Disclaimer: For anyone who hasn’t seen Iron Man, plot details are ahead. I don’t consider these “spoilers” as that would imply the movie is somewhat decent and wasn't ruined at time of creation. Nonetheless, continue at your own risk.
How was Iron Man anything like Batman Begins? They're utterly different characters, completely different plots with entirely different feels to them. The second let Tony Stark (and most importantly Robert Downey Jnr's rendition of him) shine. The guys perfect for the role.
Lolwut? A rich guy starts out in a city but leaves it and, during this experience, learns about himself and the world, returns back to the city he started out in, decides he’s going to clean it up by wearing a costume (or suit, whatever), only to discover the true threat was always from someone he was calling an ally all along. You can’t see any similarities there? Lawlz. Though you're right about having different feels. Watching Begins actually felt worthwhile. But as I said, that wasnt even Iron Man's biggest failure, which is rather sad.
And I don’t recall saying anything bad about Downey Jr. Dude is the only reason those movies were even watchable. He dragged them up from "complete waste of time" to "mostly waste of time".
Also, I wonder what Roberts' face is like, reading the spam filling this thread? ;D
20/10/2010 The day open mindedness returned to UGWC. Lest we forget.

That's a real stretch P. I mean, like, fuck.
Bruce Wayne watched his parents killed, chicken shitted out of killing the guy who killed them years later, then again chicken shits out of killing a crime boss before setting out on a mission of self discovery and learning how to protect the city his parents built like he couldn't protect them.
Stark helps build Stark Industries, lives it up as a care free douche bag, gets set up by a trusted friend, sees first hand what his product is doing after being kidnapped, escapes certain death, and then dragged into a conflict with said one time trusted friend after disposing of his product that the terrorists had.
Apart from rich guy in a suit the two arn't even really close. I mean there's only so many ways you can tell an origins story.
1- life before tragic event 2- tragic event 3- ? 4- profit
Not that I'm saying either movie was really all that good or lived up to any, absolutely any, of there respective hype.
And I want to get excited about Avengers, I do. But being as I haven't seen Hulk, Captain America, or Thor it's kinda difficult to give two shits about it. Especially considering the toys for Hulk, Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man blew such massive monkey balls. Not as bad as Green Lantern, but still. The MU molds are just shitty and tiny. Which is weird because I really loved my 3 3/4" GI Joes growing up, but they just had a bit more bulk or something.
Anyway I digress. Scarlet Johanson (SP? like I give a fuck) looks much better in clothes, and makes a damn fine Black Widow.
Oh yeah, and entering during a commercial break? What hell man?!? UGWC's on the internet. The stream should have had to rebuffer or everyone gets booted and when they relog Ty's in the ring or something. Lame.
I'd also like to keep TRob's recaps as a regular addition to the show.

None of that contradicts anything I said.

You forgot the fact both leave their environment, undergo change, return in a suit. Both final battles end with someone they once called a friend. You can nitpick on the details as much as you like, the overall structures and settings are almost exactly the same.

I’m not even gonna engage with that, as the fact you felt the need to include it in your post actually confirms my argument. Not that I needed it confirmed, but thanks all the same.

And again, P you completely miss the point that's lost somewhere out past your own shortsightedness marred by a simply dumbfounding refusal to look past any but the most basic principles.
1-Life before 2- event 3- ? 4- Profit
1- Rocky collects for a loan shark 2- Apollo picks Rocky at random 3- Rocky courts Adrian, beats up beef, and chases chickens 4- profit
1- Luke's a moisture farmer 2- Luke gets a pair of droids, and the Empire kill his Aunt and Uncle 3- Luke goes with Obi-Wan to rescue the Princess and learn the Force 4- Profit
1- Both leads are no bodies 2- Both leads were chosen by outside influence 3- Both leads train for a showdown 4- profit
It doesn't make Rocky and Star Wars the same movie.
Same as neither was Gladiator
1- Roman General 2- Emperor's son seizes throne 3- Fights from slave to gladiator 4- profit
How about
1- Stella's old 2- Stella takes a vacation 3- Stella gets her groove back 4- profit
I mean come on. Bruce Wayne, Tony Stark, and Stella were all people. They all went somewhere. Then they all found something in them they didn't know was there.
Of course Stella, Maximus, Luke, and Rocky didn't put on a costume so obviously their movies are vastly different.

