[He raised his hand to the door, but could not bring himself to wrap his knuckles against the wood. Things had seemed to have been getting back to normal, life was starting to make sense again, and he had finally been able to see the end of this dark and uncomfortable journey. They had reunited, they had put behind them the mistakes and misjudgements of the past and were once again ready to manipulate the future together. But then it had all gone wrong, in the briefest of moments his newly rediscovered hopes were replaced by a new sense of despair. And now, once again he felt lost, helpless and alone. He lowered his hand from the door, resigned to the fact he could do no good, he was of no use here.
As he turned to go away, another part of his mind fired into action and he was suddenly overcome by indignation and fire. This part of his psyche refused to let him run and hide from this, as he’d been doing for weeks now, it was time for a change, and he knew it. He turned back to the door, took a deep breath and wrapped his knuckles against the wood three times. There was no turning back now, he’d committed himself to whatever battle lay beyond those doors. He stood in anticipation and the door soon swings open...and his heart sank at the site that greeted him]
‘TRAVEEEEES!!!’
[There stood before ‘The Headliner’ was the world’s biggest contraceptive mistake since Sean Jensen, none other than Brandon McSkinny. The emaciated excuse for a human being shuffled his feet in front of ‘The Blessed One’, and pushed his glasses back to the top of the bridge of his nose]
‘I knew you’d come to talk tactics with your badass tag partner...’
[Travis looks down at Skinny, and expels a huge sign from his mouth. His eyes widen and he looks visibly distressed by his greeter, he then pats his upper pocket in a panicked manner and then lets out a sigh of relief as he takes out a pre-rolled and lights it. After his first lungfull of his own personal relaxant Travis Roberts brushes past Brandon and starts making his way assuredly into the apartment. Brandon shuts the door and begins scurrying behind ‘The Blessed One’]
‘So what we gonna call our team partner?’
[Travis ignores Skinny and speeds his walk into the main reception area of The Prescott’s condo. He makes a beeline for the couch and sits down heavily. Brandon also sits down, trying to replicate ‘The Blessed Ones’ nonchalant behaviour, but misjudges his landing and ends up toppling over the back of the sofa. Travis merely glances sideways, rolls his eyes, reaches into his pocket and lights a second pre-rolled to join the one that sits within his mouth already
Within a few short moments the door to the Prescott’s bathroom opens and Cara comes walking out. At first she is unaware of Travis’ presence and she sniffles and wipes her red eyes, When she see’s Travis a smile breaks across her face, and she attempts to compose herself.]
Cara – ‘Travis! You don’t know how pleased I am to see you...Declan has...well...I just don’t recognise him Travis. He’s been so...distant since Sentinel...maybe you can get through to him...’
[Travis takes another toke on each roll up and then responds]
Travis – ‘Travis Roberts got your message, and he wasn’t about to leave his best friends wife in distress. But if ‘The Headliner’ is going to be honest with you, ‘The Blessed One’ has no idea what he can do..’
Cara – ‘Please Travis, he’ll listen to you, you know the business, the industry...he won’t open up to me. Probably because he doesn’t think I know enough about the business...’
Travis – ‘It’s not that ‘The TWiSTeD Icon’ doesn’t want to help, but it’s doubtful Declan wants to see Travis Roberts. The Significant Player left the arena on Saturday without saying a word to ‘The Blessed One’. So much for the triumphant reunion of ‘The Revolution’, that goddamn penguin ruined everything. What the hell is that overgrown duck doing in LA anyway, ‘The TWiSTeD Guerrilla’ would have thought such a ‘dangerous’ gangland criminal would have better things to do than break up friendships...’
Cara – ‘I’m sure that’s not the case...look let me tell Declan you are here, hopefully that’ll get him out of this state...’
[Cara turns and walks towards the bedroom door, she taps lightly on the door and pokes her head around, after repeating the owner of GIW’s name a few times she cautiously enters the room closing the door quietly behind her.
At this point Brandon makes his way up from the floor behind the sofa, and takes his place on the sofa next to Travis Roberts. ‘The Headliner’ does his best to avoid eye contact with GIW’s one time Man Champ]
Skinny – ‘I’ve been practicing taking bumps, that’s why I was so quick getting up...you don’t have to worry about Saturday you know. I’ll have your back, and Declan himself trained me, so you know I’m a solid partner. Skinny and T-Rob...headlining Sentinel...it’s going to be sick!’
