood. But we will need to talk about that soon enough.
Dave: How about after the Melee?
Ed: Works for me. If all goes well, I’ll have a surprise for you.
Dave’s eyebrows raise.
Dave: Do I want to know?
Ed: It’s best to just wait.
Dave sits back and just relaxes.
Dave: So, listen. These guys and a few gals, and Eden, are in this thing. And they’re all talking about how this is their legacy and what they need to be content with their careers. They’ve been doing this for so many years, and blah blah blah. The fact of the matter is, when all of us get into that ring, years of experience don’t matter, title reigns, win loss records, all that crap doesn’t matter. What matters is that moment in time, where you can achieve victory, and be the last man standing above all these other promotions. Be the one to take out the competition and show them why you and your company are the absolute best.
Dave pauses for a moment while Ed gets up. Ed walks over to the mini bar and pours himself a glass of scotch. He looks at Dave and offers him one, and naturally Dave accepts.
Ed: What about you? You’ve had a successful career. You’ve made quite the name for yourself. And then you changed it.
Dave: Yeah I know, but it needed to happen. Imagine me coming over here with that name… I would be asking to lose this match.
Ed: Not necessarily, a name is a name. It doesn’t represent skill or achievement. All it is, is what people call you. It’s a label. Only you know the true power you have, and they won’t know until they’re hit with it and it’s too late.
Dave: I suppose you’re right. Anyway, I’ve got to get going. I have a few things to take care of and then I’m leaving to go to the next town for Synergy.
Ed: Are you meeting Martin there?
Dave: Yeah, we’re staying at the same hotel.
Ed: Alright, well listen. Take care and I’ll see you around. I’ve got a lot going on.
Dave: I know, I get it. But if you pull that stuff you pulled on a me a few weeks ago, ever again, I’ll have to kick your ass.
The two laugh and shake hands.
Dave: Take care Ed.
Ed: Bye now.
As Dave leaves, Ed shuts the door and locks it. He walks back over to his desk and sits down. He pauses for a moment and then picks up the phone, dialing some numbers.
Ed: Michael, we need to find him soon. Keep looking. Do whatever you need to do. Things are in motion.
Ed hangs up the phone and sips his scotch. He looks over and sees that Dave didn’t even take a sip of his. A look of frustration overcomes his face.

Just as Dave Rydell has received his room key for his hotel room, his pal, Martin “The Mainstreamer” Graber walks in with his bag, about to check in.
Dave: Hey man, what’s up?
Martin: You’re here early.
Dave: Just wanted to get settled in.
Martin: Are you really going through with it?
Dave: What?
Martin: Battle whatever it’s called?
Dave: Yeah why?
Martin: Well, Eden. You heard her on Synergy. She lost her shit.
Dave: I know, that was great.
Martin: Well, yeah, I guess. But remember what we are going for at the end of the month.
Dave: I didn’t forget. Hey, let me go put my stuff away, give me a call when you’re settled in, we will go grab something to eat.
Martin: Sure thing.
Martin goes to check in, while Dave heads to the stairs to go to his room.
*****38 MINUTES LATER*****
Dave and Martin are walking outside the doors of the hotel lobby, and heading to grab some food.
Dave: Why all the sudden concern for me and this battle royal?
Martin: We have a lot riding on the line with this streak of success.
Dave: I know. I haven’t lost sight of it. And we still have our title shot.
Martin: For now.
Dave: You don’t think we can hold on to it?
Martin: I just don’t think focusing on other things right now is the best idea.
Dave: And you focusing solely on Wallace and your hatred for him was the best? Please. I’m focused. I’m good. This is just a one night deal. I fly in, compete, win, and fly out the next morning.
Martin: If you say so, but still.
Dave: Look man, it’s something I have to do.
Martin just looks on as they continue walking.
Martin: What’s going on with you and Ed? You guys seem to be a little, off the same page.
Dave: I’m not sure. He’s up to something, and I don’t know what. But it’s worrying me. He’s too secretive. But, he usually has a solid endgame. Hopefully whatever he is doing is for the betterment of the team.
Martin: Team?
Dave: You, me…really?
Martin: Right. Well, yeah. Just don’t leave me hanging. It’s happened too much before.
Dave: Bro, I got you. We’ve got the streak, we’ve got our own ventures. Me winning Battlemania is going to help put us both on the map. And I won’t take any of the recognition without you involved.
Martin smirks, and the two continue walking down the sidewalk.
Martin: So what makes you think you’re going to win?
Dave: I’ve got a secret weapon or two on my side.
Martin: Care to share?
Dave: Not really. But the same weapon is going to help us in our title hunt.
Martin nods as Dave just continues to walk. New scene.

Location: Dave Rydell’s hotel room…
Fading in, Rydell is sitting in the hotel room’s designated “comfy chair” facing the open window, as rain pours down over the city. He just watches as lightning flashes and thunder crashes. He sips his glass of rum, just looking.
Dave: What’s your point?
*silence*
Dave: Look, I will admit, without you I would have never made my way to the main event scene. But that is still in the past. About 6 years to be exact. What could you possibly want from me now?
*silence*
Dave: Seriously? I didn’t sign up for this battle royal to win it for your selfish desires. I did it to better me. Not you, me. Why won’t you ever just die? Go! You ruined the life of one of the greatest in ring competitors in history, a legend. And now you’re coming after me, to ruin me.
*silence*
Dave: I don’t care. I can win it on my own, and I can win those tag belts with Martin. We don’t need you. I don’t need you.
