[Hundreds of people are gathered in a room, dressed in their finest Tuxedo’s and Little Black Dresses, all standing facing a stage, where the legendary Foo Fighters are performing a set. It’s the not the usual crowd that Dave Grohl and the boys are used to rocking out in front of, but regardless they are giving their all in front of this dignified crowd. After a few moments a group of what can only be described as ‘roadies’ come onto the stage and set up a podium and microphone. After a few more moments we see Craig Futile take to the stage and The Foo’s cease playing as he approaches the podium.]
Craig – “Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you so much for joining us here for this night of celebration, without any further adieu, it is my honour and delight to introduce you to GIW’sNew Global Heavyweight Champion, Travis Roberts!”
[With this the Foo Fighters take their cue to launch into their song ‘My Hero’ as ‘The Blessed One’ takes to the stage, the crowd begins to applaud with vigour, and then from the roof falls many green and black balloons accompanied by much tic-a-tape and streamers . The Headliner appears in his usual black leather jacket and jeans get up, but for the first time we see him with The Global Heavyweight Title resting on his right shoulder. He spreads his arms to the crowd, with a huge unmoving smile plastered across his face, soaking in the congratulations. After a minute or so, he moves to the podium, shakes Craig Futiles hand, and waits for the Foo Fighters to finish the final chords of the song.]
Travis – “Thank You! Thank you all so much for such a warm reception. It is a great honour to be able to stand here in front of you all tonight and say to you all…we did it! And it’s true we could not have done it without you all, the people that really drive Global Impact Wrestling, the people that keep this company growing, you the Sponsors, the investors, the TV Executives…you are the reason Global Impact Wrestling keeps going from strength to strength, an Travis Roberts guarantee’s he will not let you all down!”
[The statement initiates a huge cheer from the crowd of big wigs that have crowded into the hall. Travis motions for them to cease their shows of appreciation for him]
Travis – “In times past, The Global Heavyweight Champions of GIW have not served you well, hell they haven’t served themselves well. ‘The Headliner’ will not make the same mistakes, Travis Roberts will not ease up now that ‘The Blessed One’ has reached the pinnacle of the business, the ‘TWiSTeD High Commander’ knows that the easy part has been accomplished; now the hard work starts.
Suddenly the other GIW ‘Super’ stars can no longer bury their heads in the sand; they can no longer hope to avoid ‘The Blessed One’ if they want to make it to the top. Travis Roberts now stands at the top of the mountaintop, looking down on the rest as they all struggle to reach the peak themselves, confident in the knowledge that unlike those before him ‘The Blessed One’ has the ability to represent the Global Heavyweight Championship as it should be. Hunting season has just begun, and ‘The Headliner’ is the prize catch, ‘The TWiSTeD Guerrilla’ will be heavily stalked in the coming weeks and months.
It’s one thing to become the Highest Standard in GIW, it is quite another thing to maintain that position. In the months past The Global Heavyweight Champions of GIW have been overshadowed by those beneath them, the likes of Brandon Brown, Lord, Deathman and Komosube have been outclassed each and every week by the likes of Randy Boolzian, Declan Prescott and Yours Truly. But those times are at an end, finally after months of patience and reassurances from The Revolution, Global Impact Wrestling finally has a Global Heavyweight Champion worthy of representing this company as its very best, and ready for the challenge that lies ahead.
The Revolution has been true to its word, and a NeW eRa is upon us. Our next Pay-Per-View will take us from these shores for the first time in the company’s history, and Travis Roberts will be at the helm as this ship descends into unknown waters. Whilst the likes of Randy Boolzian, Chris Austin, Alex Kiseragi and Komosube are relatively unknown to the world, ‘The Headliner’ is a global brand, the fans will turn out in droves to see GIW’s Number One Superstar defend the Global Heavyweight Title, and each and every one of you, will make a killing.
In this time of economical uncertainty, there are only two things you can trust in, oil….and ‘The Blessed One’!”
[Travis takes a step back from the podium and the crowd erupts into frenzied applause, some members of this, until now, dignified crowd begin to whistle and holler. Travis raises his hands in acknowledgement as the Foo Fighters begin playing ‘My Hero’ once more, and he walks off stage into the wings with the crowd still cheering.
