Calypso is finishing up preparing her gear before her match with Malise. She turns to see Cain Dolan standing in the doorway.
Calypso: You don’t knock?
Cain hesitates a moment, but he enters the room.
Dolan: I thought maybe we should talk. Where’s Donovan?
Calypso: He’s been drawing up the schematics with Owen.
Dolan: Oh, are they? That should be good stuff, he’s never attempted something on such a large scale before.
Calypso: Get to your point.
Cain nods his head.
Dolan: I imagine you’re a little upset.
Calypso: Did he know?
Dolan: What do you mean?
Calypso: Was Donovan behind this the whole time? Did he have you set me up?
Dolan: No…no, of course not.
Calypso: Why should I believe you?
Dolan: Because you want to. Donovan and I go way back. I owe him debts I can never repay. Getting you back to him is probably the best I could ever do. He doesn’t need to know what I did to get you here.
Calypso: Right…
She turns her back on him.
Calypso: There’s just one problem…
Last Week…
Peterson: Let me make sure I understand all this…
Owen stands with Donovan and Cain.
Hastings: Go for it.
Peterson: While you and Calypso were estranged, while you and I were travelling together, you secretly had your friend from years ago, Cain here, meet with Calypso and coerce her into a vengeance plot against you. Under his guidance, she returned at your side with the intention of building you up and tearing you apart, motivated by how you broke her heart a year ago.
Hastings: Pretty much, yeah.
Peterson: Except that once she was at your side every day again, Calypso fell for you all over again.
Hastings: To be fair, I’m treating her a lot better.
Peterson: Yeah, okay. How can you be sure she is done with her plot?
Dolan: She came to me and wanted out of it, said she felt guilty about what she was doing and didn’t want to take a chance of ruining the relationship again.
Peterson: Right.
Hastings: You disapprove.
Peterson: Why didn’t you tell me?
Hastings: When it all went down at Toxic Intent, we were no longer aligned.
Peterson: That was your choice!
Hastings: Well, she needed to believe that I was all on my own again.
Peterson: You let me rejoin you though.
Hastings: It made her position precarious, she had to tread lightly. Slowed down her plans, gave me time to work my magic.
Peterson: You still could have told me at that point!
Hastings: It’s a lot easier to make her believe you’re standing in her way when you actually are.
Owen glares at Donovan.
Peterson: You’re a cold, manipulative bastard.
Hastings: And that’s inconsistent with my past behavior…how?
After a moment, Owen looks away.
Hastings: Stand aside or stand apart.
STARE DOWN!
Cain leans between them.
Dolan: I don’t think that actually made any sense.
They both look at him.
Dolan: Sounded good, though. Good line, I liked it.
Owen and Donovan look at each other again.
Hastings: You get the point.
Peterson: I do.
Owen looks down at the ground for a moment before looking back at Donovan and answering him.
Peterson: I’m with you all the way.
Today…
Calypso: There’s just one problem…
Calypso turns back to Cain and glares at him.
Calypso: I’m sure he wouldn’t approve of you having slept with me to earn my trust.
Dolan: If you tell him we met before I showed up last week, you’ll bring us both down.
Calypso: I don’t trust you, I don’t trust why you’re here. If you really just want to support Donovan, to come along for the ride while he wins the Global Championship, then what’s past is past. I’ll face Malise tonight. Donovan will put all this drama with Raenius and Carnival and their respective associates to rest, and we’ll move on, one happy family, to Horizons. But if you cause even the slightest problem, the smallest blip on his radar, I’ll make sure he reminds you why he’s displaced you as the “Lord of Pain.” Do I make myself clear.
Dolan: Crystal. You won’t be disappointed.
Calypso steps past him to leave.
Calypso: It’s a bit late for that.
She leaves, and as he is left alone, Cain lowers his head and slowly nods it.
Calypso: You don’t knock?