*silence*
Dave: No, leave him out of this. If this is really what you have been wanting all along, then take it up with me. But he doesn’t deserve this. I will eventually be rid of you for good. The Hero got rid of you, I can too.
*silence*
Dave: I don’t care. Until he showed me what was happening, I hated him. I hated everyone. I wanted to rip them all apart.
*silence*
Dave: …You’re right. I suppose I am lost. I suppose I am just missing something. Perhaps we can work something out? But you MUST follow the conditions.
*silence*
Dave: No, the only way I’ll allow you back in, is to follow the rules. No more free reign. No more full on manipulation. I need some control. I need to have control, not be controlled. It’s the only way.
*silence*
Dave: Fair enough. First, we win this streak of success, then, the CoOp titles, the Massive Melee, and then Battle Mania.
*silence*
Dave: Why wouldn’t I be able to? I’ve had streaks like that before.
*silence*
Dave: So what if I’ve never won a Melee? And if you think about it, part of my legacy is within those tag belts. I’m a 3 time LWF Tag Champion, which unified into those belts.
*silence*
Dave: Regardless. Battle Mania is going to be my boost to immortality. Nothing is going to stop me. Nothing will slow me down. And with your help, I’ll be unstoppable.
*silence*
Dave: Yes, even with the conditions. Now, let’s get to work.
Scene change.
Date: 17 March 2015
Time: 2208
Location: Unknown…
Fading in, we see Dave Rydell standing on a rooftop, overlooking the busy streets of a popular city. Where? We do not know. He overlooks, watching as the masses parade through the streets, drinking away their hard earned money in the form of green beer and liquor. Today, in their minds, they are Irish.
Dave: Every year, in every major town and city across the continental United States, these people, and many others like them, waste their time and money. They set themselves into a group of a stereotype. Wasting the time, the money, the energy, and living a life created by society. Living a life created by the hallmark geniuses we never see. They celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day by getting obliterated drunk, and regretting decisions the next day.
Dave pauses, pulling out his can of Copenhagen. He packs it a few times and puts a nice sized pinch in his bottom lip. He puts the can back in his pocket and takes a breath.
Dave: Don’t get me wrong, I love my rum. I enjoyed my time as a bar owner, and I wouldn’t trade my memories for anything. I have lived this life, I have wasted my days and months away looking for the bottom of a bottle. I have been there. So I don’t judge to harshly, but I have seen the light, so to speak. I have been “saved” from the expectations of the media and society. This nation is now run off of a bullshit set of expectations because that’s what the producers and big wigs in Hollywood say we should do. We’ve become a very impressionable society and we are slowly going down the toilet. Which brings me to the 29 others involved in Battle Mania. How many of you are guilty of falling to the expectations of this world we live in? How many of you are the selfish swine that makes up the way our nation is run? How often do you lie to yourself and say that isn’t you? I’ve admitted to my part in all of this. When will you?
Dave pauses and spits to the side. He goes over to the ledge and sits, still somewhat overlooking the edge down at the street.
Dave: As I sit here and speak these words, you sit there and deny it all. You sit there, and tell yourself that you are better than them, better than me. You aren’t. You are just another stepping stone on my way to the top. You are nothing to me, except a way to solidify my legacy.
Dave chuckles for a moment.
Dave: It’s funny. Everyone goes through life, trying to find themselves, getting lost so many times along the way. They think they have it figured out, and they think they know. But no one truly knows. Well, not everyone. I know. I found my way. I found my calling. And I am on my path. I am going to solidify my legacy. I will be etched in stone, forever, at the winner of Battle Mania, and as one of the greatest competitors of all time.
Dave pauses for a moment. He spits one more time.
Dave: You all fabricate these stories, these scenes, these situations, as if you lived in a reality TV show. You create these scripted events, making yourselves out to be this badass person that can do anything. You find the biggest and toughest, and create a scenario to where they can’t harm you. Reality check! No one is immortal. No one can withstand anything. You aren’t the best and brightest and you are not, by any means, the best in the world. I will prove this very fact on April 3rd. I will prove to you all, and the world, that the single greatest moment anyone can achieve is solidifying their legacy. No matter how many championship reigns you have, no matter how many wins you have as opposed to losses. It’s a matter of willpower and skill. Working within your means, and staying at the top.
Dave pauses. He stands up and paces for a moment.
Dave: I’ve fallen down the ladder, and hit the ground. I picked myself back up and made my way back to the top. I challenge all of you to take a look at yourselves. Do you know what your legacy will be? Do you know if you will be remembered by all? Or will you fall into obscurity and nothingness? I won’t allow that to happen to me. Grow a set of balls and make your own shit happen.
Dave pauses, and walks back over toward the ledge. He peers over and sees the masses still parading through the streets. He just looks on, shaking his head. After a moment, he turns his back to them and starts walking to the other side of the roof. He reaches the roof access and opens it up. Before getting in, he turns back around.
Dave: My legacy is being written. It will tell the world all they need to know. And come April 3rd, I will show all of you what you need to know. Not that this is some Jerry Springer knock off reality show we live in, but that this is the real world. I will show you that there is life after death. Very few things are inevitable. One of them is that I will gain my immortality. I will gain my eternal bliss and live in the burroughs of history forever. And in seventeen days, you will all bear witness to the greatest moment in our world today. Bring your sunglasses, because it’s going to be one hell of a sight.
Dave climbs into the roof access and pulls it shut. As the ambience of the music and cluster of people in the streets is heard, the camera pans up to the moonlit sky, making it’s way until the moon is in full view. The full moon lights the night sky as the camera fades out to black. End.
