Rain falls outside the GIW arena. Calypso pulls a hood over her head as she walks through it, looking flustered. She glances around in the darkness, and pulls out her cell phone and holds it to her ear, when a voice behind her speaks, causing her to jump.
Voice: I told you we shouldn’t do this again.
Calypso: Cain…
Calypso turns to face Cain Dolan, who stares back at her, his hands in the pockets of his trenchcoat.
Dolan: This is dangerous, Calypso. I warned you before, Hastings will discover your actions.
Calypso: No, he won’t.
Dolan: You of all people should know better than to underestimate him.
Calypso: There isn’t going to be anything to discover.
Cain stares at her, his face betraying nothing.
Dolan: What are you talking about?
Calypso: I can’t do this anymore, lying to him, sneaking behind his back…I just can’t do it.
Dolan: What do you mean?
Calypso: I mean I’m done. I won’t do it anymore.
Dolan: What has he done to you?
Calypso: Nothing, he…nothing. He hasn’t done anything to me.
She looks away.
Calypso: Nothing bad.
Dolan: Then why give up? Why throw away what you’ve worked so long for?
Calypso: Because I’d be throwing something else away.
Cain hesitates a moment.
Dolan: I don’t understand.
Calypso: I was angry at Donovan for what happened a year ago. I wanted to punish him for what he had done, but these past few months…he’s a person that I hadn’t seen in a long time. It was like getting back with an old friend. I don’t know if it was the time apart that healed a rift, or something that happened while he was on the road with Peterson, but he’s different. He’s better.
Dolan: You’re still worried about Peterson.
Calypso: Donovan trusts him, I’ve no doubt of that, and it’s something I haven’t seen before. He wouldn’t admit it, I’m sure, but he considers him a friend. Sooner or later, Donovan’s going to listen, and I can’t let that happen to me.
Dolan: I told you, he can’t stop us.
Calypso: And I told you, I’m done. Don’t you get it? I don’t care about hurting him anymore. I don’t want to.
Dolan: You…you don’t mean to leave.
Calypso: No.
Dolan: How…interesting.
Calypso: I’ve woken up beside him every night for months, and I realized how much I missed it. I feel his arms around me, his touch on my skin, and I know how much I need it, how much I can’t ever lose it again. I won’t lose it again.
Dolan: Hm.
Calypso: I see him scheduled in six man tag team match up against Dirge, needing to rely on people like Jet Somers and KvK as his partners, with all the madness going on with Malise and this CaRNiVaL, and I want to do whatever I can to help him and protect him. He’s preparing to face Roberts for the title at Horizons, and I want to be at his side when he holds that championship above his head, because I know in my heart that he is going to win it. I let myself be left behind once before. I won’t do it again.
Dolan: Sounds like you’re pretty sure about this.
Calypso: I’ve never been surer about anything in my life. I have a lot of work to do, still…but I’m going to do it. Everything is different now. I’m sorry.
Dolan: You shouldn’t apologize for how you feel.
Calypso looks away and nods her head slowly. She starts to leave, but she stops and turns back around. Cain has not moved.
Calypso: I appreciate everything you did. You were a good support, a good friend…one I needed. Maybe…maybe some day I’ll see you again.
Calypso pulls the hood up over her head and walks away. Cain watches, unmoving.
Dolan: Sooner than you think.
He turns and walks away, disappearing into the rainfall.
Voice: I told you we shouldn’t do this again.
Calypso: Cain…
