Lacklanland
Time and date unsepcified
Time and date unsepcified
Angelica woke up. The rays of sunshine through the curtains hit her right in the eyes. But yet, it was a gentle awakening, The fluffy duvet was pulled up to her chin, and along with the comforting heat the radiators provided and the ever-present smell of lavender in the room, Angelica didnât even feel the need to snooze. Yes, it was morning in Lacklanland, and even though it was âjustâ a guest room, Sarah had made sure she was well taken care of.
Her friend had allowed her to stay at her⌠could you even still call it a house? Angelica wasnât sure whether to call it a castle, a mansion or a palace. Nevertheless, there was room aplenty, and the âguest roomâ was probably bigger than the entire apartment she had inhabited only last week, before being kicked out after a slight falling out with the owner (who was, coincidentally, also her former tag team partner). She still hoped they could rebuild that bridge, but as she hadnât heard from her in a while, she was more than happy to stay here while she was searching for new accommodations; and enjoy all the luxury and comforts this place brought.
Angelica wanted to pull the duvet to the side, but was unable to do so. Something prevented her from lifting up the blanket and as she looked to her side, she found the furry culprit: one of her cats, ser Bobby in particular, was sleeping on top, gently purring as he dreamt of all the things cats dream about: food, milk, chasing mice and getting loving attention from humans. Angelica was all too happy to give the latter to him as she stroked the grey fur of the British Shorthair. Ser Bobby pushed his head into her fingers, wanting to feel every bit of the massage and Angelica giggled. She wanted to keep massaging his head, but was suddenly startled by the sound of muffled cooing that came from up high. She gasped, but soon noticed a white pigeon sitting atop the pelmet, holding a letter in its beak, which was clearly stamped with the Lacklan seal. The pigeon hoped off, flapped its wings and landed on Angelicaâs knees. She sat up, slightly worried that ser Bobby might take offense, but the cat took one look at the bird and put its head back down. His belly was full, and his eyelids were heavy. He resumed his snoozefest while the bird dropped the letter on Angelicaâs lap.
âWhy thank you,â slightly bewildered. She took the parchment letter and slid her finger behind the fold, tearing the wax seal from the paper. It unfolded automatically, and Angie immediately recognized Sarâs handwriting. She was, after all, the only person she knew who wrote in Comic Sans. The penmanship was great, for someone who had through an accident like hers, and there were only a few shaky letters to be detected. Angelica started readingâŚ
âDearest Angelica
My Beloved and I will be gone for the day. We wanted to take you with us, but you were sleeping so gently it seemed like a crime to wake you. (Beloved was half on her way to get the bagpipes to wake you up, but I stopped her in my totes amazeballs Wheelchair⌠OF DOOM!)
Weâll catch up later tonight. You have the run of the house and the woods. Obvs. And my sla (hastily scrawled out) employees will fulfil your every need should you desire to call on them. Obvs.
Have a great day!
Your dear friend and Matron of Pigeons
Sarah Selena Grey-Lacklanâ
Angelica folded the letter up and smiled. How thoughtful. She looked at the pigeon and nodded in acknowledgment of its services. The pigeon cocked its head and stared right back.
Then suddenly, a white blur flashed past. The pigeon cried out as feathers flew in every possible direction and ser Bobby leapt to its paws in shock and terror. Angelicaâs own heart rate skyrocketed and she looked at the floor, where her other cat ser Alex stood, holding one of the pigeonâs wings between his jaws. It was flapping in terror, but ser Alex, a white Sottish Fold, merely looked up at Angelica with great pride, showing off his catch. But Angelica was none too pleased.
âSer Alex, naughty kitty! Release Sarahâs pigeon right now!â
Now ser Alex cocked his head, but Angelica wagged her finger.
âNow, I said! Or no petting for a week.. well, a day⌠or at least not until noon!â
Whether he understood her or not, he released the pigeon, which flew back to the pelmet, though not with the greatest of ease. The cat turned around and raised his tail, clearly displeased with having to give up his prey. Angelica picked up ser Bobby and put him on the ground too, before getting out of bed.
âCanât have you two eat Sarâs beloved pigeons! You donât want to see her mad!â she said as she walked over to the window. She opened it and the pigeon flew out, back to the coop. She quickly shut it before the icy cold winter air made the temperatures in the room drop.
