In the hours prior to the first UGWC broadcast, Donovan is walking through the halls and drinking a Pepsi when he encounters Grey Coppi, long time backstage interviewer of the Lock Wrestling Federation, looking lost and confused.
Hastings: Well, look at what we have here.
Coppi looks up and sees him, and takes a step backwards.
Coppi: Hastings!
Hastings: Lord still suffices.
Coppi: I thought you quit after Phoenix beat you at Maximum Carnage!
Hastings: Then the rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated. It’s true, I left LWF after the disappointment that you’re talking about, but not because I am some coward. Rather, I had another priority that needed to be focused on. See, you just know me as the Donovan Hastings who spent years playing second fiddle to people like Fear, who I see is calling himself something different these days, Phoenix and Triple M as part of their supposed Legacy, and wasted time as the “royal knight” of Diablo, but there is a lot more to me. See, Grey, I’ve lived an entire other life.
Coppi: You? Dishonest? I can’t imagine.
Hastings: I’m going to let that one slide, because the truth is, I’m not the man you knew. You don’t know the Donovan Hastings of Global Impact Wrestling, the Hastings that endured months of persecution at the hands of a corrupt official, a referee that I have since shown the way and the light as a part of my entourage. You don’t know the tale of how I lost my love, Calypso Desmona, and had to fight to get her back, and the lengths that I went to and the lines I crossed to achieve it. You don’t know the story of how I became the Chief Nigga of GIW, how I became the co-Undisputed Global Champion.
Coppi: Co-Undisputed?
Hastings: It’s better if you don’t think about it too much. You know all about how in LWF, I won the World Title and successfully defended it in the Outlast Tournament. It’s nothing compared to what I’ve done in GIW. Last year, I won Battleground, perhaps the most difficult accomplishment to achieve in GIW. At Horizons, I reached the top of the mountain, when I defeated Travis Roberts in a Last Man Standing Match and ended his nearly year long reign with the title.
Coppi: Who beat you?
Hastings: What? Nobody.
Coppi: You don’t have the title with you now.
Hastings: Don’t be ridiculous. I have my Niglet carry it for me.
Coppi: Huh?
Hastings: Point is, all that talk I used to spout about becoming a legend and achieving immortality? I’ve done it. Look it up. In fact, I was the person who made the last stand for GIW against the Covenant at Dark Days, I led our Resistance against them.
Coppi: And you did such a great job that the company got bought out?
Donovan stares at him for a moment, then smiles and slaps him on the arm.
Hastings: Welcome to UGWC.
Donovan takes a sip of the soda and starts to walk away, but pauses and looks back.
Hastings: Who ended up with the World Title in the end?
Coppi: Fusion.
Donovan has no visible reaction.
Hastings: Interesting.
He walks away, as Coppi pulls out his map of the building and starts to study it.
