MEXICO CITY -- The son of a Mexican wrestling legend died early Saturday from a blow suffered in the ring, the Baja California state prosecutor's office said.
Pedro Aguayo Ramirez, known as Hijo del Perro Aguayo, fell unconscious on the ropes, apparently after receiving a flying kick from fellow wrestler Oscar Gutierrez, known as former WWE star Rey Mysterio Jr., according to video of the match in a municipal auditorium in Tijuana.
The match continued for almost two minutes before other participants and the referee realized Aguayo was seriously injured and tended to him.
He was taken to a hospital a block away and died about 1:30 a.m., prosecutor's spokesman Raul Gutierrez said.
The state prosecutor's office said it has opened an investigation into possible manslaughter. The company that reportedly organized the event, The Crash, couldn't be reached for comment.

From what I have heard the kick knocked him out, when he hit the ropes as he should for the 6*1*9, he was unable catch himself and whiplashed, breaking his neck. That's what I have heard I have not gone searching out the video.

So if I read that right, he killed a guy with the 619? The worst move in wrestling?

From what I hear, the guy didn't take it properly. Like, there were a number of little things that contributed to the death, not just the 619. That was just, obviously, the flashiest event that occurred.

The dropkick to the back caused him to whiplash. Rey went for the 619 and noticed the guy wasn't going to protect himself and missed the move on purpose. It was a freak accident that's for sure. The landed proper and everything. His head just happened to snap back and it caused him to have a stroke and it killed him.
Very unfortunate since Mysterio has probably done that kick thousands of times.

Rey Mysterio delivered the drop kick perfectly (in my opinion) and the bump looked to be taken correctly, The 619 was clearly missed on purpose and Rey alerted the ref. I blame partialy the fact that there was no medical staff around the ring, possibly the moving of the victim after the accident, but in that situation what would any of us do? Yes I posted the video, but it was so you can form your own assumption, not to gleefully show someone's death. In the case of Owen, the video wasn't an issue. I've never actually watched it, as I feel no need to. Yes my heart goes out to his friends and family, but my sympathy also goes out to Mysterio. He'll carry this around for the rest of his life. I hope everyone in this situation finds peace.