Time to get dressed! Angie walked over to the walk-in wardrobe. It was huge, with dozens of dresses hanging neatly from their hangers. âYou can stay as long as you like,â Sarah had said, âbut while youâre in my house you will only wear the prettiest of dresses!â Hardly a problem. Sure, they made Angelica look like a Disney princess, but she didnât mind that at all. Which eighteen year old girl would? She picked a golden dress with matching flower tiara. She applied some basic makeup too, because thatâs what girls her age do, and before she knew it she was ready to go. As she walked to the door her cats followed her trail. They werenât going to be locked inside a guest room all day, not when there was all of Lacklanland to explore! She opened the door and they slipped outside as soon as they got the chance. Ser Alex first, ser Bobby right behind him. Angelica followed them. The whole house was specifically designed to be a bit of a maze, and she trusted her catsâ sense of orientation better than she trusted her own. After all, theyâd explored every nook and cranny alongside their friend Lil Has, Sarahâs pet dwarf bunny. The little fellow was undoubtedly hopping around somewhere and ser Bobby and ser Alex were trying to pick up its scent so they could go and play together.
But first, food. Obvs. She followed her kitties to the kitchen, glad not to bump into either Sidney Grey or Sebastian Hargrave, had a bite, and then decided to go outside. It was cold, but the sun was shining and the skies were clear. A walk around the property would do her some good. She opened the kitchen door that led into the garden, and looked back at her cats.
âYou two coming?â
They stared at her. Ser Bobby seemed to prefer the comfort of the indoors, and wanted to go play with Lil Has, but ser Alex was quick to follow, even the adventurous one. Choosing not to get left behind, ser Bobby followed as well and out they stepped, into the enormous garden that was bordered by the woods. Large buxus hedges, trimmed in specific shapes, dotted the gardens, along with patches of flowers and plants. The air was cold enough to have little clouds of vapor escape her mouth with every breath and she looked on as her cats started running in circles around her, stirring up the dew from the wet grass. Angelica started wandering, and so did her mind.
It was a new dawn, a new day, and with every passing moment she knew she was getting closer to her UGWC debut. It had been Sarah who implored her to sign a deal there after her latest contract wasnât renewed; sheâd talked up the company, saying that it housed some of the worldâs best wrestlers⌠that its infrastructure was solid and its management reliable. And since Angelica trusted her friend, she had asked her agent to strike a deal. The upper echelons of UGWC seemed very happy to sign her, something Angelica saw as a compliment. Sheâd worked hard, and felt it was a recognition of her efforts. And sheâd been given a trial by fire: a triple threat match on her debut, against none other than Le Bord De Dieu and Maggie Lockheart.
She knew Bordy from her previous company. She was a strange woman, shrouded in mystery and obsessed with Angelicaâs eyes, for some reason. She also went out of her way to call her a slut at every twist and turn, which was borderline ridiculous, but there seemed to be no reasoning with her. She clearly had mental issues.
Speaking of mental issues, she mostly knew Maggie from having been in a relationship with Sam Tolson. To Angelica, having a relationship with that person was like having malaria. You could try and get rid of it, suppress the symptoms as much you could, but it was a disease that stayed inside your body forever, marking you like a leper is marked by the rotting of his flesh. Now, Maggie was obviously a much better person than her former lover, although that was like saying Donald Trump was a better person than Pol Pot. You could be a better person than Sam Tolson and still be pretty horrible! But others had vouched for Maggie, and she looked forward to seeing what she brought to the table. She definitely came across as more of a balanced person, whereas Bordyâs unpredictability could really catch you off guard.
There was little tape of Bordy to study, making it difficult to prepare for her. Angelica knew that by stepping foot in the unknown terrain of UGWC she was going to have to wing it, certainly in the beginning as she found her footing. But that never meant she was going to roll over and lie down. She didnât do that for anybody. Not anymore. She had come too far, achieved too much already to not owe it to herself to be as successful as she knew she could be. She was still the naĂŻve, bubbly blonde girl at heart, but she took her wrestling seriously, and sheâd come a long way in the past year, lifting herself from the gutter all the way to the top of quite a few companies. She knew she could be successful at UGWC. She had more fighting spirit and moxie than many gave her credit for.
