[The scene opens in the backstage area directly after Sentinel. The ring crew are working away frantically packing away the focus of tonight’s battles. The referee’s are going through a debriefing, and watching through their errors. And the lighting crew are swinging away above like contented chimpanzees. Many of them are visibly wearing “The Real Innovator” Sean Jensen T-Shirts…
The Camera swings down and finds its target, “The Headliner” himself, Travis Roberts. He is standing, with his bag over his shoulder, looking around him with a smile that suggests it feels good to be back. He starts walking and the camera follows, Travis seems in no hurry to get back and walks down the hall, taking time out to look at each dressing room (tonight’s arena was kitted out with enough locker rooms for most stars to have their own)
The first dressing room “The Blessed One” passes, we assume, belongs to Sean Jensen, the assumption is made on the basis that 6’8” goliath Nathaniel Gregory is standing directly in front of the door. The next door is that of Global Domination, as Travis passes Cara Costello comes out of the door, not much can be heard inside, but there seems to be some excited conversation coming from within the walls. Cara scowls at Travis and starts shouting at some nearby producer.
Next Travis passes BoolZ’s dressing room, Randy is sat on a table can of Red Bull in one hand, and a blonde draped over his right arm, he’s obviously getting some TLC. Travis smiles and keeps walking. Finally before he leaves the arena he passes the dressing room of Chris Austin, who is apparently receiving “treatment for his injuries”. Austin is lying, butt naked, on a massage table, with a Red Cross nurse, also naked, bouncing up and down on top. His head is angled towards the door, Austin see’s Travis and raises his hand, Travis moves to close the door for Austin, but Austin waves him away with his hand, whilst grinning from ear to ear. There seems to be a camera in there as well. Travis stands as if considering continuing viewing, but just nods to Austin and then strides out of the Arena.
Outside the Arena eD is waiting inside Travis car. Travis gets in and they start to move…]
eD – “Sooooo…”
Travis – “eD…eD, eD, eD, eD, eD! Did you think “The Headliner” wouldn’t find out? Did you think you could pull the wool over “The Blessed Ones” eyes? They had NO Idea who the hell Travis Roberts is. What kind of half-assed company have you got me into?”
eD – “I’m sorry travis…but I…we…need the money!”
Travis – “Look at “The Blessed One” eD…”
eD – “A little difficult right now Trav, we’re on the freeway…”
Travis – “When you look at me what do you see…”
eD – “A paycheck?”
Travis (whilst raising his eyebrows) – “Careful Little Dude, this is not the time to crack jokes…”
eD – “The Most Influential Icon in Sports Entertainment this Millennia?”
Travis – “That’s right…do I look like an opener?”
eD – “What?”
Travis – “Am I known around the world, by MILLIONS of fans as Travis “The Curtain Jerker” Roberts?”
eD – “No…not that I know of anyw…”
Travis – “Well someone should tell that Cara Costello that. She may be fine on the eyes, but Travis Roberts just experienced the short sightedness of her business sense…”
eD – “She put you on first?”
Travis – “Not just first eD…it was far worse….far more heinous….much more devious than that Little Dude…she…No I can’t say it”
eD – “What? The last time I saw that look it was on the Count’s face…after…the incident with Ernie…and the cucumber…”
Travis – “She…put….ME…in a Tag Team! She partnered Travis Roberts up with some other debutant, a young dude called BoolZ. I mean who the hell has heard of BoolZ!?! And why the hell did he get to share in the limelight that was “The Blessed Ones” return? What was meant to be an epic encounter was soured…”
eD – Oh…I thought you were pissed you got beat on by like 5 different guys…”
Travis – “So you saw?”
eD – “Corporate box baby, Cara knows how to treat us agents…to be honest I missed most of it…just saw you getting your face pummelled in by a fat jap, at that point I thought I’d better wait outside so you couldn’t find me…I’m surprised you haven’t taken such an humiliation badly”
Travis – “Humiliation?...You obviously were not watching Little Dude! The only humiliation tonight was Cara Costello’s…”
eD – “She seemed pretty happy to me…She said you guys were the example…”
Travis – “Example of what? Despite all the obstacles Cara Costello put in my way…the shock of curtain jerking…thrusting a partner upon “The Blessed One”…”
eD – “And five guys wanting to beat the crap out of you…”
Travis – “”The Headliner” didn’t really notice…what “The Blessed One” noticed is the big Nazi briefly understanding the gravity of the match he was taking part in, the return of “The Blessed One”, but that clarity was only brief…for within moments it all Faded To White! And when he returned to the land of the conscious he had just had the blessing of being “The Headliners” comeback win!”
eD – “So I guess you’re gonna want to go after…Global Domination…after what they did, AFTER you won…”
Travis – “Why would “The Headliner” do that? They’ve obviously got their own reasons…they thought “The Headliner” was just some other punk they could stomp down….ignorance isn’t something “The Blessed One” seeks vengeance for. Cara will know better now, and that Nazi dude will have one hell of a concussion to tell the rest about.
Travis Roberts has been in the business long enough to know how it works. These guys wanted to establish their dominance, Cara having the power was meant to book them in a match with two new-comers, who couldn’t possibly beat the odds presented to them, and as Cara said make an example of them. The only flaw in their plan was the fact Cara has so much on her plate right now, she didn’t bother to do some research on “The Blessed One”, she didn’t reralise Travis Roberts was exactly the kind of man that could beat those odds…I’m sure those guys were fairly surprised to see one of their own book themselves in a match with an Icon such as myself. It was human error on Cara’s part, but I’m sure she’ll think much more carefully next time she books me…”
eD – “What about your partner?”
Travis – “From what I’ve seen of him he’s got potential…he’ll never be “Blessed” in the way Travis Roberts is, but that’s just something you cannot learn. Maybe he’ll learn a thing or two watching “The Headliner” in action over the next couple of weeks…if he’s really lucky he may even be graced with the opportunity to step into the ring with Travis Roberts. Only time will tell…”
eD – “So does it feel good to be back?”
Travis – “”The Headliner” ache’s in every point of his body, he was beaten on, but he picked up the win. But you know what Travis Roberts was thinking as that Large Sized Japanese Man was stepping on his head…”
eD – “It’s good to be back…”
Travis – “No…It’s good for Sports Entertainment that “The Headliner” is back…”