[Travis places one roll up in his mouth, and with his free hand takes a third from his top pocket and swaps it for the one in his mouth and lights it]
Skinny – ‘You know GIW’s first ever man champ can smoke like Cheech and Chong, I do bongs, pipes, even vaporisers, Brandon McSkinny could be your number one smoking companion’
[‘The Blessed One’ rolls his eyes, turns to Skinny and exhales directly into his partner for Saturday’s main events face. Brandon almost instantly doubles over and rolls off the sofa, landing headfirst on the floor. ‘The Headliner’ merely glances down at Brandon, shakes his head, and takes another drag on one of his three roll ups.
The door to the bedroom opens and Cara Costello walks out, still sniffling slightly, she closes the door behind her and leans back against it. Travis looks towards her and stands, not saying a word. She takes a deep breath and tries to speak...]
Cara – ‘He...he...he told me...to fuck off! I’m sorry I called you Travis, it seems your right, he’s just being a jerk...you might as well go...’
Travis – ‘Hey Declan may be in a bad way right now, but believe Travis Roberts when he tells you he’s been there, sometimes ya need a different perspective....maybe ‘The Headliner’ and yourself are just too close to the situation at hand to help. But none of it changes the fact that he’s your husband, and Travis Roberts’ best friend, and ‘The Blessed One’ ain’t in the habit of leaving his best friends wives on their own when they are upset...’
Cara – ‘No....it’s fine, you probably have better things to do, I’m fine...I’m not alone...Skinny is here...’
Travis – ‘Exactly, what kind of human being would Travis Roberts be if he left you in this state, with only that to look after you? Declan wouldn’t take kindly to that I’m sure...’
Cara – ‘And that’d be his problem! I can’t believe I called you, you have your own problems...’
Travis – ‘Now don’t you go worrying about ‘The TWiSTeD Icon’, ‘The Revolution’ is more than just having each other’s back in the ring, sure Declan may not wanna speak to ‘The TWiSTeD Guerrilla’ right now, but that sure as hell don’t mean ‘The Headliner’ can’t make sure you’re ok. Hell you guys have a deranged cop stalking you, Travis Roberts ain’t going anywhere...besides ‘The Headliner’ is pretty sure that damn Penguin has secret entrances built into ‘The Blessed Ones’ abode...’
Cara – ‘Everytime I look at him, I’m sure all he see’s is Maguire, and this mess I got us into...and now...what if...what if he’s decided it’s not worth the effort....not worth the stress...the danger....what if he has realised he doesn’t want me anymore?’
[Cara starts to cry and she leans forward onto Travis’ shoulder...Travis stands roll up in each hand, and one in his mouth, looking decidedly uncomfortable. After a moment Cara tries to compose herself, and Travis takes the roll up from his mouth and speaks]
Travis – ‘Sometimes ‘The Blessed One’ has to wonder if everyone that surrounds him is prone to momentary retardation. Can you hear the drivel you just spoke? ‘The Blessed One’ is sorry if that sounded harsh but it’s the honest truth. Regardless of whatever mood ‘The Significant Player’ is in...you...and only you Cara, are his entire world. He does everything he does, for you, to make you happy, to keep you safe and to make you proud...don’t ever doubt that truth, because if he thought you did, it would destroy him...’
[Cara looks up, and her eyes are alight with hope]
Cara – ‘Really? Did he say that to you?’
Travis – ‘No...’The Blessed One’ just knows...’
Cara – ‘That’s silly, how can you just know something like that?’
Travis – ‘Because...well...Declan and ‘The Blessed One’ are very different in many aspects, but in others we share common values and beliefs. Let’s just leave it as ‘The Blessed One’ knows these things...maybe Declan just needs some space...’
Cara – ‘Maybe...I do have another plan though, so we’ll see. Anyway, let’s not talk about this anymore...how are you doing, Declan told me all about the last couple of weeks, the divorce...you must be really angry at that layabout Randy Boolzian...’
Travis – ‘It’s not a good Idea to mention that deceitful, unethical, immoral piece of donkey scrotum’s name in the presence of Travis Roberts at the moment...’
Cara – ‘I gotta say I don’t think anyone expected him to do this. Sure you guys have always had your differences, but to do this to someone you have to work with every week, just shows a real lack of respect and dignity...’
Travis – ‘Damn right. You don’t have to tell that to ‘The Headliner’, there are lines you just do not cross...’
