Lord Hastings stares out a window at the rain outside, his arms crossed behind his back. Calypso enters with a smile on her face, but it fades when she spots him.
Hastings: Have I taught you nothing?
Calypso: What's wrong?
Hastings: What's wrong, indeed.
He turns and looks at her.
Hastings: In three shorts weeks, you and I are destined for championship gold. We are meant to take our rightful place in the halls of legends. And you stand arm in arm with the person who should be the target in your sights. You ally yourself with one who should be your nemesis, who is the obstacle in your way. Have you learned nothing?
Calypso: I've learned not to lay all my cards on the table all at once.
Hastings: And I have?
Calypso: I don't know. Chris Austin looks like he countered inevitability pretty well, didn't he?
Hastings laughs and turns back to the window.
Hastings: As you said, my dear...we don't lay all our cards on the table all at once.
The are both silent for a few moments, and a loud beeping is heard. Hastings takes out his cell phone and flips it open.
Hastings: Well, isn't that interesting.
Calypso walks over and reads the text over his shoulder. She looks up at him.
Calypso: Now what?
Hastings: Like I said, Calypso. We don't lay all our cards on the table all at once. Now we wait, and let our ace in the hole play itself.
Calypso: And Toxic Intent?
Hastings: Chris Austin will learn that inevitability, no matter how you try to avoid it, it means exactly that.
Lightning flashes outside the window, and thunder is heard as we fade out.
