Annie Fugate is sleeping peacefully in the early morning hours. She stirs a bit as an alarm clock starts going off.
{Annie Fugate}
Turn the damn alarm off Liz. LIZ!!
She reaches over and smacks the alarm clock on the table. She looks around confused. This isn’t the hotel room. This room is full of Dallas Cowboys gear, even the sheets in the bed she is in. She climbs out of bed to find herself in Cowboy pajama pants and a white shirt. She looks around the room but Elizabeth isn’t anywhere to be seen.
{Annie Fugate}
What the hell is going on here? This looks almost like my old bedroom back home just not as dark.
She walks up to the mirror and looks at herself. She immediately realizes that she doesn’t seem to be as built as she should be. She isn’t fat or anything just seems to be missing the muscle. She walks out of the room and down the steps, realizing she is in her childhood home. But how did she get here? She walks into the living room and freezes in place. Her father is sitting in a recliner chair, reading the newspaper. He has some grey hair but other than that, he looks very healthy. Good for his age...and for a dead guy. Annie just gawks at him as he glances at her over his newspaper.
{James Fugate}
Good morning sweetheart. Did you sleep well?
Annie doesn’t answer. The last time she saw her dad was the morning of his fortieth birthday almost ten years ago. When he went out to work on the drilling rig the day of his heart attack. She just continues to stare at him, not sure what she is seeing.
{James Fugate}
What’s the matter? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.
{Annie Fugate}
You could say that. You’re supposed to be dead.
{James Fugate}
You are worse than my doctor. Get your blood pressure under control James or you won’t last long. I think I look pretty good for a man in his mid fifties, don’t you.
He stands up and actually flexes a little. He is a bit heavy but not obese or anything. He takes a step toward her but she takes a step back, keeping a shocked look on her face.
{Annie Fugate}
No. You went to work on a drilling rig and had a heart attack on your fortieth birthday. I went to your funeral.
She takes another step back. He gives her a puzzled look before laughing and shaking his head.
{James Fugate}
Silly girl you know that I’m a lawyer. In fact I’m due in court here in about two hours. You must have had a heck of a nightmare. Why don’t you go get a cup of coffee and we can talk about it. Would you mind refilling me while you’re at it?
He picks up the number one dad coffee cup and hands it to her. She reluctantly takes it, still keeping her eyes on him. She walks away from him toward the kitchen, unable to wrap her mind around this, It has to be a dream. But it is the most realistic dream she has ever had. She walks into the kitchen and drops the coffee cup, causing it to shatter on the floor. And older lady with jet black hair is standing over the stove, cooking bacon. She jumps at the sound of the cup breaking, turning to face her.
{Lily Fugate}
Annie! That was your father’s favorite cup. What’s the matter?
{Annie Fugate}
M….m…..mo..mom?
{Lily Fugate}
Yes Annie, for your entire life. Get the broom out of the closet and sweep that up for me. I’ll get James another cup of coffee.
This is beyond impossible. Annie shakes her head..
{Annie Fugate}
You died giving birth to me.
{Lily Fugate}
Yeah for about three minutes. They were able to finally bring me back.
{Annie Fugate}
I don’t understand. Where is Jessica?
{Lily Fugate}
Who is Jessica?.
{Annie Fugate}
My half sister.
{James Fugate}
You are an only child Annie. After the scare we had with you, we decided it was best not to have any more kids. I had a vasectomy a few weeks after you were born. Are you okay?
Annie jumps as James had entered the room behind her. She walks over and sits down at the table and puts her head in her hands. This is too much for her. James frowns down at his broken cup but seems more worried about Annie. He walks over and gets the broom and dustpan, cleaning up the cup. Lily starts placing the bacon on a plate as she begins cooking eggs. Annie finally shakes her hands. James puts the broom away and sits down across from Annie at the table
{Annie Fugate}
Nothing is right. What about Elizabeth. I need something familiar to me.
{James Fugate}
I’m sorry but I don’t know an Elizabeth. Is she someone you work with?
{Annie Fugate}
I’m her manager in the United Global Wrestling Coalition. I myself am a champion
{James Fugate}
Wrestling? When did you start wrestling? You are the head psychiatrist at the Big Spring State Hospital. What does your husband think about all of this.
Annie actually chuckles. She looks up at her dad.
{Annie Fugate}
I’m sorry, my what??
James reaches into his pocket and pulls out his wallet. He slides forward a picture of her and a man with messy black hair. Between them is a young girl who looks to be about three, sharing the same black hair as Annie. Annie’s mouth drops.
{Annie Fugate}
A husband and a daughter?
{James Fugate}
Jennifer Joyce Jackson. Named after my mom and your husband Stanley’s mom. They should be here in a little while to pick you up. Have some breakfast Annie, maybe it will help you feel better.
{Annie Fugate}
Do I have a laptop?
Lily is making the toast now as James points over to a counter where a laptop is charging. Annie grabs it and opens it up, smiling as the same picture her dad showed her is her screen saver. She immediately googles her name but nothing comes up. She goes to the old High Stakes Wrestling site. She is no where on there. Maya won the Women’s title for the first time and was set to defend against Auburn at Winter Survival. She even finds the Extreme Wrestling Entertainment site to find neither her or Jessica are anywhere in the history. Just to be sure, she pulls up the UGWC site. The card for Chill has neither her or her opponent Venus on it. There is also no sign of Elizabeth either. She googles Elizabeth Blackwell but the only thing that comes up is a story from her in high school. She closes the laptop as Lily slides a plate of scrambled eggs, bacon and toast in front of her. She takes a bite of the eggs and can’t help but to smile.