Snapping awake from her daydream, Angelica found herself at the edge of the forest. The canopy already loomed over her. She peered in between the trees. It seemed dark inside, the leaves blocking out the sun. And yet, it looked strangely inviting. Even though she had visited Lacklanland on many occasions, sheâd never set foot inside. Angelica had long wondered what mysteries, if any, laid hidden within. But it was always fun to imagine. Were there magical animals? Hidden treasures? Evil sorcerers?
Angelica smiled and looked over her shoulder at sers Bobby and Alex who were staring at her. They seemed weary of the forest, but Angelica called out to them.
âCome on, kitties. Weâre going in! No reason to be afraid. Letâs go and play!â And as Angelica broke the treeline and set foot inside, they hesitantly followed. As soon as she did, the air seemed to thicken. It felt old, and drawing breath was suddenly much harder, but it wasnât uncomfortable or unpleasant. It was like going from chewing jell-o to chewing on gummy bears. Just a⌠different experience. Her hand caressed the rough bark of the trees as she walked further inside, her cats in tow.
It was humid but warm underneath the trees. Much warmer than on the outside of the forest. She could see spores and pollen floating through the air, and Angelica breathed in deep, smelling wet moss and fallen leaves.
âHmmm, that smells nice,â Angelica remarked. âWouldnât you agree, ser Alex?â
âOh, absolutely!â came the reply.
âYeah⌠wait, what?â Angelica turned around in shock and horror, looking at her cat. Except he no longer was! He just looked like one. But he was now at least six foot tall, standing in his hind legs, and looking at Angelica with a smirk across his face.
âSer Alex, you can talk⌠and walk???â
Angelica felt she was about to faint. She took a step backwards to stop herself from falling over. What was going on? She couldnât make heads or tails of it.
âSo then that means⌠ser Bobby?â
She looked over and sure enough, ser Bobby was now a strapping six-foot humanoid cat, his grey fur sparkling from the few rays of light that made it through the canopy.
âSup, Mom?â Bobby replied. He waved a jelly-bean-toed paw at her.
Angelica felt her blood pressure drop so quickly she had to take a moment to sit down. Concerned, both cats walked over to her and kneeled next to Angelica as best their cat legs allowed for.
âAre you all right, Mother?â Alex asked, putting a paw on her shoulder. His whiskers tickled Angelicaâs cheek as he leaned in to her.
âI just⌠donât understand,â Angelica said, her mind and heart racing, trying to make sense of the situation. There was only one explanation: she was going crazy! âHow is this possible??â
âThere is magic in these woods,â Bobby explained. âVery old magic, locked away inside this mass of trunks and leaves. Places like these, untouched throughout millennia, harbor more secrets than any one man or woman can fathom. Magic from the olden days, when, as they say, animals could talk.â
The cat smiled and Angelica looked up at him. She couldnât quite believe it, but if she could no longer believe her own eyes and ears, what could she still believe? She gathered her courage and got back to her feet, which seemed to ease her catsâ worries.
âRight,â Angelica said. âIâm probably still going crazy, but whatever. This⌠old magic, what is it, precisely?â
âItâs dark magic,â ser Alex began. He pointed a paw further into the forest. âDeep into these woods lies the lair of The Edge of God, her hatred festering like an old, unattended wound. Her dark magic flows forth like pus from a deep cut. She is a wounded soul, but beyond repair. She has one goal, and one goal only: to engulf all of Lacklanland in darkness and rule over it. Mistress Sarah is unaware of the threat that lies within these woods. Iâm afraid that if we do not stop it, one day itâll be too late.â
âExactly,â ser Bobby replied. âThe Edge of Godâs darkness is spreading, her minions in these woods are completely under her control. Little more than zombies, eager to carry out her will. We must end her, or Mistress Sarahâs rule over Lacklanland will soon come to a violent end.â
âWait. Wait, wait, WAIT!â Angelica held up her hands and shook her head. âHow do you even know all this?â
âLil Has told us,â ser Alex stated matter-of-factly. âHe has been trying to make his Mother aware of the situation, but Dwarf Bunnies canât talk. Not in the normal world, anyway. It was fate that guided us here. Itâs up to the three of us to stop her.â
âBut why⌠and how???â The more Angie heard, the more questions she had.
