Name: Mark Matthews
Nickname: Joker.
Height: 6”2
Weight: 184lbs
Age: 34
Alignment: Heel.
Associates: Jerry (Agent, Shrink, General fall-guy and foil).
Hometown: Manchester, UK.
Appearance: Short, cropped dark brown hair, steely grey eyes with a low brow perpetually in a scowl. Thin, but with well-defined muscles, Joker stands tall and proud, although his pale complexion and relatively gaunt disposition make him appear frail.
Joker usually takes to the ring in black jeans cut off at the knee, combat boots, and a matching black t-shirt with an eight-pointed white star across the chest, with a yellow smiley-face at the centre, albeit upside-down.
Casually, the brit wears a dark t-shirt under a faded brown leather bomber jacket, usually complimented by fingerless leather gloves. He prefers dark jeans with bright keds for footwear.
Entrance Music: ‘"Free Your Hate" - K.M.F.D.M.
Entrance: A quick blackout, a hushed tone, and a gravel-like voice comments over the PA:
"The measure of an individual can be difficult to discern by actions alone. ”
A blast of noise as K.M.F.D.M.'s Free Your Hate blares out of the speakers. The lights come up, and Joker makes his way from behind the curtain, out to the ring. Jerry follows behind, adamantly waving to the crowd as if he were the celebrity. Joker, on the other hand, remains stoic, scowling and unimpressed.
Upon reaching the ring, Joker vaults up, climbing the nearest turnbuckle, and pounded his chest once, twice, three times, before climbing down. Jerry takes his position at ringside to watch over the events in the ring.
Fighting Style: Brutal but fast - Joker takes the idea of "Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee" to the nth degree. A great fan of getting in a quick hit, retreating safely, and striking again. An opportunist who loves to mix up high-flying and brute-force styles to keep an opponent off balance.
Most common move-sets: Drop-kicks, stationary kicks, high-flying moves, and generally anything that involves coming off of the ropes or a turnbuckle or equally elevated position for momentum. Swinging neckbreakers, jawbreakers, DDTs
Most common moves: DDT, Facebreaker, Missile Dropkick, Flying Elbow, Sitout Jawbreaker.
Primary Finisher: "The Last Laugh" - Double Knee Facebreaker.
Secondary Finisher: "In Stitches" - Scissors Kick.
Personality: Known for his often wry, frequently ironic, and sometimes outright dark sense of humour, Joker is one part parody, one part thug, all trouble. He skulks around like a hungry jackal, both inside and outside the ring. Keeping few alleigances besides Jerry, he's somewhat of a loner, preferring to jump ships for seemingly little reason, hinting at unstable motives. Coldly calm and self-possessed most times, but even the slightest incident can have him flying into an excitable rage.
Biography: Allegedly from Moss Side in Manchester (although his upper-class London accent would have you believe otherwise), Joker started his rounds in street gangs after leaving school in his late teens. His father drove trucks up and down Britain, leaving a marked absence in his life. His mother was arrested and imprisoned in Drake Hall, Staffordshire when he was 19.
After cleaning up and moving away to London, he made an effort to stay on the honest side and leave his gang roots behind, running two jobs - a warehouse assistant for a spare parts firm, and a freelancer at a comedy club. It didn't take him long to find his feet in London's darker side, frequently as house favourite in an underground boxing circuit.
At the age of 26, when the boxing circuit had all been broken up due to arrests, deaths, severe physical harm and dirty money, Joker headed stateside. Settling in at Newport, Maine, he contacted Jerry Hughes for therapy. The two have been strong friends' ever since, with Jerry helping Joker cope with his home problems, staying away from crime, and finding outlets for his energy. Jerry even moved in with Joker following his messy divorce.
Joker broke into the underground wrestling scene when he was 27, possessed of a ruthless determination and aggressive, yet flashy style. He eventually made his way as a respectable mid-carder for uCw, and afterwards HSW. At 29, his father died in an accident on the M11, forcing him to retire out of grief and to settle family affairs. Three years on, he returns to the game in better physical condition, although his mental state is somewhat questionable.
