Desert Emergency Services Report on Vespertine:
Earlier today, July 11th, 2022, a good distance away from the Wrestlestock grounds, one rookie wrestler from UGWC, by the name of Vespertine was hit with heat stroke and fainted on the trail. Also, as she fell backwards from the heat exhaustion, she fell on a scorpion which stung her on the outer upper thigh. Her boyfriend, James Rodriquez, was hiking with her at the time. They were 5 miles away from the Wrestlestock grounds and he carried her all the way back. Just in time as her heart almost gave out from the venom of the scorpion. Doctors have given her venom antidote and sedatives so she can rest for a few days. When asked, James recalled "I've seen large scorpions and small scorpions. This was medium size. I didn't freak out that much because I know the small ones are the most dangerous. I am however, glad, I hightailed it back to Wrestlestock. If I had lingered a bit longer, I think she wouldn't be alive."
The Desert Mobilility Center wants festival stock goers, roster, staff, participants of any sort to be aware of the dangers of the desert. High temperatures and blasting heat can give one unlucky person heat stroke, dehydration and 3rd degree burns (in the case of sun and no sunscreen.) But also be wary of habitats, flora and fauna when hiking out of Wrestlestock gates. Scorpions, millipeeds, rattlesnakes, sidewinder snakes, red ants are among the various wildlife one can encounter out here in the desert. Each has their own way of dealing with the environment and each has their preferred amount of toxin to inject into victims. Symptoms can range from mild discomfort to searing pain to paralysis and even death. Take extra precautions and give these desert dwellers a wide berth when happened upon.
We here at the DMC wish Vespertine the best of us luck and we wish all of you to be safe while here on the grounds at Wrestlestock or out in the Sonoran Desert.