âBecause youâre the key, Mom,â ser Bobby said. âThe Edge of Godâs power is waning. Her allseeing eyes are diminishing in power. But this has only driven her to desperation and she has become more and more aggressive. She wants your eyes, so she can see again. Beyond these woods. Beyond even Lacklanland. If we donât act now, she will find you and her power will increase a thousandfold. We canât allow that to happen.â
âRightâŚâ Angelica answered, as ser Bobby began licking his paw and started to rub it behind his ear. âSuppose all of this is true. How do we stop it from happening?â
âDeep into these woods,â ser Alex continued, âlies her lair. A tall, dark tower from which she sees everything. Her darkness spreads from there, her hunger never diminishing. And⌠ser Bobby, please, now is not the time to wash yourself, certainly not your bollocks!â
The large cat shook his head as ser Bobby had positioned himself on the ground, bending over to lick himself between the legs. He looked up, his big, beautiful black-and-yellow eyes full of innocence.
âBut⌠itâs always a good time to wash your balls!â
Ser Alex opened his mouth, trying to come up with a counter argument. But he could find none. âI⌠Fair enough, youâre âŚmeow⌠right. As you were! Now, at the base of The Edge of Godâs tower lies her primary source of power. While she uses her eyes to see, to feed, and to destroy, itâs fed by her Heart of Darkness, which she keeps locked away. It is guarded by her fiercest warrior and most dangerous minion. Anyone who wishes to obliterate her, must first pass through her. And she, My Mother, is dangerous.â
Angelica scratched her head. She tried to recap. âSo, let me get this straight. The Edge of God wants to take over Lacklanland. But her power is failing, and she wants to steal my eyes to increase her strength. If she is successful, she will engulf all of Lacklanland and the world beyond in terrible darkness, unless we destroy her by piercing her heart, which is locked away in the bottom of her tower, guarded by her strongest and most dangerous minion.â
âThatâs⌠meow⌠about right.â Ser Alex nodded. âAnd now, we must go. Time is short. She has let loose her dogs of war and the Guardian of this Forest, the Great Wolf, has failed. He was struck down by the Shine of the Moon, according to Lil Has. So we canât count on him.â
âThenâŚâ Angelica spoke, âI guess we should go!â
And so they started on their quest to destroy The Edge of God. They went deeper into the forest, setting foot and paw in places that had been untouched by cat- or human life for centuries. The further they went, the thicker the air got, and the more sinister the atmosphere became. The creaking of the tree trunks made it look like they were talking amongst themselves, wondering who these intruders were that had dared to set foot in their sacred lands.
After an hour and a half had passed, ser Bobby suddenly held up his paw. âSTOP!â he cried out, and he turned around to look at Angelica with his black-and-yellow eyes. âIâm hungry, Mom. I want a treat.â
Angelicaâs jaw dropped, not knowing how to react. Ser Alex turned his head, and licked his whiskers with his tongue before chiming in. âActually, a treat sounds nice. I would like a treat as well, Mother.â
âPleaaaaase?â Ser Bobby asked, before Angelica sighed and reached into the petticoat of her dress.
âFine!â She retrieved some cat candies and threw them at her humanoid cats, who easily snatched them with their mouths.
âAnother! Pleaaaase?â they both said. Angelica rolled her eyes and was about to acquiesce until a loud snap put the three of them on alert.
âGet down! Hide!â Ser Alex hissed. He and Ser Bobby rolled into a ball and curled up next to a particularly big tree trunk whose roots provided natural shelter. Angelica followed them quickly, smudging her golden dress with dirt. She suddenly heard voices, coming from nearby. They were deep growls, full of hate and aggression.
âI swear I smelled an intruder,â it said. âCats, maybe even a human! A human! Here!â
âMinions,â Ser Alex whispered in Angelicaâs ear. She squeezed her nose shut. His breath wasnât particularly nice. âThey mustâve caught our scent. This means weâre getting close, though. But we canât let them detect us. Or let them get away if they do.â
Two shapes walked past. Angelica peeked at them and gasped. They were monstrosities. Big, brown dogs walking on their hind legs, their teeth razor-sharp and their claws sticking out, ready to strike at any given time. They looked every bit like a werewolf.
