The scene opens to show Simon Wellington seated on a black leather sofa, leafing through an edition of 'The New York Times', as he intermittently takes a sip from the bottle of Deer Park water that rests on the end table to his right. In the middle of the room is 'Vain' Alan Wallace, pacing back and forth, something obviously on his mind. Simon looks up from his paper, a smirk on his face.
"Something I can help you with, Alan?"
Vain doesn't stop. In fact, he doesn't even look at his friend and advocate. He does, however, respond.
"I cannot believe that I allowed that to happen, Simon. How could I have not been better prepared?"
Simon chuckles as he picks up his bottle of water.
"I just assumed that you were fresh out of the good stuff, Alan. Which is why I'm currently less than enjoying such filth."
Vain stops, turning to look at Simon in confusion.
"Pardon?"
"We were speaking about your less than stellar abilities at playing host today. What, with the selection of refreshments, and all."[/i]
"Did you fall and hit your head on the way over here, Simon? What in the hell are you talking about?"
"Your choice of providing me with… Deer Park, of course. Wasn't that what you were referring to, Alan?"
"I… we… no. Not at all. I am speaking about what happened on Synergy, you twit. You honestly thought I was speaking about your water? Christ man, get it together."
Simon begins to laugh, as he places the bottle back on the table.
"Calm down, Alan. I was merely, how do the kids put it these days? Trolling you? Is that the term?"
Vain stands there flabbergasted.
"You were… trolling… me? After everything that occurred on Synergy? With everything that I have in front of me at Infinity? You've resorted to a half-assed troll attempt, in order to what? Be funny? Was that the end goal, Mr. Wellington?"
Simon folds his newspaper up and places it on the middle cushion of the sofa, before rising to his feet, his hands in the air making a calming motion, as he steps towards Vain.
"Look, I'm sorry, Alan. I was attempting to use humor, in order to lighten the mood. You have to admit, it was completely out of the ordinary for me to do such a thing."
"Dammit Simon, I need you to focus. What Dave Rydell did on Synergy, how could I have not seen that coming? And to think that, the looks on the faces of the crowd as I stumbled to the back… it was as if they expected it to happen. Have I fallen so far, that Dave Rydell leaving 'Vain' Alan Wallace unconscious in the center of the ring is to be considered normal behavior?"
"Alan, he attacked unprovoked, when you had more pressing matters to worry about. There was nothing you could have done about it."
"Oh, but the old Vain wouldn't have had to worry about doing something, Simon… because the old Vain wouldn't have allowed it to happen in the first place. Maybe… sigh…"
"Maybe what, Alan?"
Vain stands there, for the first time, looking Simon in the eyes. His eyes begin to glisten, growing watery as he seemingly looks into the soul of his advocate.
"Maybe Dave Rydell has passed me by, Simon. Maybe… maybe I have officially found my own niche within this industry, with that niche being below Dave Rydell in the pecking order of this company."
The two men stand there in silence, as a single tear begins running down the cheek of Alan Wallace. Astonished, Simon finds himself at a loss for words, attempting numerous times to speak, but failing to find the words each time."
"Alan, I… you know, you… see, I…"
Simon, who had taken to staring at the floor as he attempted to find the words, looks back up at the face of Alan Wallace, and notices a very slight tug at the corner of Vain's mouth. Sucking his teeth, he takes a step backwards.
"Very funny, Alan. For Christ sake…"
Vain begins to laugh, as he wipes the tear from his cheek.
"Well, I figured if you were going to attempt to troll me, the least that I could do is show you how it's done. And you have to admit, the tear was a nice touch."
"You're an asshole, you know that, right?"
Vain claps Simon on his shoulder.
"Guilty as charged, Mr. Wellington. Guilty as charged."
Simon retakes his seat on the sofa, picking his paper back up.
"I will say though, that lone tear was much more personality than Mr. Rydell has shown in years."
"I do what I can do to help those in need, Simon. I'm giving in that way."
"And what is it that you will give him in the form of retribution for last Monday?"
Vain simply smiles.

"I have to admit, Mr. Rydell… you picked your spot, and you took it. I respect that, as crazy as it sounds. Because there was a time in my career where, if I felt it was warranted, I would have made the same type of statement. I would have made the same type of impact."
"Kudos, Mr. Rydell, for maybe you're more like Alan Wallace than anyone has ever realized. Then again, maybe not."
