Champion. That’s what they call me. The champion of a wrestling organization known as Global Impact Wrestling. Twice I have been champion of this great organization. This time though, I feel like I have been somewhat of a letdown. This hasn’t been the best month of wrestling I have been through. I spent a few days in a hospital following my match at Guerrilla Warfare. My team lost a six man tag match in my first match back from the hospital. Finally, I get beat by Deathman last week because of the stupid referee.
This month has sucked. I’m currently having the worst championship reign in GIW’s short history. I haven’t done shit as champion this time. I’ve read the magazines and the internet reports saying that maybe I’m not fully healed yet from last month. Maybe he is having issues or something like that. Well, they are all wrong. I’ve never been healthier. I’ve just simply lost my touch. I can’t get wins like I used to. I’m in a regression and I don’t know if I can stop it. I’m becoming a loser.
Losing is something I never used to do much. I used to win all of my matches. In my first eleven matches, I only lost once. In my last eight matches, I’ve lost five times. I don’t know what is wrong with me. I might have to go see a doctor. Maybe the wrestlers of GIW are figuring me out. They know all of my moves. They have studied way more than I have. I might just give up.
Giving up is something I don’t like to do though. What if I do though? What if at In Your Hands, I just walk into Declan Prescott’s office and hand him my title? Here you go Mr. Prescott, I don’t want to defend my title. What if I go into the match and just let Deathman pin me? Deathman, I don’t want to wrestle. Just cover me and it will be over, you will be champ. I could also tell whoever else is in the match to beat me. Roberts, do you want to be champ? How about you Komosube? Dylan James, I know you want to be champ. All of you can have my title. I don’t want it anymore. I don’t want to be champion.
?: It’s good to see that you still talk to yourself.
Brandon: Who said that?
?: I did. I hope you remember me because I’m one of your best friends.
Brandon: Cornelius? Is that you?
Cornelius: I’m glad you still remember my name.
Brandon: How could I forget my best friend’s name? What have you been up to?
Cornelius: Not much. I’m still in college. I’m trying to become a teacher.
Brandon: Yeah, like that pays a lot of money. You should have become a wrestler like me.
Cornelius: I don’t really like talking to myself on a daily basis like you.
Brandon: Hey, I was taping an interview for GIW. I need to turn that camera off. (Turns it off.)
Cornelius: It sounded to me like you don’t want to be champion anymore. Is there a good reason for this? I thought you always wanted to be champion.
Brandon: I love being champion but it just has too many responsibilities. I don’t think I’m living up to those responsibilities. I’ve been losing nonstop these last few weeks. The people don’t want to see their champion lose. They want to see you win every week. I don’t think I can do that.
Cornelius: So you are saying that at In Your Hands you will lay down and let yourself lose the belt.
Brandon: That’s what I’m saying.
Cornelius: Who are you and what have you done to the real Brandon? The Brandon I know would never give up on a fight. You wouldn’t give up the title.
Brandon: The Brandon you know is gone. I don’t have the will to defend this title. I may just go and turn it in right now.
Cornelius: Since you are turning in the title, why don’t you take a vacation for awhile? Why don’t you go back home to your family and friends? We always hear that you are in Indiana but you never come home. What are you afraid of? I’m sure your old girlfriend will be happy to see you.
Brandon: I can’t go home. Not after what I did.
Cornelius: What you did wasn’t that bad.
Brandon: Dude, she almost died.
Cornelius: Besides that, it wasn’t that bad. Tell me what happened last summer on that faithful night.
Brandon: You really want to know. Fine. I will tell you.
(Flashback to July 2007. Brandon and his girlfriend Kyla are walking out of the movie theater.)
Brandon: I can’t believe you just made me watch Hairspray. I never want to see Travolta dressed as a fat woman ever again.
Kyla: I thought it was funny.
Brandon: Of course you would. You have a deranged since of humor.
Kyla: I’m not the one who laughs during all of the Saw movies.
Brandon: You can’t tell me that you haven’t laughed once during one of those movies.
Kyla: Can’t say I have. I always find them to be scary.
Brandon: The Saw movies? Scary? There is no way anybody finds those movies to be scary. It’s probably because you are a scared little girl who can’t handle that type of movie.