âThen find them,â the other dog said. âKill the cats, but spare the human. If itâs who I think it is, our Lady wants her eyes!â
Ser Bobby poked Angelica. âMom, we have to sneak away. If weâre lucky we can get to the tower undetected, before we-âŚâ
âNo!â Ser Alex hissed. âI am Ser Alex Whiskerheart, First Captain of the Order of the Purr, Chief Furniture Demolisher and HonoraryâŚmeow⌠Lieutenant of the Litter Tray! And I⌠I run from no dog!â
âSer Alex, donâtâŚâ Ser Bobby began, but ser Alex jumped up from their hiding spot into plain sight and he called out to them.
âHey! My Dee Oh Double Gees! Are yâall looking forâŚmeowâŚme?â
The two dogs growled and turned around. They were taller than Ser Alex, and a huge grin appeared on their faces as they saw the defiant cat call them out.
âWell, wellâ, the taller of the two began, âlook who has come to DIE!â
âAnd heâs all alone, â the other continued. They both licked their teeth, anticipating an easy kill, but that would certainly not be the case.
âNo!â Ser Bobby screamed out, as he too rose from the hiding place, âNot alone! His friends are here to help him⌠and put an end to your evil!â
Angelica also rose from beneath the roots, standing beside her furry friends, who had adopted a fighting stance.
âAnd anyone who messes with my kitties, messes with me!â she added. âI will destroy the Lockheart and vanquish The Edge of God. I will not let darkness rule eternal over Lacklanland.â
âItâs her!â one of the dogs growled. âThe one whose eyes She seeks. Get her!â
They charged forward, using all four of their legs for maximum speed. Ser Bobby and Ser Alex braced themselves, until the latter called out.
âSer Bobby⌠Pounce!â
They leapt almost ten feet into the air, the dogs passing underneath them. They landed in their necks and sunk their teeth in the necks of their assailants, drawing a deafening whine. Distracted, Angelica rushed in, kicking their hind legs from underneath them and both Ser Bobby and Alex dug further into their necks while their claws sprang. Swiping away, they drew blood as the dogs howled in agony. They shook off the cats, but rather than retaliate, they retreated with their tails between their legs. As both cats got up, they wiped the blood from their mouths.
âTake that, ya mangy curs!â Ser Bobby shouted after them, but Ser Alex hurried over.
âWe canât linger. We must go NOW! They will no doubt get reinforcements so we must rush to the tower before they amass too big a force for us to handle.â
âRight!â Angelica pitched in. âSo which way do we go? Follow their trail? You two should have no problem with that, right?â
âNot at allâ, Ser Bobby said and he smirked âThis way!â
The trio started to follow the trail left behind. After a while, the trees started to thin out. Angelica could see a tall, dark tower in the distance through the trees as they were nearing a clearing. It was hundreds of feet high and stuck out above the canopy, making Angelica wonder why sheâd never seen it from one of the windows in the house before. But so far she had seen talking humanoid cats and dogs that had enlisted her on a quest to defeat an ancient evil sorceress. So she didnât really pay it much mind.
They neared the clearing, and Ser Alex gave the order for each of them to hide behind a tree as he scouted the environment at the base of the tower. There was an enormous wooden door that was guarded by a dozen dogs. But towering above them was a tall, raven-haired beauty, who was wielding a pair of battle axes large and sharp enough to chop down an entire tree with a single swing. She was clad in a battle dress with spiked shoulders and sharp blades on the forearms.
âThatâs her, isnât it?â Ser Bobby asked. âThe Magster? Protector of the Lockheart? The one of whom Lil Has spoke?â
Ser Alex nodded. âThe most dangerous one of them all. Everything will depend on whether we can take her down or not.â
âLeave her to me,â Angelica said defiantly. She eyed up this so-called âMagsterâ. Angelice had gone toe to toe with giants, traded shots with psychopaths and had gone blow for blow with men twice her size. She wasnât afraid of her. âYou two take care of her canine minions. Iâll deal⌠with her.â
Angelica appeared from behind the tree. It didnât take long for one of the dogs to spot her, and as it alerted its pack, they grouped together, a growling mass of fury ready to strike. Sers Bobby and Alex also appeared by her side now. Their claws sprang from their paws and they hissed at the dogs as they got ready for the fight of their lives. Angelica turned her head and looked at her kitties.
ââŚfor Sarah,â she whispered, before turning around and rushing at the horde.
