Lord Hastings and Calypso Desmona, the Mistress of Pain, are in their locker room after their debut match. Hastings is packing his bag. Calypso moans softly.
Calypso: Mmmm, was it everything you hoped it would be?
Hastings stares at her a moment and then glances around, appearing a little confused.
Hastings: The match?
Calypso: I told you, didn’t I? That you and I together cannot be stopped.
Hastings: Indeed.
Hastings sits on the bench, lost in thought for a few moments.
Hastings: Rock “Devonte” Hard. All he was, was all he is. The first. The answer to a trivia question one day when somebody asks, “Who did Lord Hastings defeat in his first match in Global Impact Wrestling? For Rock Hard, it was a stone cold defeat. Because there isn’t a person in this federation, nay, not a person alive today, that can outwit me, overwhelm me, overcome me. On Sentinel, I showed the world, showed all of GIW, why I am called the Lord of Pain. It turns out, Devonte’s skull isn’t, shall we say, rock hard after all? Not after I crushed it with a steel chair. Now the question is, who is next?
Calypso: Levi Witham.
Hastings gives her an annoyed look, his flow disrupted momentarily.
Hastings: Yes, thank you.
Calypso: I can prepare a special tonic for this, one that will grant you the strength of a thousand lost souls, and enable you to-
Hastings stands and puts a single finger to her lips, and she quiets, looking a little surprised. Hastings turns his back to her and leans his hands on his locker.
Hastings: Witham is naught more than a ball of unchecked rage and fury. It blinds him. You don’t win in this industry with blind age. You need a more clever approach when you want to take the next step. Witham is going to yell and scream about how he is going to break me, snap my neck, break my bones, show me no mercy. Ultimately, it is full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. Yet those words of blind fury, they describe the inevitability of his own fate. They tell us the story of his destiny’s call. I will teach Levi Witham the meaning of his words. I will show him the definition of pain, teach him what it means to suffer. Where he has rage, I have design. Where he has fury, I have a plan. When he cries out in pain, it is because he is trapped by the hands of fate.
Calypso: You know, if you took a portion of that time and energy you always spend monologueing and dedicated it to me, I’d rock your world.
Hastings rolls his eyes and picks up his bag.
Hastings: Let’s go.
They walk off as the scene fades to black.