The final fight goes from when Whiplash's drones first go apeshit to when Iron Man and War Machine finish him off. That's a pretty long sequence.
I count a final fight as hen main badguy and main goodguy square off for the last time, you cant pack that shit out with drones and lackeys and such has to be the main characters going at it and Ironman 2 badguy is the most easily defeated badguy in action movie history.
I don't want to insult DP's taste in movies without knowing what movies he is into. So, DP, if the newer Batman films and the Avenger series are so terrible, what kind of movies do you fancy?
If you were bashing the old Captain America, SyFy's version of Thor, or any Marvel film made in the 80's, I would understand. I'm not saying that the Avenger series if setting a new mold in films but they're pretty good movies. BoolZ has a good point in saying that most movies follow the same basic formula so you're going to find similarities in them. Ranging from kid movies to R-rated flicks. If you break it down and grasp far enough, all movies will seem common.
Also, I wonder what Roberts' face is like, reading the spam filling this thread? ;D
It honestly doesn't bother me a lot, because it doesn't surprise me that people have more to say about a bunch of films they have no control or way of affecting than they do about show's that can be directly impacted by them. I guess I've become desensitised by months of poor feedz for shows.
Not that I am suggesting this was a great show, but I do feel Rudo and JK pulled out two very good matches, and Zeke saved our asses once again by pulling a quicky out which meant the show got posted yesterday and not today.
I'd also like to keep TRob's recaps as a regular addition to the show.
You may get your wish, especially if the amount of volunteers for this week's show remains as it is. Believe me I'd love nothing more than to NEVER have to write a 'proper' match for Synergy ever again, but in general I don't think it's fair on competitors that have posted full RP's, not just 'recapped' RP's.

Is it unfair though? I mean really, does anyone feel slighted if their match is recapped? I know I wouldn't.
Hell I'll go one further. I've only ever enjoyed writing one match, and rarely enjoy reading play by play for matches. It's not that I don't think they're well written, or I don't appreciate the dedication, work, and willingness to slog it out because I do. It's just not as enjoyable to read as something with a bit more personality
Have to agree with Boolz here. I wouldn't feel slighted by a recapped Synergy, either fully recapped, or with only the main event not-recapped. Honestly, no matter the talent of the writer, the week in week out play by play tends to feel like drudge. I hope no one takes offense to that, of course most of our writers are quite capable of writing exciting matches, but I am sure I'm not the only one to scroll through the mass of it and look for highlights (not just the outcome, that's just rude.)
For me, Synergy is about the segments half the time, anyway.

As for your gripe, legitimate as it was, I feel feedz has dropped off lately as a whole... on the rp forum as well. It's probably just that time of year. I know it is for me. I had that idea of doing the big group feedz a while back, but hell, I haven't even really had time to read everyone's stuff lately.
When I get moved to my new restaurant, I should have a set schedule though, and that will mean being able to manage my time somewhat better.

I disagree with the idea of most of the matches being recapped if it can be helped. As a writer, I find it much easier to write up in dialogue rather than paragraphs of description, namely because whenever I reread over them before sending it through, it just seems a little lacking. However, I do appreciate the fact that there are just times where it is impossible to write up in full dialogue, such as when there are five or so matches to write and only so much time to write them.
This kinda leads into Brandon's point about how we're coming into that point in the year where the feedback rate drops, as does volunteerism to take on a few extra bits of writing, so I wouldn't mind if a few more recaps popped up, so long as Horizons inst heavy on 'em
As you can tell from my match writing style, I do the same as Ichy. But I tend to find my matches lacking. I've always hated writing matches but if I'm free and writers are needed, I'll step up.