Her cats meowed as hard as they could and followed her as the dogs got ready for the fight. But Sers Bobby and Alex moved with blinding speed. They tackled into the pack with such force they bowled over at least 5 of their foes. They swiped furiously with their clawed paws and a few well aimed kicks kept the small army at bay while Angelica broke off to face The Magster who was guarding the door.
The protector of the Lockheart towered above Angelica, but she did not let that deter her. Angelica knew she was going to have to fight her, and it wasnât going to be easy in her gold dressâŚ
âYou shall not pass,â The Magster said. âYou shall falter. The Edge of God will take your eyes for herself and envelop all the world in her blissful darkness. But first⌠I get the pleasure of beating you!â
Angelica was hit with an adrenalin rush the likes of which sheâd never felt before. As The Magster raised her axes, Angelica rolled to the side. As she got up, she kicked downwards with her foot on Magsterâs knees. As it buckled, she suddenly wasnât nearly as tall anymore. Angelica swung her foot at her once more, aiming for her head, but Magster dropped one of her axes and grabbed Angelicaâs leg, blocking the strike. She stood up and Angelica lost her balance before being lifted in the air, dangling from her ankle. Magster raised her other axe and swung at a seemingly defenseless Angie, but the leggy blonde used all of her core strength to crunch upwards and avoid what couldâve been a lethal strike. She continued her upward momentum and poked Magster in the eyes! In a wrestling match it wouldâve been illegal, but in a match to the death, everything was permitted. An enraged Magster dropped her other axe and Angie, before clutching her face in pain, her screeches sending shivers down Angelicaâs spine. But she did not hold back. She hit a bicycle kick to the protectorâs stomach, doubling her over and followed it up with an axe kick that made her fall to the ground. Angelica looked at the face of the Magster, whose hate-filled eyes peered at her.
âYou will fail!â she screeched. âThe Edge of God can never be defeated!â
âWeâll see about that,â Angelica retorted. âAfter all, thatâs what they said about youâŚâ Angelica swung her foot, and hit The Magster with a #Vaughnemous soccer kick straight to the face! She collapsed like a sack of flour, and Angelica triumphantly stood over her body, untilâŚ
âMother, help!â
She turned around. Her babies were being overran, despite their most valiant efforts! Over a dozen dogs were swarming them and they were about to be torn to shreds. There was no fear in their eyes, but desperation, and they knew the inevitable was about to happen really soon. UntilâŚ
âYEEEEEEEHAWWW! Cavalryâs arrived, lads!â From out of the woods jumped a white blur, so lightning fast and at such immense speed it kicked one of the canine minions in the chest so hard its bones crunched and it flew for several yards, not moving another muscle. As their helper came to a standstill, Angelicaâs jaw dropped. She couldnât believe it. He was humanoid too, but clearly recognizable. His big rabbit feet, his ears, even his teethâŚ
âLIL HAS???â Angelica and her cats shouted in unison. The now humanoid bunny rabbit, standing at around five feet, adopted a kung fu stance and looked at his friends while the surprised packs of dogs regrouped after the surprise of seeing one of their own wiped out.
âBobby! Alex! Darling Angelica! How ruddy, bloody dare you lot rush off on this quest without me?â He spoke with an English eerily resembling Sarahâs. âBeating The Edge of God, piercing her heart and keeping Lacklanland safe? Seems right up my alley, doesnât it?â Lil Has grinned, but Ser Bobby raised a genuine concern.
âMuch as we appreciate the help, weâre still severely outnumbered!â
âNot for long,â Lil Has said, and he looked up before whistling. And before long, the sun was blotted out by an entire flock of what had once been white pigeons, now looking like winged cherubs, as they swooped down upon the pack of dogs, ready to aid. âAttack, my pidgies, protect your Queen and country! And Angelica⌠Go finish off that old hag, would you?â
Lil Has nodded at the axes and pointed at the door while the battle between dogs, cats, pigeons and an incredibly skilled martial artist dwarf bunny kicked off. Angelica took one of the axes. It was heavy, but it was manageable. She swung it at the door, and as the wood splintered, a deep roar came from within the bowels of the tower. Angelica ignored it, and she kept swinging until she was breaking through. With every hit came a screech or a roar. The Edge of God was hurting. Panicking. She knew her time was up.