Cara – ‘I guess it shouldn’t surprise any of us, I’ve always known that he was a disgrace the moment he stepped foot in Declans office. I never pegged him as a coward though, a real man would have told you to your face...not let that Damn penguin reveal his sordid dealings to the entire world live on TV...’
Travis – ‘You’re damn right he’s a coward, how long has he been hiding this from ‘The Headliner’? And he hid it from ‘The TWiSTeD Icon’ because he knew damn well that Travis Roberts would be pissed off...’
Cara – ‘Pissed off? I imagine that’s an understatement, it is one hell of a betrayal to deal with even though you were not friends. You just don’t do that to another person. That kind of betrayal stings, and the pain never really heals...’
Travis – ‘You get it! Sometimes Travis Roberts gets the occasional doubt that he is blowing things out of proportion, that maybe ‘The Headliner’ should just accept that what’s done, is done. But deep down, there is no doubt, and that treacherous piece of coyote faeces will get his comeuppance...’
Cara – ‘And no-one would begrudge you your revenge...not even his most hardened fans would think you were out of line if you caved his head in...’
Travis – ‘You know when eD first got me into the main event at Horizons, ‘The Headliner’ really didn’t see the point, but now not only will ‘The Blessed One’ finally introduce some much needed charisma , personality and sense of importance to GIW’s biggest PPV’s main event, but he’ll also get the chance to make Randy Boolzian pay for disrespecting ‘The Headliner’... and his sink.’
Cara – ‘Your sink?!?!?’
Travis – ‘Sure...what the hell did you think we were talking about?’
Cara – ‘The fact Randy Boolzian is banging your ex-wife Mary-Joanna...’
Travis – ‘So?’
Cara – ‘That’s more disrespectful than stealing your sink...that is nmore worthy of a vengeful bloodlust on your part!’
Travis – ‘Travis Roberts feels more sorry for Randy in that respect, but it’s probably a slice of karmic retribution being handed out to Randy...for stealing my damn sink. Honestly ‘The Blessed One’ wouldn’t wish that cold, heartless, bloodsucker of a woman on his worst enemy, but if Randy Boolzian wants to let his dick rot off inside of her poisonous body, that’s his problem. When she finally gets what she wants, and leaves him a shattered bag of bones, maybe he’ll realise he really shouldn’t have stolen ‘The Blessed Ones’ sink...’
Cara – ‘Look you don’t fool me Travis, I know ya gotta be hurting deep down at the fact that someone like Boolz is screwing around with Mary-Jo. It’s got to be eating away at your insides, when you talk about Randy Boolzian you heart starts to race, you become enraged...that’s because of love, not some damn sink...’
Travis – ‘He didn’t even use it...’
Cara – ‘What?’
Travis – ‘He didn’t even use the sink...in the match...he broke into Travis Roberts house, demolished half of one of his kitchen, stole ‘The Blessed Ones’ sink...and didn’t even use it!’
Cara – ‘Seriously Travis, be angry at him about Mary-Jo, not this damn sink...for Christ’s sake he stole our sink too...’
Travis – ‘Yeah, but that wasn’t ‘The Headliners’ sink...’
Cara – ‘A sinks a sink Travis, you wash your hands, clean the dishes in it...it’s nothing special...’
Travis – ‘You just don’t understand, but ‘The Headliner’ doesn’t blame you, you have never had a sink like ‘The Blessed Ones’ sink. You couldn’t possibly comprehend what ‘The Headliner’ is feeling.
Travis Roberts bought that sink when he got his first, big money, contract with GIW, ‘The Headliner’ finally had the kitchen he’d always dreamed of. The solid marble counters, which BoolZ managed to destroy, and a sink that gleamed in the sunlight, the only sink that reflected the image of ‘The Blessed Ones’ face perfectly.
It was in that sink that ‘The TWISTeD Guerrilla’ washed the blood from his hands after uniting the Fight Club Championship with the World Wrestling for the TWISTeD World Championship. It was in that sink that Travis Roberts first saw the reflection of a true Champion.
You see, Cara, you just can’t comprehend these feelings. That sink stayed by ‘The Headliners’ side through the good and bad, hell it was still there when ‘The Blessed One’ awoke from a coma, it hadn’t ran off and found some rich producers kitchen to settle in.