Backstage in the corridor awaits eD cASe, Travis Roberts’ downtrodden agent. He shuffles his feet nervously, and looks at his watch a few times. When Travis walks around the corner, carrying his Global Heavyweight Title over one shoulder, the little man leaps half a foot in the air and begins to speak…]
eD – “What took you so long! That was just meant to be a quick thank you, we’ve got a fan festival to attend, and you’re going to be late, you cannot let the fans down…”
Travis – “Are you implying that GIW’s fans wouldn’t wait around for their Global Heavyweight Champion? Hell, that may well have been true in the past, ‘The Blessed One’ cannot imagine many people hung around to be verbally abused by Komosube, or took much time out of their day to observe General D-Mike’s lame magic tricks…but now they are waiting for Travis Roberts, and everyone knows that’s worth the wait…”
eD – “Still, you could pick up the pace a little bit, we’ve got 2 more appointments after the fan fest as well, you really were only meant to show your face here, this wasn’t that important…”
Travis – “Are you insane? The guys I just spent time with are the driving force behind GIW, they are the money men, the reason GIW gets such lucrative sponsorship deals, the reason we can go Global…”
eD – “But the fans are already dubious of you Travis, you gotta make sure you treat them with respect…”
Travis – “Seriously little man, you better keep an eye over your shoulder for a Man in a White Coat, keep speaking like that and they’ll be sure to take you away sooner rather than later. Why would ‘The Blessed One’ care about what the ignorant mass of pond life that attends those fan fests thinks over the intelligent, successful businessmen in the room Travis Roberts just left? For TWiSTeD’s sake it’s 2pm on a Thursday afternoon…don’t these ‘fans’ have jobs to go to?”
eD – “Some of them booked the day off work to get to meet the Global heavyweight Champion…true they kinda hoped they’d be meeting the Japanese Powerhouse…”
Travis – “Is that meant to convince ‘The Blessed One’? You’re telling ‘The Highest Standard in GIW’ that the guys you are rushing him to meet, would rather meet the guy The Revolution made a mockery of?”
eD – “All the more reason to go and meet them, come on dude, you charm anyone you meet, hell if the entire GIW fan base actually got a chance to meet you they’d all be fans!”
Travis – “Travis Roberts has enough fans, in all the right places, who the hell wants the adulation of the same reprobates that purchased Sean Jensen T-Shirts? ‘The Blessed One’ doesn’t need to prove himself to those fans, the gold that rests on ‘The Headliners’ shoulder is all the proof needed. If for they believe that anyone else is more worthy of the Global Heavyweight Championship there really is no hope for them! For the second Pay-Per-View in a row Travis Roberts has forced his opponent to flee the scene in humiliation…’The Blessed One’ wonders whether Komosube has joined Deathman on the road doing Kids Parties? D-Mike on the magic tricks, and Aito Chen doing the catering, that’s sitcom pilot right there! Seriously though, if the fans genuinely believe that the likes of those two failures are more deserving of leading GIW into its NeW DaWn, then ‘The Highest Standard in GIW’ is more than happy to let Randy Boolzian get their adulation, and he can deal with them…”
eD – “Doesn’t it bother you that he’s the guy the fans cheer for, he was the one that received the standing ovation at the end of the Battleground match…he’s also the guy that beat you on your first Pay-Per-View back. He shows little or no respect for The Revolution, and the fans see that, and they in turn show you no respect…”
Travis – “Does Travis Roberts have to explain everything to you? The Revolution don’t need and certainly don’t want the respect of those drooling window lickers, their money will do. They can scream their lungs out for Randy Boolzian all they want, it doesn’t change the way The Revolution will go about getting business done. Their support of Randy Boolzian is not what got GIW its first overseas Pay-Per-View, that was The Revolution…”
eD – “Still the guys who support Randy are starting to speak of plots, it’s all over the net, they wanna know why one of the guys he beat last week, will be getting a shot at your title before him?”