"I do think there has been a misconception regarding my feelings towards you, Mr. Rydell. I think that our fans around the world may believe that 'Yours Truly' dislikes you, but they would be wrong. I actually like you, Dave… at least a hell of a lot more than I like most of the other men and women in the back. Most are pure snakes, having perfected the art of smiling and patting you on the shoulder, all while twisting the knife that they've planted firmly in the center of your back. But you? You aren't like that, Dave. In fact, you're far from it."
"You have a 'what you see is what you get' type of mentality, Dave, and that's something that has all but become non-existent in this industry. You do what you say, and you say what you do. And no matter what, you always stick to your principles. I commend you for that, Dave, and I'll be the first to admit that I haven't always followed the principles that I set for myself many years ago."
"Then again, I haven't had to."
"You see Dave, while I may not find you as reprehensible as a person as, say, Eden Morgan does… what I do find reprehensible is this idea that you have that you are better than me in that ring. What I do find reprehensible is the fact that, due to a few instances where you came out the victor over me, you have this viewpoint that you are better than 'Vain' Alan Wallace."
"There's nothing cute about stupid, Dave."
"While I can admit that you have had a modicum of success in this industry, I take note of the fact that… outside of the Cooperative division… almost all of your great successes in this industry occurred before 'Vain' Alan Wallace signed his contract with UGWC. The times since I signed that dotted line where your name was synonymous with greatness in this company, hell this industry, was when you shared the ring with me."
"I think you should be thanking me, Mr. Rydell."
"Now I know what you're thinking, Dave. You eliminated me at Outlast, keeping me from challenging for the World Title. Let's face it though, Dave… I wanted Killian King. Nothing more, and nothing less. But credit where it is due, you did eliminate me that night… even if you did fuck all with it after you did so. And, more recently, you left me laying in the center of the ring on Synergy. Congratulations for that statement, Dave, but there is one thing you need to know…"
"I refuse to turn the other cheek this time."
"What you have before you is the reigning UGWC Cross-Hemisphere Champion, Dave. What you have before you is the man who is going to go on to become the new UGWC World Champion, and bring back the stability to that title that I did in 2015. You? You're the other guy in my first-round matchup. And quite frankly… you're standing in my way, Dave."
"And just like our 'Run of the Mill' match a few years ago… you will be merely a footnote on yet another meteoric rise of 'Yours Truly'. But at least your name will go down in history because of it."
"You're welcome."

Harder Than Steel
UGWC: The Mag
The Official Magazine of the Unified Global Wrestling Coalition
Had anyone told me five years ago that, not only would 'Vain' Alan Wallace step away from the wrestling industry for almost an entire decade, only to come back and be the pinnacle of the business for the better part of an entire year as our UGWC World Champion… but that he would, of his own volition, step aside from singles competition to focus on the cooperative division with Killian King, and after the complete implosion of the team known as 'Sex and Violence', find himself as not only our reigning Cross-Hemisphere Champion, but also find himself with the opportunity of going on to become the new World Champion by winning this year's Global Challenge… simply put, I'd have thought them idiotic. Or insane. Most likely both.
Alas, the man born Alan Wallace has proven, yet again, that it is never wise to bet against him.
Right around this time of year three years ago, I wrote a contributing piece for this very magazine detailing my views on where Alan Wallace stood, in my eyes, within the world of professional wrestling. How, when I first heard the news of his signing after being out of the limelight for almost a decade, I didn't think much of it at all. How, in my eyes, he would never be able to live up to the expectation that surrounded his likeness. How, in my humble opinion, he would likely bring a bit of notoriety to our great company, but that it was my estimation that he would most likely flame out within six months. And how I couldn't have been further from the truth with all of it. Simply put, I had been wrong.
Doesn't it seem that 'Vain' Alan Wallace absolutely relishes in proving everyone wrong?
Everything that he has been through over the last year, and yet here we stand again, in complete awe of not only what Alan Wallace can do in the ring, but also of how he continues to excel after extended absences away from it. Five years ago at Wrestlestock, he made his first appearance on UGWC screens, and even though people like myself thought him a fool, he not only went on to become a multi-time champion in the Cross-Hemisphere and Cooperative divisions, but he also added a stability to the UGWC World Title that had been seriously lacking before he bested Klaus vonKnorre at the 2015 edition of the Massive Melee pay per view event. Last year, we saw his best friend turn on him after a Cooperative Championship loss at Wrestlestock, and we all thought the time had come when Alan Wallace would likely hang up his wrestling boots for good. And yet, here we are, with 'Vain' Alan Wallace as our UGWC Cross-Hemisphere Champion, and the very real possibility that he could come out on top in the Global Challenge, and one again become the UGWC World Champion.