Kyla: I can too.
Brandon: Whatever. You should watch Nightmare on Elm Street already. That movie is a classic. It might even be a little scary to a first time viewer.
Kyla: I told you that I’m afraid to watch anything with Freddy in it. He creeps me out.
Brandon: Maybe I should show you Nightmare 6 which is basically a bad comedy.
Thug: Maybe I should show your girl what she really wants to see.
Brandon: What would that be?
Thug: Me, you idiot.
Brandon: Oh, I guess I should have figured that out.
Thug: Yeah, I thought you would know that. Anyways, I’m taking your girlfriend home with me.
Kyla: (Slaps the Thug) You’re not taking me anywhere.
Thug: I like a girl who has a little fight in her.
Brandon: Kyla, get out of here. I’ll handle this dumbass.
(The Thug hits Brandon with some Brass Knuckles.)
Thug: Handle that, bitch. Now, you are coming home with me.
(Kyla starts to run but the Thug catches her.)
Thug: How about a kiss for your new boyfriend?
Kyla: Never.
Thug: Either you kiss me or I throw you off this bridge we are standing next too.
Brandon: Stop! Leave her alone. Who the fuck just hits somebody with brass knuckles?
Thug: I do. How else was I going to steal your girlfriend.
Brandon: A fair fight?
Thug: I’m the bad guy. We never fight fair. It’s in my bad guy contract. Now, one more step and your girlfriend gets thrown off the bridge.
Brandon: A step forward or a step back?
Thug: Forward.
Brandon: So I can still step back.
Kyla: Brandon, stop acting like an idiot.
Thug: You see. Your girlfriend is on my side now.
Kyla: No, I’m not.
(Kyla hits him in the balls.)
Thug: You bitch.
(The Thug knocks Kyla out with the brass knuckles.)
Brandon: Who the fuck hits a girl? I’m going to kick your ass.
(Brandon and the Thug start brawling. Brandon nails a few good punches but the Thug pulls out a knife and stabs Brandon in the arm.)
Brandon: A knife? Who just stabs a guy in the arm? (Brandon pulls the knife out of his arm.) You are one evil bastard.
Thug: Now, I’m going to shoot you.
(The Thug pulls out a gun.)
Brandon: Are you sure we can’t talk about this? Hey, is that the police?
Thug: Where?
(As soon as the Thug turns around, Brandon stabs him in the side with the knife.)
Brandon: I can’t believe you fell for that. I think it’s time to finish you now.
(Brandon lines up for a Superkick. Brandon goes for it but the Thug ducks and Brandon accidentally hits Kyla who had just got back up. The kick sent Kyla over the bridge.)
Brandon: Fuck. Somebody call an ambulance. Why didn’t I buy a cell phone? This is all your fault.
(Brandon takes the Thug’s gun and shoots him in the legs.)
Brandon: You are lucky that I didn’t kill you. If she is dead though, I will finish you.
(Flashback ends.)
Brandon: I spent the whole next day at the hospital with her. She thought that guy threw her over the bridge. I didn’t have the guts to tell her that I accidentally kicked her. That guy couldn’t say anything because he tried to run away and a bus ran him over.
Cornelius: Then you left the next day and never came back.
Brandon: Before I left, I told her that I couldn’t be with her anymore and I broke up with her. I can’t go back home now.
Cornelius: You must go back home and tell her though. Please, go home.
Brandon: I have a title to defend so I can’t go home.
Cornelius: I thought you didn’t want to be champion any longer.
Brandon: I have already let Kyla down. I won’t let the fans down too. They deserve a fighting champion. They deserve me.
Cornelius: You might want to finish the taped interview then. But there is still always room for you at home.
Brandon: I’ll think about that. Don’t tell Kyla that story by the way.
Cornelius: I won’t. That’s your job.
(Cornelius leaves and Brandon turns the camera back on.)
I said I don’t want to be champion. I lied. Being the champion is the greatest thrill anybody can have. This title means everything to me. Nothing is better than walking out to the ring with this title around my waist. I don’t care if your name is Deathman and I also don’t know why a parent would name their kid that. I don’t care if you are Komosube, Dylan James, or Travis Roberts. My name is Brandon Brown and I’m the Global Heavyweight Champion.
