Fade From Black
Birth of Venus
Esquivel, Antonio María
From the black technological void of the screens before you electricity springs to action. Powering diodes and bulbs to life with color giving light, what was once empty is now filled with the image of the master work above. A still shot, it does not move but seemingly from the portrait a voice does a come. Soothing, feminine, matronly, this invisible siren fills your ears with an excerpt from Richard Kiley and Julie Harris' Selections of Greek Mythology
Aphrodite was the Goddess of Love & Beauty
So there are more stories told about her
than anyone else.
God or Mortal.
Being what she is, she enters others stories and such is the power of her magic girdle that he who even speaks her name,
Falls under her spell,
He loses his wits and begins to babble telling the same story over and over and in many different ways.
But all the tales agree she is the goddess of
Desire
Finished, that voice does fade and so to with it goes once vibrant light and color.

Do not fret, in seconds screens spring to life once more and immediately attentive eyes bare witness a nightmarish landscape. Dark and angry, blackened clouds tumble and twirl above as if warring among themselves. Flashes of whitest light flicker, hidden behind their veil, and llightning cracks the air as if weapons had collided. Their war cries are thunderous and rain pours endlessly, an infinite downpour of heavenly blood. The earth below welcomed it.
Beneath the battle for the sky an ocean rages with fanatic enthusiasm. Waves crashi, their noise resounding through air like applause. With each clash and cry of the heavens the sea reaches up foamed crest begging for more, begging the titans above to further the violence. They get what they want and war rages on until one final earth shattering cry emits from heaven. The sky grows still and clouds part as an object comets from them. Slain body, cut in pieces falls quick and with violent splash is given to the ocean.
In that instant all turns bright. The clouds turn back to white and separate one another. Only a melancholic haze of gray remains. Their war is over but the sea is not finished. Calming only slightly, what was once blue had turned brightest red, what was cool now boiled and foamed vehemently. It had taken it's defeated sacrifice and now devoured those remains. It lasted only seconds and eventually the tide resumed it's calm yet perpetual back and forth with land.
Our camera cuts from this ever changing landscaping focusing its lens from a coastline on an even calmer part of the sea. Where subtle waves were expected there was only lake like ripples, ripples formed by graceful footsteps created by an unexpected figure in the distance. Defying gravity this lithe silhouette crept closer, a newly born deity come to grace UGWC with its presence.
Atara Themis.
Aphrodite Incarnate.
Your Goddess.
On the beach the camera pans closer and closer to the smooth angles of her face are the only thing framed. Piercing Aegean blue orbs stare back while the supple pink flesh of her lips curl into the most mischievous of smiles. They part and from her throat a Grecian husk trickles like honey. Two words. It was all she would say.
"Hello Doves."