Really, shouldn't all of us know better by now?
The members of 'The Court' ridiculed this man for months, likening him to nothing more than a has-been or, shockingly, a never-was. They never thought it a possibility that Alan Wallace would survive his clash with Killian King at Horizons, let alone be the sole reason that they were not represented in the recent Cross-Hemisphere Championship match, which saw Alan Wallace defeat Lucy Wylde. They likely view Vain's inclusion into the Global Challenge as a slap in the face to each and every one of them, considering that for all intents and purposes, he was handed the spot in the tournament that was to be for their former cohort, and the man that has seemingly been forced to retire due to Alan Wallace, 'The Crucible' Killian King. And they most likely only view him as a minor speed bump, before one of them goes on to become the UGWC World Champion.
How many times will others need to be proven wrong, before we begin to appreciate Alan Wallace for everything that he brings to this industry?
As we grow closer to Infinity, I have come to the conclusion that it is an appropriately named event this year, because once more Alan Wallace is poised to possibly make a supreme impact within not only this company, but also this entire industry. Almost as if, when he decides that it is time to thrust himself back into the spotlight, he simply goes out and does it. No matter the wrestlers he encounters; no matter the passage of time; no matter what it is that is going on around him; and no matter how often everyone else sits back and says to themselves, "there's no way he can <insert accomplishment at your leisure>"; 'Vain' Alan Wallace can seemingly do anything and everything that he puts his mind to, for as long as he wants. Another year? Another ten years? Infinity? Nothing is out of the realm of possibility when it comes to Alan Wallace. He's a superhero. He really is a wrestling version of Superman. Hell, he might as well be UGWC's very own 'Man of Steel'.
No, scratch that. He isn't our Man of Steel, because he's even more than that. He's better than steel. He's faster than steel. He's stronger than steel. He's harder than steel.
Simply put, what better way is there to describe a man who can self-impose his own exile after the decline of Headstrong Wrestling… only to return nearly a decade later and become one of the biggest names in the business, yet again? What better way is there to describe a man who was damn near maimed at Wrestlestock by a man he considered a brother… who not only came back when nobody thought he could and gained a semblance of revenge by beating that man at Horizons, but who also, somehow, found a way to look past the actions of Killian King, and instead focused on trying to repair some portion of a relationship with him? What better way is there to describe a man like Alan Wallace?
Truth be told, I question whether or not he has something akin to his 'kryptonite', even when I know that he should. Because no matter how great he has been over the years, he's still just a man, right?
Each and every person that has found themselves at odds with Alan Wallace has thought they were only going up against a mere mortal. And each and every one of them found out just how wrong they have been. And each and every one of them has been both better, and worse, in the long run for that opportunity.
Endless is what the legacy of 'Vain' Alan Wallace will be. And each time that he steps into that ring, he only adds to that list of accomplishments. He furthers that growing legend that has become 'The Money Maker'. He makes everyone appreciate all that it is that he has brought to not only UGWC, but to professional wrestling.
Luckily for us, at Infinity, we will be able to continue appreciating the man born Alan Wallace… and will continue being able to do so for as long as he deems us worthy.

"What time do you fly out tomorrow, honey?"
Vain exits the master bath, flicking the light off as he does. Making his way across the room, he crawls into bed beside of Celeste Worth, leaning over to give her a kiss before answering.
"Vain Force One is scheduled for takeoff at precisely 0900, my dear. You should come with me, and be there to celebrate with me as I once again become the UGWC World Champion."
"I don't think that is the best idea, Alan. Not considering who you may face on your way to that goal."
"What do you mean, Candi?"
Celeste Worth scoots up in the bed, leaning her head and shoulders against the headboard. She looks over at Vain.
"You forget that it was I who helped nurse you back to health after what Killian did to you at Wrestlestock. You forget that it was I who you confided in… who you chose to air all of your frustrations, and vent all of your anger over not only the act that he perpetrated, but also your reasoning for why he did it."
"Yes, I understand that, Celeste. What does any of that have to do with your coming to Indianapolis?"
"Because Alan, I know that you blame her… and I know what you want to do to her if given the opportunity. And I cannot watch you resort to those measures."
"Would she not deserve it, Celeste?"
Celeste looks at him for a long time in silence before answering.
"She deserves everything she gets, Alan. I just cannot be there to witness another person's complete and utter destruction."
Vain half-nods as he lightly begins patting her on the leg, Celeste grabbing his hand and giving it a squeeze, as she tries her best to give him a smile.

