Donovan sits at the desk in his locker room, intently studying the book before him, the journal of Phrixus Deimos, stolen near the end of Synergy in a carefully laid trap.
Calypso enters, sipping a soda, and she places a second can next to Donovan. After a moment, he picks it up and takes a sip, not breaking his gaze from the book.
Calypso: What do you think?
Hastings: It’s incredible. I don’t know if he’s insane or a genius. Probably both.
Donovan turns a page.
Hastings: It’s almost as though he intended it to be read.
Peterson enters, a stunned look on his face.
Calypso: You okay?
Peterson: They have a facebook page dedicated to getting me elected as a weapon…
Hastings: Yeah, I started that.
Peterson: You what?
Hastings: I told you, full support.
Peterson throws up his hands and turns to the side, stopping when he sees a newly placed throne in the room.
Peterson: You had the throne moved?
For the first time, Donovan breaks his gaze with the book, glancing at the throne.
Hastings: Nah, got a new one.
Peterson: Why didn’t you just have yours moved from the apartment?
Hastings: Are you kidding? It smells of eD. It’s not something that bothers you in the moment, but you don’t want to take it with you. Besides, what if we are back there at some point, am I to be without a throne? I think not. Let’s keep thinking logically, here.
Peterson: Right.
He takes a seat on the couch, looking distraught.
Calypso: What about Raenius?
Hastings: You think he has a journal I can steal too?
Calypso: He’s got a following. It’s hard to forget what he did to you at Infinity. What if he wins the vote?
Hastings: We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. It remains to be seen just how serious Raenius is about this, if he has the courage to match his convictions. I welcome his challenge, because this time he’ll be doing it on his own. If he even gets the chance.
Peterson: You have to face both of them on Synergy, and partner with Felix. I bet he’s pissed.
Hastings: Why, because I took him out with Destiny’s Call? That wasn’t personal and he shouldn’t take it as such. I mean, if I wanted to be an asshole, I’d have put him in the Hands of Fate, and I didn’t do that. He should be able to appreciate that.
Calypso: So what’s next?
Donovan studies another page of the journal.
Hastings: Niglet?
Peterson: Lord-Chief?
Hastings: Fetch my crayola.
Calypso enters, sipping a soda, and she places a second can next to Donovan. After a moment, he picks it up and takes a sip, not breaking his gaze from the book.
