The screen flickers for a few moments, static breaking through, and springs to life, but the image shown seems to be of a few floorboards. The camera rattles and turns, and shows the face of Phrxius Deimos.
‘Hello there.’
Phrixus is using a handheld camera and is pointing it at his own face, the image unsteady as his hand moves.
‘I present to you a scene familiar to our long time viewers…’
Phrixus chuckles briefly.
‘Perhaps the viewers of LWF will recall two summers ago, when the infamous Travis Pierce suffered a material loss that tore his fragile mind asunder. Pierce invited Matt Marauder into his fantasy realm, The Piercing Truth, and Triple M responded by obliterating not only the set but along with it, all of Pierce’s hopes and dreams. The rest of us could do little else but to pity the shell of a man whose fractured psyche drove him off the edge of madness. What did Pierce do in response?’
Phrixus grins.
’I present to you, your reminder. By hook or by crook, Pierce acquired for himself a handheld camera, and “reported” live to the world on the mundane happenings of whatever was happening at wherever he was at, not to mention carrying the camera to the ring with him, as he sank further and further into the darkness of his own mind. What was it that pulled Pierce back from the brink, our newer viewers ask?’
Phrixus laughs.
‘Pierce was “saved” by the Dirty South Franchise, a group of thugs led by a Mafia-backed bully named Darius Jermaine. Teamed with Chance Chesney and calling themselves the Confederate Truth, Pierce was part of a revolution, apparently to have the South rise again. It was only through the efforts of myself and my allies, the unity of the Lunatic Fringe, that was able to silence this group once and for all. Pierce slinked back to a rebuilt set, and reinserted himself into the good graces of the world.’
Phrixus shakes his head.
‘Now this man has been put into position where you may be able to elect him as the challenger to the World Heavyweight Title, and a match with Donovan Hastings, a match that is mine by right. Each week the sheep tune into Pierce’s farce of a broadcast, ignorant of his past misdeeds, or worse, perhaps they do not care. It comforts me that the qualifier on Synergy will be left to us to determine the outcome, and not a public vote that Pierce can sway with another foolish campaign, like his propaganda against Kiseragi. This is a man with no shame, live or otherwise. You must see him for who he is, who he has been, see the piercing truth about The Piercing Truth.’
Phrixus chuckles, amused with himself.
‘I will protect you all from you own ignorance. Pierce will not be an option, his star to be snuffed out on Synergy, in Millennial Decay. Then, I will remind the world why Hastings is mine, and mine alone. This concludes our live report.’
Phrixus grins.
‘Scene.’
His laughter can be heard as the camera is lowered and the image returns to static.
