Here in Florida a ballsy pastor is set on holding a Quran (Muslim bible) bonfire. And it will be on the ninth anniversary of 9/11. My question is what you think about it? I believe it would be a big fuck you to the Taliban and other radicals but it will be the same fuck you to the non-radical muslims. The only reason I'm against it is because I'm also against the Ground Zero Mosque. It's not just in bad taste it's just immoral. We arent at war with the violent relgion of Islam but with terrorists. Your thoughts?

Wasn't one of the original principles of the founding of the USA the basis of being able to practice religion without persecution?
Also one thing a lot of people have got to understand is that their are millions upon millions of Muslims's who are peaceful and have NOTHING to do with terrorism. Burning the Koran disrespects them, and also just plays straight into the hands of the radicals.
Lumping all Muslim's together is just wrong. It's the same as suggesting every Catholic is a Paedophile based on the actions of a small minority.
And personally i think a BIGGER fuck you to extremists would be to actually build a Mosque near Ground Zero (It's not actually being built AT ground Zero it is a few blocks away, and within those blocks their are a handful of Strip Clubs and Adult Stores, how come they aren't seen as outrageous?). It would show, that no matter what fanatics do to the USA, no matter how hard they try to break you, you have your principles. In many ways the furore around the Mosque makes much of their work a success, because as a country many of you want to turn your backs on what made the USA 'great', the staunch belief in freedom for all.
But if they do go ahead with their burning as planned, may I suggest a nice uniform to make events more enjoyable. Maybe a nice red flag with a White circle and a black cross in the middle? Maybe they could think of a nice arm salute to finish off with?
First, our beloved First Amendment does protect our relgious beleifs but not WHERE we can practice it. The state of New York could tell them NOT to build it there but they can't tell them not to build at all. Luckily, Donald Trump has offered to buy the spot to smash the debate. In so the pastor has cancelled the Koran burning. (He had the right to do the burning but it doesn't mean he should). And because of him cancelling word is the West Boro Baptist church in Kansas will be the burning. But those assholes protest the funerals of our soilders!
But Travis, just some clarity. The KKK is NOT a Nazi branch. Don't know if you were trying to fuse them together but National Socalism is a political party where the KKK was (orginally) a group of college taught slave owners who wanted to keep their heritage alive. The basteradized racist movement after the orginal 9 is just that- racist. But still not the same. (Being an ex-skinhead I had to know the difference)

AN AMERICAN pastor has cancelled plans to burn the Koran on the anniversary of 9/11.
Terry Jones, who heads the obscure Dove World Outreach Center church based in Florida, claimed he has reached an agreement with Muslim leaders to move a planned mosque away from the Ground Zero site in New York.
But sources close to the New York imam behind the mosque say there is NO agreement to move the muslim cultural center away from the old World Trade Center site.
A source added: "There have been no discussions with this pastor."

Ah yes, the West Boro Baptist church, even we've heard of them, over here in the UK. But they kinda prove the point I'm getting at, which is you can't judge an entire religion based on the actions of a very small minority. Not all Baptist's are ignorant assholes, for instance.
I can't pretend to be as educated in the ins and outs of The US Constitution, I take a passing interest in US Politics and feel I am more knowledgeable about it than many of my friends, I can only speak from what I see to be common sense.
I personally don't agree with the uproar regarding the Mosque being built, but at the same time I can empathize with those who are outraged. But the problem with that is, that outrage is born out of fear. Logically any intelligent person knows that the vast, VAST majority of Muslims are peaceful people who have no interest in inciting religious hatred.
According to Wikipedia (I know not the most scholarly of sources, but it's all I got to work with right now) 3.4% of the Population of New York are Muslim, I'd personally like to know what they feel about the uproar, in the city they call home.
All this kind of thing does is play into the hands of the extremists, it doesn't send a message out to them. It doesn't discourage those inclined to strap bombs to themselves and blow up innocent people to think again. It's clearly more likely to help them recruit more of the same.
Much of this blame lays at the doors of the media anyway, who arguably create these 'furores' by initially reporting on them, and then the next day reporting on the increasing unrest, which they themselves have caused.
Seriously, how many people in Afghanistan, Pakistan, or anywhere in The Middle East were likely to know about an Obscure Church in Florida burning the Koran, if they hadn't been told by the worldwide press? Instantly the media attention gives it a huge profile, and you have heads of state across the world speaking out against a handful of retired people in Florida. It's like a strange Spoof Political Comedy.
And Os, I apologise for any confusion in the comment regarding uniforms, this was meant to be more flippant. The point I was making is religious intolerance and book burning are traits which are widely associated with two groups, and I'll admit I am not actually aware if the KKK burn too many books. Lets just say I meant to only compare them with Nazi's but got my symbolism confused in a stoned state, yeah?

The West Boro baptist church makes me angry
They protested Dio's funeral for crying out loud! Not to mention also protesting the funerals of many soldiers who died in Iraq and Afghanistan, and all the seemingly 'White Christian heterosexual supremecy' crap that they spout....Nothing against the baptists, just those dickwads.
as for this Qu'ran burning thing, I am glad that the pastor came to his senses and cancelled the big holy book bonfire. My understanding of what could occur is as T-Rob stated, is that if it had gone ahead (in the assumption that the WBBC doesn't go ahead with a burn-off), the extremists would have fodder to grow more resentment to the west (in particular the USA) as it insults all Muslims, of which, most are peaceful people. As is in the link posted by Poison, it seems that a majority of both Islam and Polititians are condemnig the actions.