{Annie Fugate}
Oh my God. These are like the best eggs I have ever eaten.
{Lily Fugate}
You say that every time Annie. I’m glad you like it.
Annie eats her food happily, listening to her mother and father exchange stories about their days yesterday. She smiles as her dad cleans the table, stealing a kiss or two. She isn’t sure what’s going on but she could handle this new life. She hears the front door opens and hears a young girls voice call out mommy. Annie stands up and heads for the living room when suddenly she is smacked hard in the side of her face. It causes her to open her eyes to the dark hotel room. She glances beside her to see Elizabeth fast asleep, her hand on Annie’s face. Annie turns to her and pushes her hard off the bed. Elizabeth cries out as she hits the floor, standing up and looking hurt at Annie.
{Elizabeth Blackwell}
What did you do that for?
{Annie Fugate}
You woke me up from a really good dream.
{Elizabeth Blackwell}
You know I toss and turn in my sleep. I said we should have got them to bring us a cot but you said “No we can share a bed together. We are grown women, it’s not weird.
{Annie Fugate}
Well if I knew I’d be sleeping next to an octopus.
{Elizabeth Blackwell}
Are you okay? You seem more cranky than normal when you are woken up early. Want to talk about it?
{Annie Fugate}
Just go back to sleep.
Elizabeth reluctantly climbs back into bed, staying well on her side. Annie grabs her phone from the table and quickly goes through her pictures. There is a few of Elizabeth and her and even one or two of her half sister Jessica. But nothing of her mom or dad. Or her husband and daughter from her dream. Even now the picture in her mind is fading. She puts the phone down and lays back in bed. So her parents are still dead and her sister hasn’t talked to her in months. Well at least she still has her health. And a good friend in Elizabeth. Not that she’d ever tell her that. Elizabeth rolls over and puts her arm over Annie, snuggling up next to her. Annie rolls her eyes and shakes her head. She closes her eyes herself, hoping to get back to that wonderful dream.
SCENE 2
The new scene opens on a large diagram of the solar system. All nine planets, yes nine Pluto is still a planet screw the people who want to change that, are diagrammed in large form. One such is the moon close to Earth. It breaks free of the hanging planets and falls down to the ground. It opens and Annie Fugate steps out, wearing a long white dress and the High Stakes Wrestling Women’s title around her waist. She walks over to Venus and stands under it, glancing up at it.
{Annie Fugate}
Venus is a unique planet in our solar system. Did you know it doesn’t have a moon? It is really hot and full of gases. It also rotates backwards. The sun rises in the west and sets in the east. I can understand why my opponent for Chill is called Venus. She has all the same characteristics. Backwards, big and full of gas. And the best part is, she has no idea what she is up against. Because I’m sure she is judging me based on Elizabeth. A women who might not have won yet here in UGWC but she hasn’t really lost either. She was made to bleed first by an accident and then tossed out of a battle royal. She hasn’t even begun to show her potential. And her potential is a shadow compared to me.
Annie raises her arms to the side and actually floats up so she can sit on top of the model of Venus.
{Annie Fugate}
Allow me to introduce myself to you Venus. My name is Annie Fugate. Known by Midnight. Master of the Stroke of Midnight and the Cloak of Darkness. The first, only and greatest HSW women's champion ever. A multi time champion is the eWe. I’ve been in this business for about seven years now. I am a master of what I do. But I know, you plan to judge me by my success in the Massive Melee last week. Silly planet.
Annie shakes her head as she starts to slowly swing back and forth on Venus..
{Annie Fugate}
I entered third into the match. And I did good for a few minutes until Angelica Vaughn tossed me out. But do you think I cared about that little match? I had two goals in that match. Help Liz and make sure to throw Mizore out on her head. Oh and the little bunny if I saw her. I didn’t last long enough for either of those. But I don’t care. Just like I don’t care about you Venus. You think I care if I beat you or not. Do you think you are going to be like a stepping stone or something to me. Please you are just a warm up. I’m a legend. I’m a great. Even if you somehow manage to best me, we both know you’ll still be a failure and a loser to me. I’m just getting into the ring on Chill for the fun of it. Just so I can hurt someone again. It’s time for Venus to fall.
She finally swings hard enough to cause the planets to start crashing into each other. She floats down to the ground and walks forward as the solar system starts crashing behind her..
{Annie Fugate}
I bring destruction wherever I go Venus. I was the reason Auburn Cox tucked her tail and ran from HSW. I’m the reason Maya faked her little eye injury to try and get out of facing me. And I’ll be the reason you lose your debut match Venus. I don’t care what little group you are a part of. I don’t care who your friends are. At the end of the night, you will succumb to the darkness..
She turns around and faces her destruction. She walks over to the moon and climbs back inside. It closes around her and raises back in the sky, casting a glow on the remains of the solar system. This is how the scene fades away.
{Annie Fugate}
Turn the damn alarm off Liz. LIZ!!