Angelica broke through the door. She looked over to her side. Ser Bobby, Alex, Lil Has and the pigeons were giving the minions all they could handle and she was in the clear. She stepped inside, into a massive chamber. And there it was. The heart. It was attached to the walls with thick steel chains, each beat echoing throughout the chamber. Angelica raised the axe, ready to strike. Ready to destroy it and end the threat to Lacklanland once and for all. But thenâŚ
âDONâT YOU DARE!â
A loud voice boomed through the chamber, digging its way into Angelicaâs brain, as if it tried to take over her mind.
âI AM THE EDGE OF GOD AND YOU WILL KNEEL, YOU LITTLE STRUMPET! KNEEL BEFORE ME LIKE THAT SLATTERN LACKLAN WILL!!â
âNever!â Angelica shouted back. âI will never allow you to spread your darkness into Lacklanland. It ends here! You have only brought this on yourself!â
âFOOLISH GIRL! I AM ETERNAL! I AM EVERLASTING! I AM THE EDGE OF GOD AND YOU CANNOT DEFEAT ME! I AM THE ALPHA AND OMEGA! I AM THE SCAR OF THE WORLD AND THE END OF ALL THINGS! I AM MORE INEVITABLE THAN DEATH ITSELF!â
âThere is only one thing thatâs inevitable in this world, Edgy,â Angelica whispered as she once again raised the axe. âAnd thatâs that in the end, the good guys always win!â
She brought the axe down, and it cut through the muscular flesh of the heart, tearing it to shreds. A loud shriek emanated from its core, and it brought forth a shockwave that knocked Angelica to the ground. The axe clattered from her hand as the floor began to shake.
âMom!â
âMother!â
Angelicaâs cats ran into the base of the tower, before taking a look at the destroyed heart. Lil Has soon followed.
âThe few minions that have not been vanquished fled in terror,â the bunny said. âIt seems like we did it! Baby carrots for everybody!â
âFirst we gotta get out of here,â Bobby said. âThe tower is collapsing in on itself! Weâll be buried in the rubble.â
âNot if we hurry,â Ser Alex counter-argued. âTake Mother, quickly!â
Ser Bobby scooped up Angelica and they all ran out. The ground underneath their feet began to sank and the tower began to crumble under deafening noise.
âHop on one of the pigeons!â Lil Has exclaimed, and he followed his own advice. Ser Alex, Ser Bobby and Angelica all did the same and as the sinkhole spread, they flew up into the air, away from danger.
The Edge of God and the Protector of the Lockheart had been vanquished. Their quest was complete. Lacklanland was safe. Now, and forever.
-----------------------
Several hours later, at the edge of the forest
Angelica walked out of the forest. Lil Has was hopping right behind her, while Ser Bobby and Ser Alex were playing a little game of chase. Angelica bent over and picked Lil Has up, staring at the bunny.
âI canât believe you followed us all the way in there!â she said. âYou couldâve been hurt! How did you get out of the house anyway!â
âANG!â
Angelica looked up and saw an out of breath Milisandre Crowthorne run across the garden in her direction. There seemed to be a look of relief on Miliâs face.
Milisandre, like Angelica, was a good friend of Sarah and Kenzi. A fellow CoolKid and a connoisseur of most things alcoholic, she was currently rehabbing from an arm injury that had put her out of commission for a while. Angelica considered her a dear friend, and Mili had become a permanent resident here in Lacklanland.
âOh thank Cthulhu,â Mili said, referring to her weird false God. âYou found the little rascal. I couldnât find him anywhere. Sarah would, like, never forgive me if something had, like, happened to him.â
She pointed over at Lil Has who was resting in the palms of Angieâs hands. Angelica grinned and held him up.
âOh donât worry,â she said, âI think he can take very good care of himself.â
Mili obviously didnât really understand what Angelica meant, so she just shrugged. âFine, I guess.â She walked closer over to Angelica and put an arm around her friend as hey started walking back to the house.
âSo, like, whatâve you been up to? I havenât seen you, like, all day!â
Angelica giggled as she looked at Ser Bobby and Ser Alex who were now rolling around in the grass, enjoying a few rays of sunshine.
âOh⌠I donât think youâd believe me if I told you.â
âTry me.â
âWellllll, okay then. So this morning, there was a pigeon in my roomâŚâ