What Vainman and my Court mates don’t know
Is this flash is all for show
'Cause inside
There's nothing there and there's nothing to me
I'm empty and I'm hollow
"You are a miserable excuse for a human being, Eden Morgan. Of course anyone with a brain that has seen you in action would already know that, wouldn't they?"
"Ryan Hanneman, anyone?"
"To think that I once looked at you as a leader in this business… as someone whom the youngsters in the crowd could look upon as a hero… someone whom they would want to be like some day."
"If those types of children still exist, I weep for the future of this country. Even more so than I do now…"
Everyone is just a pawn in this game that you play, and no matter if tough love is needed… or supposed friendship… or even some semblance of love… everyone that you come into contact with in your entire miserable existence, you will confuse, lie to, manipulate, and turn their entire world upside down, simply either because you stand something to gain from them, or because you find it amusing."
"Or, knowing you, it's likely both."
"You did it to Ingalls. You can claim all you want that the DMW was the reason for that failed relationship, but Jase attempted to do the right thing. He attempted to split from that band of idiotic convicts, even though he knew how it could possibly end up. He put his life on the line with people that were once his brothers… for you. And how did you repay him, Eden? By using him when it benefitted you, and then discarding him as soon as his usefulness to you was over. You did so by setting him up, and delivering him to the very wolves that he had miraculously escaped the wrath of after he left the club."
"Are you even aware of everything that Chaos put him through, when he had him locked in that shed, Eden? Do you even care? Don't bother putting much thought into an answer for that last question, Eden… it's merely rhetorical, because everyone already knows the answer. You don't give a good goddamn about Jason Ingalls, because you only care about yourself."
"You did it to Hugh. And whatever happened to him, Eden? Due to his former association with you, I'm sure his face has found its way to the back of a milk carton by now. What a shame, because he, too, seemed to care for you. And you ate him alive, just as you did to Ingalls."
"And then you did it to the one man who I thought would be able to see through your lies and deceit… the one person if ever there was one, who would be able to withstand the nightmare that is being close to Eden Morgan, and come out unscathed."
"Killian King."
"You manipulated him into ending his association with me, resulting in the two of us tearing into each other unlike anyone else has in this business. We, the both of us, did everything in our power to ensure the other didn't walk out of their the same. And quite honestly… we both succeeded in that, Eden. Neither one of us will ever be the same again. Unfortunately, the price that Killian paid was his career."
"Are you happy with yourself, Eden Morgan?"
"Of course you are, because Killian was nothing more than yet another pawn you used up, and then spit out."
"Just like you will do to Gabriel Baal…"
"Just like you will do to Jet Somers…"
"Just like you will do to anyone that chooses to believe the bullshit that comes out of your mouth every single day of the week. Now I can't help that Baal and Somers refuse to see what is crystal clear to everyone else… maybe the two are both too blinded by the words that you speak, to see the meaning behind each and every syllable…"
"Or maybe they're in love with you, and with Killian now back across the pond, feel that it is their time to slide in and be the one to change Eden Morgan…"
"But I'm the only one that is capable of changing you, Eden Morgan… but not in the manner you think."
"While it is no guarantee that you will get past Zane Scott in the first round, if you do, know that I will be waiting for you. Either in the semifinals, or in the final match that will determine the brand new UGWC World Heavyweight Champion, you will have a date with 'Vain' Alan Wallace."
"A date with your destiny, Eden."
"And it isn't one filled with smarmy Twitter posts and mundane selfies… it isn't one where Eden Morgan continues through life pretending to be more important than she really is… and it isn't one that ends with you and your cronies standing tall at the end of the night. No, your destiny is to find yourself standing across the ring from someone that is going to hurt you… someone who is going to hurt you very, very badly, Eden."
"For Hanneman…"
"For Ingallls…"
"For King…"
"And for me."
"At Infinity, Eden Morgan… if you happen to make it that far… you are going to come face-to-face with a man whom many fans view as a wrestling deity. But do not get it confused, Ms. Morgan, because Alan Wallace doesn't view himself as a God. But what I am, and what I will be, is your judge… your jury… and your fucking executioner."
"And when that moment comes, Eden Morgan, and everything that you claim to hold dear flashes before your eyes, I want you to know one thing…"
"You brought all of this on yourself. And that moment will be your last."
FIN
"Something I can help you with, Alan?"
Vain doesn't stop. In fact, he doesn't even look at his friend and advocate. He does, however, respond.

===============

This moment will last forever
One last moment together
