The white walls hard been darkened to a grey, as the lights began flickering and, soon enough, died completely. Cara Costello's body shivered, as her skin tightened with goose bumps. She had never felt so cold in her entire life. A jagged figure, wrapped in a sterile whit coat approached her and she felt herself become even colder.
"He's ready to see you now. You can't stay for long though, he needs to rest."
Cara nodded silently and rose to her feet. She moved several feet down the hallway, before entering a room to her right. She gasped, as she saw the bandaged corpse lying on the bed in front of her. The figure was covered from head-to-toe in white fabric, except for two, hollow, blue eyes staring at her.
"Jeez, you look like you've seen a ghost," the figure on the bed whispered hollowly.
Declan Prescott slowly extended his bandaged hand to Cara, groaning with discomfort as he did so. She instantly wrapped both her hands around his and squeezed as tightly as she could.
"The doctor told me you're going to be fine!" Cara squeaked. "Apart from a couple of scars, you'll be good as new! It'll take time though..."
"He told me that too, Cara," Declan responded.
The bandages on Declan's face contorted, indicating he was smiling beneath them. Cara climbed on top of him and rested her head on his shoulder, Declan groaned uncomfortably every time she made a movement. He didn't, however, say a single word in complaint.
"You know what you have to do now, don't you?" he asked.
"I can't," she hissed.
"Yes, you can."
"No, no, no!" Cara pleaded, shaking her head vehemently. "I'm not strong like you, Declan! I can't do it!"
"That's a lie," he replied, very calmly. "You're the bravest person I know."
"Only when I'm with you!"
"Cara..." Declan wheezed, clearly struggling to maintain consciousness. "GIW... It's in... Your hands now... I'm not saying it'll... Be easy... They'll come at you sidewards... Try and catch you off guard... You have to be strong! If you can't do it... The company... The dream... It will all die..."
Cara's eyes filled with tears, at the sight of her beloved in so much pain. She pressed her hands to his cheeks and kissed him on his bandaged forehead.
"I can't do it alone though," she whimpered. "You told me I wouldn't have to be alone anymore!"
"I... Have an idea..."