Travis – “More evidence of their inadequate mental functions. When Randy Boolzian won at Battlegrounds he got himself the match of his choice at Horizons. Now it may come as a shock to many of the simpletons that idolise BoolZ, but there is still one more Pay-Per-View show before that. Now past Global Heavyweight Champions may have been happy just to take a month off from defending this belt if given the opportunity, who knows, but ‘The Blessed One’ recognises that. With Komosube running off home to his momma and forfeiting his rematch clause, what else were The Revolution meant to do? The four guys in the battle royal at Sentinel damn well near killed themselves to get a shot in the ring with Travis Roberts, who better to get the chance of doing so at Distant Whispers? Captain Saviour? Dylan James? Marlo the Beautiful?
Travis Roberts recognises that a man so insecure in his own abilities that he’s fearful of his girlfriends success, another who has failed not once but twice in defending the very title that adorns Travis Roberts , a sex addict going through a crisis of confidence and a rookie who has yet to find his feet, are not on the face of things truly formidable opponents, but they are symptomatic of the problems The Revolution are addressing in GIW; a lack of any true superstars.
The best option was also unworkable, the only man who could truly give Travis Roberts a run for his money at Distant Whispers, is The Significant Player himself. Whilst Declan Prescott is not blessed like Travis Roberts, he’s the only man who could give ‘The Blessed One’ a Global Heavyweight Championship match of epic proportions. But The Revolution has enough foresight to realise that such a move would lead to calls of conspiracies from those who blind themselves from the truth.
So at Distant Whispers when Travis Roberts retains the title and moves on to Horizons, when the fans complain that he faced no ‘real’ challenge, it will be their own fault. When the morons in the back complain that The Revolution stacked the deck in their own advantage, the truth is, if it wasn’t for their window licking ways, Travis Roberts would have faced a true challenge… “
eD – “But despite all this, does it feel good, to be Global Heavyweight Champion…”
Travis – “Despite the sense of inevitability that surrounded Travis Roberts’ crowning on Saturday Night, ‘The Blessed One’ is proud, but would not claim to feel ‘good’. For months ‘The Blessed One’ has held himself as ‘The Highest Standard in GIW’, ‘The Headliner’ has upstaged every Global Heavyweight Champion to wrestle on the same card as ‘The TWiSTeD Icon’, and at Battleground Travis Roberts proved his indeed the man to beat in GIW. Now that this title rests on my shoulder, the rest of GIW will be forced to look to me as the flag bearer. ’The Blessed One’ feels an enormous sense of responsibility, for it is Travis Roberts’ duty to raise the level of competition here in Global Impact Wrestling. Whether or not the fans, or the guys in the back like ‘The Blessed One’, it is ‘The Highest Standard in GIW’s role to ensure they respect the title he carries, and that they are forced to compete on a higher level than ever before. ‘The Blessed One’ must continue to prove, week in, week out, that he is the most creative, ingenious, consistent and dominant Global Heavyweight Champion this company has ever had.”
eD – “Nice to see you looking at this with a level head for a change, so you think you can be a worthy champion, and prove week in week out you deserve it…”
Travis – “Who the hell can stop ‘The Blessed One’? They might all finally realise they gotta beat ‘The Highest Standard in GIW’ if they wanna reach the top, sure it’s a hell of a responsibility to have, and ‘The Headliner’ feels the pressure. But don’t mistake ‘The Highest Standard in GIW’s’ thoughtful, intelligent ponderings as a weakness; ‘The Headliner’ is by far the most qualified individual in GIW to take on those responsibilities, and has proven that for months now, nothing is gonna change little man, apart from, maybe, just maybe, the likes of yourself will begin to trust that Travis Roberts always knows exactly what he’s doing.”
[eD looks at his watch again, and his eyes widen…]
eD – “SHIT! We’ve been here so long we won’t make that fan fest in time, I’m gonna have to see if they can get someone who’s closer to go instead….I don’t think we’ll make our other appointments now….”
[Travis smiles, reaches into his top pocket and pulls out one of his pre-rolled delicacies, he lights it, inhales deeply and then blows the smoke up towards the ceiling, and starts walking down the corridor]
Travis – “Travis Roberts always knows exactly what he’s doing.”
Craig – “Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you so much for joining us here for this night of celebration, without any further adieu, it is my honour and delight to introduce you to GIW’sNew Global Heavyweight Champion, Travis Roberts!”