And what respect did Randy show ‘The Headliners’ sink? He tore it out, dragged it away from ‘The Blessed One’ and then discarded it without a second thought, probably laughing, smoking and supping his Red Bull whilst doing it. The feelings of Travis Roberts probably never entered into his deviant mind at all...’
[Cara tilts her head at Travis and raises her eyebrows, he meets her gaze and raises his eyebrows awaiting whatever his best friends wife has to say]
Cara – ‘You’re right I’ve never had such an attachment to the sink, but if you say that’s what is upsetting you, then I’m not going to argue. We gotta support one another now that that damn penguin has moved in...’
Travis – ‘’The Blessed One’ is confident ‘The Revolution’ shall overcome, our strength was never in how much power we wielded, our strength came from the fact we could run circles round everyone else intellectually, no-one in GIW had the capacity to keep up with ‘The Revolution’, never mind being one step ahead, we were miles ahead of them. Travis Roberts doubts the introduction of a gun toting duck is gonna make much of a difference...’The Revolution’ just has to adapt.’
[Cara looks towards the door, and then back at Travis tears forming in her eyes]
Cara – ‘But what if Declan doesn’t come out...and what if when he does he’s packed his bags?’
[Before Cara can completely dissolve into an hysterical mess a knock comes from the front door and she shuffles off, holding the tears back. Travis turns and sits down]
Travis – ‘Good Work Trav. You did a great job looking after her, tears and everything’
[Travis puts his head back, contemplating where his best efforts to comfort Cara went wrong. But just as he tries to concentrate, Skinny peels his cheek from the floor and springs back onto the sofa, smiling wildly at Travis. ‘The Blessed One’ realises his only choice is to light up the three roll ups once more...]
Skinny – ‘See! Skinny is hardcore, light that shit, smoke that shit, pass that shit...’
[At this point Cara returns with a stranger, a man in his fifties, who glances towards Travis and speaks, but ‘The Blessed One’ doesn’t catch it due to Skinny’s continuing blabbering]
Skinny – ‘ We’re gonna demonstrate some made tag skillz, Boss Penguin is gonna be sorry he put us together, Savana, Brandon and Deathman are gonna be devastated by The Blessed One and Brandon McSkinny!’
[Travis meets the man’s gaze]
Woodward – ‘Travis Roberts,’
Travis – ‘And you would be?’
Woodward – ‘My name isn’t important. What’s he doing here, anyway?’
[The man turns his attention away from Travis back to Cara, and after a few moments he goes into the bedroom. Cara returns...]
Cara – ‘I hope it works out alright... I hope Woodward can get through to Declan...’
Travis – ‘In ‘The Blessed Ones’ experience, things ultimately work out in Travis Roberts favour. Take next week’s sentinel for example, to many ‘The Headliner’ faces an upward struggle teaming with a half brained dimwit against three professional wrestlers. But ultimately all Saturday night will prove, again, is that ‘The Headliner’ is just too much for the likes of Andy Savana, and the apparently returning Lord Deathman. Is Travis Roberts really the one saddled with the dead weight, or is Brandon Brown? Brown knows he’ll never beat me on his own, but ‘The Headliner’ doubts he’s retarded enough to think Andy Savana or Lord, Deathman are gonna be any help to his cause. It’s highly improbable that Deathman has picked anything up on the children’s party circuit that will make him anymore dangerous than before, and Andy Savana is too busy battling with life’s difficult issues, such as which shoe goes on which foot, to pose a threat to handicapped toddler. So ultimately on Saturday, Boss Penguin is gonna find out how difficult it really is trying to work amongst these mouth breeders , and that his ‘clever plans’ will merely have hindered his buddy Brandon’s hopes.
And in a few moments, Travis Roberts is sure, that door will swing open, and ‘The Revolution will start to make Boss Penguins life a little less comfortable...’
[Skinny leaps to his feet and starts to thrust his pelvis backwards and forwards rapidly]
Skinny – ‘HELL YEAH! TRAVEEEEEEES HAS SPOKEN!!!’
[Travis rolls his eyes, and swiftly places all three roll ups into his mouth and lights them all, whilst trying to keep the crotch thrusting Skinny out of his eye line. Only a few seconds later the door swings open, and Declan steps out from the room beyond]
As he turned to go away, another part of his mind fired into action and he was suddenly overcome by indignation and fire. This part of his psyche refused to let him run and hide from this, as he’d been doing for weeks now, it was time for a change, and he knew it. He stood in anticipation and the door soon swings open...and his heart sank at the site that greeted him]
