Oh, for fuck's sake.
I actually hadn't read this bit of news yet, I saw this post and thought you were joking. Then I saw that you're not.
If Bruce Wayne talks with a Boston accent, I will do nothing about it and probably see the movie anyway, but I will certainly be cranky about it in my seat.

First Heath Ledger dies...and now they totally annihilate the Batman character with their casting.
Meh..
Although it might be a good thing that Batman doesnt speak like hes constipated all the time (fuck you, Christian Bale).

Yes!! Chronic Bronchitis Batman... the avenger of the night!
There were rumors for a little while that the guy who plays Alcide on True Blood was up for the role. I was pretty iffy on him too. Batman's more jacked and taller than Superman??? But eh, I think I could have dealt with it to see him in the suit. Bring on the Bat nipples! (I kid, I kid).
Kidding aside, I was actually hoping for Anson Mount (Hell on Wheels) or guy that plays Thorin in the Hobbit. I could totally tell you his name if I wasn't too lazy to look it up. But I am. So nyeh.

I'm gonna go against consensus here and say I don't think it's the most terrible piece of casting ever.
And I'm not going to use the fact everyone responded the exact same way when ledger was cast as The joker, and we all know how that worked out.
I think it's a decent choice for a number of reasons. Firstly this film is designed to introduce a new Batman, but it is also a Superman film, will it be a 50/50 split, who knows? They clearly would want a named actor, what they wouldn't want is a casting that would overshadow Henry Cavill. But they also need someone with experience, and someone a little older so we can have an established batman and not got through all that Origin shit again.
We can all go back to Gigli and Daredevil to claim Affleck sucks, but that's a decade ago (Before Zack Synder even directed Dawn of the Dead), and I don't think he's to blame for the clusterfuck that was Daredevil, remember there was a time that even a semi-decent written Superhero flick was a rarity.
But if you look at recent past if you haven't seen Argo, do, it not only shows his acting skills but also the skill he has behind the camera, which is never a bad thing. And if you really want proof the man can act go back and watch 2006's 'Hollywoodland' where he plays George Reeves, ironically TV's Superman.
And finally there's the bonus that it's rumoured he might be involved in the script/screenplay, watch 'Gone Baby Gone', which he wrote the screenplay to.
'Man of Steel' was OK, it wasn't a great film but it interested me enough to be intrigued in what came next, I think the producers recognised this and that's why they decided Superman vs Batman was next, that's a guaranteed ticket seller. I felt some of the biggest weaknesses came from the fact Zack Snyder is still relatively inexperienced as a Director, MoS was only his 6th film, and one of them was an animated film about Owls. His strength has never been coherent storyline, or logic, I get the feeling the inclusion of Batfleck might have some influence in that department.
And even if you disagree with all this, is this really the worst piece of casting for Batman? Remember this is Hollywood where people are apparently repeatedly paid to make creative mistakes. It wouldn't have surprised me for them to try and pull in the Twilight fans and give it to Pattinson,
Obviously a lot of this is probably bullshit, but hell it's worth looking smug in 2 years for all the ridicule I'll probably face, no matter how small the odds.
Hey I'm the guy who thought Joss Whedon didn't have the Big Name, Big Movie experience to pull off The Avengers, I'm not afraid to be vocally wrong!
